Poor Weather Club was a Minneapolis industrial post-punk formed by Cody Bourdot, Christian Petty, and Matt Lily in 2008. Escondido was their only release before breaking up in 2010. For related martial, see The Blackthorns s/t 2006 CD also for sale on CDbaby. Poor Weather Club: Escondido (City Pages CD Review) By Loren Green Wednesday, May 5 2010 'Folk music is known for it's historic ties, it's constancy in changing times, and it's sense of time and place. Poor Weather Club is a three-piece hell-bent on changing this. Their gothic Americana draws a clear historic influence, but the addition of a drum machine and their ambivalence toward traditional song structures give them an eerie and ambient twist. 'Malpais' starts the record with a minute of spooky bass and repetitive drum before singer Christian Thaddeus Petty's wavering and haunting vocals begin. While Petty's voice is distinct and adds dramatic flair, it's the steady progressions from bassist Cody Bourdot that set the tone and drive their melodies forward throughout Escondido. Both Petty and Bourdot previously played in the Blackthorns, and Poor Weather Club share many similarities with their previous band. The biggest difference, however, is the electronic soundscape that, on paper, appears blasphemous to the type of music being played. Instead, Party Central's beats (ex-Woodcat) add a dreamy quality, as they are mixed so smoothly that the CD sounds like live instrumentation instead of a cold, heartless computer. The album, with it's sun-peeking-through-the-clouds cover, explores steady yet vulnerable emotion exemplified by the ebbs and flows of a daylong rainstorm. There are moments of clashing, loud explosions, and flickers of sunlight through the clouds, but mostly the band is content to bask in a calm, if troubled, state of minor keys. Every so often the songs reach an upbeat pinnacle, as in 'Dove Song' or 'Cinder,' which utilizes more energetic beats and more dramatic vocals. After the louder, more dynamic aforementioned song, the band turns back to 'It's Going to Be Alright,' which, fittingly, draws it's lyrical imagery from a rising storm. Instead of focusing on pop brevity and catchiness, the songs range from two to eleven minutes of methodical exploration, beginning with familiar musical tropes and turning them into something more contemporary and new.' -------------------- Show review by Devil's Basement, 10/30/09 'Now that we know we can be easily wiped out...let's mope for a moment. S.A.D. anyone? That stands for 'Seasonal Affective Disorder,' and if you're one of the losers that needs something to constantly be wrong with you so you can beg for attention then I hope the sun never shines in your world again. Ever. Pull the trigger. On that note, the boys in Poor Weather Club got together to see if they could remind us what it sounds like when thunderstorms and rainclouds sound more like a symphony than any sort of impending demise. Drum machines are pretty cool little devices if you know enough to make them do stuff...but they turn out to be violently AWESOME when you couple them with a guy like Matt Lily of PWC. I don't think anyone in the room expected to hear the sounds he made come out of that table of electronics. Simply magnificent, I tell you. Throw in the driving guitars and howling, haunting vocals of Christian Thaddeus Petty alongside a lock-step but spacious bass-captain named Cody Bourdot and you've got the innovation in music that Minneapolis should be known for on a National scale. Fuck the scenesters, fuck the hipsters, this is what emotion in music truly is. This is what I want to see when I get out to a show. Make me believe you when you sing. Make me believe you mean it. The Poor Weather Club made a believer out of me. I believe that when they step up in the club, they make it rain.'

Edwige Perfetti Biography Edwige Perfetti was admitted at the age of nine to l'Ecole de la Maîtrise de la R.T.F. (Paris). During the next ten years, she received a comprehensive education in music (solfège, harmony, music history, singing, etc.) to which was added each evening, concerts, and recordings with famous soloists, conductors, and orchestras. Also, she made numerous trips in France, and to Bulgaria, Israel, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Italy... From age 16 to 19, she discovered the world of "Show-Biz" with the group, the Djinns, organized for radio and sponsored by Gilbert Becaud. With that ensemble, she participated in many more recordings, together with long summer tours (35 cities each month). At age 19, her voice having gained power and richness, Edwige Perfetti chose to leave the Djinns in order to audition at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, where she was admitted immediately. While there, she was awarded the Prix de Chant, Art Lyrique, Opérette, the Médaille de solfège, and participated in a study tour to East Germany with the C.N.S.M. of Paris. She maintained an interest in contemporary music, and the students in the composition classes of Olivier Messiaen, J. Rivier, and Tony Aubin regularly asked her to perform their compositions for their final examinations at the end of the year. Additional honors gained: 1er Prix at the Concours International de la Mélodie Française, in Paris. Médaille de Bronze at the Concours International de Chant (section for young soloists) organized in Paris by la Guilde du Chant. Diplôme at the Concours International de Chant de Toulouse (only French finalist) Parallel to her studies at C.N.S.M., Edwige Perfetti made her debut at the Théâtre de l'Odeon in Paris in la Compagnie Jean-Louis Barrault-Madeleine Renault. She was a "lady's maid" in La Vie Parisienne (Offenbach) during all the season '65-'66. Noted by the orchestra conductor, André Girard, she was engaged the following season at the Théâtre Sarah-Bernhardt in Paris for a premier role in Marat-Sade (about the Marquis de Sade), a musical by Jean Prodromides. Edwige Perfetti had the only top feminine role sung with actors Jean Servais, Michel Vitold, Pierre Vernier, Françoise Brion... During that same season, when she was on stage one out of every two nights and also studying at C.N.S.M., she took the television role of Gertrude in Louise (G. Charpentier), and performed Le Duo de la Jaloisie from the Three-Penney Opera (Kurt Weil). Since that time, Edwige Perfetti has been heard on the international stage (theater, concerts, recitals) in a vast classic and contemporary repertoire. When she joined l'Opéra de Paris as an Artiste du Choeur (1974-1981), Rolf Lieberman noted her voice during her entrance audition. Because of that, he gave her two appearances at l'Opéra de Paris in the role of Ortlinde in Die Walkyrie (Wagner), and, at La Palais des Congrès, la Voix Céleste, in La Damnation de Faust (Berlioz). Also, she sang this role in Washington's Kennedy Center during a tour on the U.S. with the choir and orchestra of l'Opéra de Paris under the direction of Seiji Ozawa. In July, 2003, Edwige Perfetti was invited by the American Band College, Ashland, Oregon (Max McKee, Director) to perform "ABC Overture," composed and directed by Claude Pichaureau. Since 1987, in the framework of her pedagogical activities, Edwige Perfetti has directed numerous performances with her students, satisfying her taste for staging and dance, in short, the concept and complete realization of each performance. Loving, above all, to exploit to the maximum all vocal, musical, and theatrical possibilities, Edwige Perfetti has defined herself as an atypical artist, rich in numerous professional experiences, who wishes to continue to be of service to the public. In that spirit, and to honor her father and Corsica, the land of her birth, she has made an album of Corsican melodies, Meludiosu Corsica, available from CDbaby, iTunes, etc. (Other recording information from Corellia, Erato, EMI...) CDs précédents : Ten Poems of Hope 2002, Songs From the Bottom of the Wishing Well 2004, A Separate Peace 2007, Couleurs Vivantes 2007, Si Seulement... 2008, One Drop of Water 2008, J'y étais 2009 Culturejazz 2010 Yves Dorison Tuesday Warren est un saxophoniste émérite, on l'entend dès la première note. From The Bottom Of The Wishing Well. Tuesday a donné un programme alternant des originaux et des standards (« The Night Has A Thousand Eyes », « Speak Low », « Mood Indigo », « But Not For Me », « Night And Day », etc.)

We came into Squid Hell recording studio and the engineer said there was a death-cry early in the morning. His cat had died. We got to work. Four days, four songs - recorded, mixed, and mastered. On the fourth day, when the last notes were mixed, John, who is the brilliant fix-it-man and microphone inventor, came into the control room and started to cry. His cat had just passed. It is fitting that Eric Schmider chose to change the name of the band from Mollycoddle, (which you will find here on CDbaby) to The One Smith. It must mean something that the EP session was book-ended by the deaths of two very cool cats. The music is taking a new route with simple structures and horns while still focusing on melodies and simple lyrics about how we all work in the world, while we are here at least. If you want songs about what happens next, I have some friends on CDbaby that write songs about death. The tunes on this EP are a taste of what's to come. We have horns, a slightly melancholic vocal timbre boosted with some harmony, and a solid band. The drums sit back ever so small giving even the rootsy tune, Watering the Plants, a touch of groove that comes from as drummer who used to only play funk. Like most of what you find here, this is a DIY project. Stay tuned for the complete record due out in the summer of 2010. The tunes will be more expansive and diverse. Perhaps a touch of Pink Floyd mixed with some Kings of Convenience. Who knows.

At 5 years old Vicki held her first guitar and it became a permanent fixture in her life. The musical genes were passed by a banjo picking Great Grandfather and a big band drummer Grandfather that influenced the love of all types of music to her ears. From high school age in a little rural community in Virginia called Snow Creek located in-between Martinsville and Roanoke, Vicki performed with gospel and rock groups and then continued her musical career while attending Elon University in North Carolina. She performed with jazz, disco, and country & western bands. Her solo performances with her own original songs won her several Elon University talent shows and she played in coffee houses and restaurants through out North Carolina. With the band Carolina Cowboys, she performed in front of artists James Taylor, Karla Bonoff, George Jones, Conway Twitty and EmmyLou Harris to mention a few. One of the highlights of her career was sitting down and talking to the legendary EmmyLou Harris while playing at an annual Doc Watson Festival in Wilksboro, NC. In 1998 a diagnosis of bladder cancer made Vicki realize it was time to start the music project she had always wanted to do. 'I knew my first love of music and playing my original songs was going to have to be taken more seriously now or never and to quit putting off my dream of getting my songs heard.' Vicki started playing solo acts again in 1999 after many years of being out of the public eye. Her goal was to promote her original music where it could be heard and promote a following and then to put her original songs on a CD and promote that. Her dreams kept getting put on the back burner with her battles of the reoccurring cancer. Finally the dream started in February 2003 with the help of Producer/Engineer Karen Kane at Audio Genesis Studio in Wilmington, NC where Vicki now resides. The dream became a reality upon the completion in July 2003. The production and hard work of the CD 'Don't Forget To Breathe' was finished. Two guest performers and talented musicians played on Vicki's CD. Kit Holmes of Austin Texas played keyboards on 10 of the 11 songs and the last song on the CD 'Cup O' Joe', which is a blue grass song in memory of the blue grass roots she came from, had a guest appearance by Louisa Branscomb of Atlanta Georgia playing the banjo. Part of the proceeds of the CD's sales will be donated to The American Cancer. Vicki is traveling and playing in venues through out the United States and working on another CD. She also has 2 books in the works that she wants to publish soon. She has currently just finished working on a project for The American Cancer Society Southeast Division as well. A compilation CD entitled 'Music For Life volume one' that features artists Patti Witten, Allison Tartalia, Danielle Miraglia, and herself. All of the profits of that CD go to The American Cancer Society. You can find it for sale here at Cdbaby also.

TEDDY JUDGE BAND FEATURED IN NEW RELEASE OF MOVIE CULT CLASSIC The Teddy Judge Band's riveting song "Corporate Culture," is heard in it's entirety in the 2011 release of the cult classic "Chain Gang Massacre." 'Corporate Culture," is a compellingly succinct indictment of the anti-life priorities that pervade our consumer society. Fans of Pink Floyd's "We Don't Need No Education" will find this track particularly irresistible. With it's hypnotic lyrics & it's chant-like melody, this song burned itself into my brain. Be forewarned. Once heard, "Corporate Culture" will echo throughout your cranium & leave a bittersweet aftertaste. I love it.' says Bob Leone, National Projects Director, Songwriters Hall of Fame (1988-2006). Fans will recognize this hard-driving song as a new direction for a band that made it's name in the rock/pop and county genres. Songwriters Teddy Judge and Richard Henze once more show their amazing versatility. 'Corporate Culture' is included on the 'Twist of Fate' CD (available right here at cdbaby) and "Chain Gang Massacre" is available directly from OLDIES. Teddy Judge has been part of the professional music scene since his teen years growing up in the metropolitan New York area. Composing since the age of 15 with an inspired and unique take on love, loneliness and hope, Teddy has captured the imagination of a diverse array of fans, having played over 2,500 gigs across America. His exceptional songwriting education began with years of one-on-one mentoring by Michael Brown, of The Left Banke, who wrote the hit 'Walk Away Rene.' Teddy lived in a 24/7 musical environment, a virtual "songwriting university" where he wrote his first 100 songs, was instructed to throw them away, and then begin the process of creating a diverse and exciting catalogue which now includes over 300 songs spanning country, pop and rock genres. Teddy was a member of The Vandals, The Forerunners and Pegasus. Over the years he has played with Bruce Springsteen and with The Left Banke and his performance experience includes opening for such bands as Aerosmith, Twisted Sister and The Soul Survivors. Currently Teddy fronts his own Teddy Judge Band for live performances and recording. The band also features his co-writer Richard Henze on lead guitar and Robert Palino on drums with Sandy Jacobs (vocals/saxophone) and Rave Tesar (keyboards) as auxiliary members. His prior releases include the If CD containing 14 new songs, which follows: So Easy (2005), This World (2001), Volume 1 (2000) and Take Time (1999).

"Barrel Racer is a great song and well done. It captures the passion and romantic image rodeo girls possess" (Laurie Tietjen) A native of Mississippi, this veteran artist says it was his grandmother's love of gospel music, his grandfather's love for country and blues music, and his daddy's love of jazz and pop that set his musical interests. Early in life, Howard Lips was immersed in classical training first on the violin and then on the piano before rock and roll spoiled his desire for a classical career. A young man named Elvis Presley from Tupelo, MS, burst on the scene, changing Howard and the world. Now hooked on this new sound, he became passionately obsessed with learning tunes of the day on the piano instead of practicing classical disciplines. As popular music changed, Howard learned the latest hits and played the coffee house circuit, eventually finding his way to California and Doug Weston's Troubadour in Hollywood. It was this ironic twist of fate that put his thoughts on Nashville. While working at the Troubadour, he discovered that the former members of Buffalo Springfield were huge George Jones fans. The seed was planted and eventually he found his way to Music City. In Nashville, the Mississippi country-rocker was introduced to Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton at the height of their recording career. He learned the publishing and music production business with Porter Wagoner and multi-Grammy winning engineer Tom Pick. In 2000, Lips was awarded Certified Gold and Multi-platinum RIAA awards to commemorate his contribution to sales in excess of 18 million copies of the Airways CD and cassette "Headin' Home" by The Platters. Howard's youth was spent on his grandpa's farm located in Forrest County, just outside the Hattiesburg, MS, city limits. His maternal grandpa loved country and popular music and he heard Slim Harpo sing "Raining In My Heart" for the first time while riding in his grandpa's pickup truck. That primitive basic root music became the foundation of Howard's music. 8-time Grammy winner and co-producer Tom Pick wrote, "Howard's unique style of singing filled a void in country music. Howard's voice was a natural to bring out the soul in a stream of songs we wrote together." Co-producer Harrison Tyner wrote: "When first introduced to Howard's singing, I could not get enough. Over and over I've listened to the songs on this album and even now I can't stop coming back for more. I'm thrilled to have been a small part of this production and will always be grateful to Tom Pick for introducing me to the unique, one-of-a-kind songwriting/singing talents, style and abilities of Howard Lips. Adonda Records is proud to release this album.' Log on YouTube and view slideshows of Howard singing 'Barrel Racer' and 'Love's Brand New Today.' His second Adonda album, 'Down South,' will soon be available on CDbaby and we hope for more in the future. Performing as a single act on stage, Lips plays guitar, dobro, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica. An accomplished songwriter, he composes original tunes with his piano. A multi-instrumentalist performer, Lips is well-received in a variety of venues, such as fairs, concert halls, pubs, church events, festivals, and private parties. The music of Howard Lips is rooted in the traditional story-telling style of Folk music performed by Jimmy Rogers, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and Neil Diamond. He draws from the deep well of Elvis Presley's Gospel and Rock & Roll, Robert Johnson's Delta Blues, and Country Legends Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Sr. and Porter Wagoner. The Mississippi singer-songwriter performs music that spans 50 years of traditional Country, Pop, Rock & Roll, and Country Gospel. For bookings contact Howard directly via email: songwriter2338@yahoo.com You can learn more about Howard Lips in the 'Gallery' section of HTiMusic.com.
