Exploder waren eine der deutschen Metalbands, die nach einem Demo im Jahr 1987 das Schicksal in die eigene Hand nahmen und ihre eigene LP produzierten. Pictures Of Reality heisst das beeindruckende Resultat, welches 1988 auf Rockwerk Records, dem Label welches der Rockmusikerverein den Bands samt Labelcode zur Verfügung stellte, erschien. Der teils epische Metal, der auch gerne mal in Richtung Speed Metal geht, hätte damals bei einer der einschlägigen Firmen (Noise, Steamhammer, Roadrunner etc.) noch Chancen gehabt, bevor der traditionelle Metal in den Neunzigern seine Schwierigkeiten bekam. Dafür sorgt neben einem sehr ausdrucksstarken Gesang auch eine unglaublich professionelle Produktion (für eine Eigenpressung). Typischer Teutonenstahl gibt es auch nicht zu jeder Sekunde, denn über weite Strecken erinnert das Material an US-Bands wie Omen oder Liege Lord. Außerdem sprengen gleich zwei Songs die Achtminutenmarke. Das Album wurde von Eroc (Grobschnitt) vom Masterband überspieltund von Neudi remastert.
