The old adage, "never discuss religion and politics", is roundly rejected in this incisive exploration of presidential history and religious faith. This newly updated 2016 edition of The Presidents & Their Faith is a fascinating and informative look at how all US presidents exercised their personal faith, exerted presidential power, and led a religiously diverse nation. Has there ever been a stranger prayer than Truman's, offered upon America's successful development of the atom bomb: "We pray that he may guide us to use it in his ways and for his purposes"? At the nation's founding, Northeast Presbyterians demanded explicit mention of Jesus in the Constitution. George Washington refuted them, saying that religious piety "was a matter best left between an individual and his god; religious instruction was the responsibility of religious societies, not the civil state." What drove Washington to make that argument, and what if he had lost? Who wouldn't feel like the exasperated FDR when he said, "I can do almost everything in the 'Goldfish Bowl' of the President's life, but I'll be hanged if I can say my prayers in it. It bothers me to feel like something in the zoo being looked at by all the tourists in Washington when I go to church...No privacy in that kind of going to church, and by the time I have gotten into that pew and settled down with everybody looking at me, I don't feel like saying my prayers at all." But even more importantly, what's real, what's a show, and why does it matter when it comes to faith and politics? These questions and more are unpacked and examined, leading to a whole new understanding of how religion and politics interfaced through America's history, and how they will play out in our future. ungekürzt. Yet it may be roundly asserted that human ingenuity cannot concoct a cipher which human ingenuity cannot resolve. (Edgar Allan Poe, "A Few Words on Secret Writing", 1841) For as long as language and communication have existed, humans have invented ways to mask their messages from prying eyes. Military and diplomatic officials often devise secret codes to transmit sensitive data and confidential information to approved parties. This practice has become so commonplace in recent years that entire sciences, hobbies, and a full-fledged profession, called cryptography, have been established to decipher these cryptic texts. Needless to say, once revolutionary methods of cryptography, though historic, are now considered archaic. Their simplistic secrets have been disclosed to the general public and even incorporated into children's toys. With the bulk of modern civilization so dependent on the virtual world, secret codes have evolved to a whole new level, most notably through data encryption. Data encryption, which aims to conceal classified electronic information through the use of complex ciphers and algorithms, was initially used for governmental and military purposes, but it now acts as the primary medium of security that most online platforms (as of January 2017) provide for their users. As intricate and inextricable as data encryption might seem to people today, a growing number of brilliant, but devious, minds continue to successfully find ways to bypass supposedly state of the art encryption software. With such incisive minds constantly at work, one could be forgiven for assuming there are no ciphers left unsolved. On the contrary, a diverse array of both ancient and modern cryptographic challenges, which have stumped even the most seasoned code crackers of today, exist, and may exist for generations to come. Among the most famous of these memorandums is a 600-year-old document that continues to mystify: the Voynich Manuscript. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Bill Hare. In an age of immediacy the idea of waiting sounds are hopelessly outdated. But that said, there is something to be said about anticipation. Such is the case with Kenyatta's new album. Yes, after an extended hiatus the sexy ambassador of reggae/soul has returned with a brand new look and a fresh yet deliciously vintage sound. He might have been out of the spotlight, but Kenyatta along with long time collaborator and friend Dwight Yearwood, had begun crafting Secret Lovers Garden (SLG) over a year ago. The album is the first installment of a trilogy of compilations to follow. By late 2010, the process of polishing and shaping the album was fully on. Daniel "Kenyatta Fire" Terrelonge was born in Kingston, Jamaica and his love for music started in the household. Whatever everyone else listened to, he did as well. In his mid teens, he began to write and it easily transitioned into singing. Kenyatta acquired his B.S.C.E. in Civil Structural Engineering but this wasn't the end for him. He was determined to make an impact with his talent so singing at local lounges cemented his musical mission in life and prepared him for his greatest works ever. It wasn't long after that he began honing his talents whilst attracting major industry figures and influences into his project. A long awaited but destined outcome. To Kenyatta, music is as natural as breathing. When he adds his voice to a song, it is sure to be a bold and purposeful hit. His vocals are smooth, powerful and sultry. Secret Lovers Garden gives you diversity with the tracks touching various genres ranging from pop to reggae. The album can be basically considered as a 'melting pot' of genres - mixed all together yet the finish product ends up as a timeless piece of art work. Soulful. Sensual. Crisp. Sweet. Creative. These are five words that can be used to describe SLG. Each of the tracks will provide the listener with a unique and refreshing listening experience. Everything that Kenyatta gives you is genuine. His music is full of melodies, harmonies, ballads with such smooth hooks, metaphors and similes. What a fusion of sound. He is an incredible artist with incredible talent. Composed of eleven indelible songs Secret Lovers Garden finds Kenyatta exploring life with veracity and purpose. Opening with a thumping house arrangement, the first single, "A Little Dance," is nostalgic, ("bring your body tonight") and yet undeniably passionate. "It's about dancing the night away" Kenyatta describes. Produced by Alex Barnwell this song will get your heart and feet racing instantaneously. "Equally personal is "Is There a Way." Pushed along by a sturdy and incessant piano, Kenyatta, shifting from those oh so recognizable smooth falsettos and baritones, rides the melody like a man both possessed by and resigned to his feelings. "It's kind of about giving you all to the one you love yet the affections are not recognized and intercepted. What to do to get through to you to tell you that I love you. Produced by the infamous Jon FX. Another one of the many diamond talents influencing the album. Kenyatta has carefully orchestrated a media blitz with the release of the album. Critics roundly praised the album not only for it's musical Polish, but also for it's lyric maturity. Peppered by a funked up reggae, soul, house and popular music plus his Jamaican accent. It's very sexy stuff.
