The novel that introduced quantum fiction to literature shelves was called "a fable for our times" and extends the stage of human drama to the subatomic realm and entire cosmos. Mendle Orion is a writer who lives at the intersection of fiction and reality. He idealizes love and cynically rails against a world that wastes his dreams. The man's life is forever changed the day he meets a mysterious young woman with intense blue eyes and total amnesia who looks at urban life as though she's seeing it for the first time. Mendle names her Aira Flight, after the light being superhero of the latest book he's writing. As he falls in love with the soulful stranger, he discovers the she has no navel, and the novel he's writing is bizarrely unfolding as real coinciding events in his life. A novel within a novel are masterfully intertwined as mysteries unfold to a conclusion where even theoretical physics confirm the thin line between fairy tale and cold reality. All Bernadette "Bernie" O'Brien, an underachieving, overweight 14-year-old, who happens to be blind, wants is an average share of happiness. Instead, her life is on a runaway roller coaster that can only plummet down. As she begins her freshman year at Desert Vista High School, Bernie yearns to win love from Jason, her sister's football-star boyfriend. Instead, child-like Nick attaches himself to Bernie like acne. Then Bernie's best friend, Leese, dumps her for more popular girls during the first week of school. Bernie keeps her head up and makes friends at the losers' table - until Jason hits on one of those friends. Bernie's health spirals downward, but she refuses to accept a diagnosis of kidney disease. When Leese falsely accuses a young teacher of abusing her, Bernie falters between the choice of regaining their friendship or saving the teacher's career. Failed by those she idealizes, despising her own weaknesses, Bernie rejects her friends and family and veers toward depression. A Roller Coaster Down is a luminous, gently humorous story of failure and redemption, of the universal hunt for love and self-respect. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Maya Tuttle. The Passionate Shepherd to His Love, known for its first line, "Come live with me and be my love," is a poem written by the English poet Christopher Marlowe and published in 1599 (six years after the poet's death). In addition to being one of the best-known love poems in the English language, it is considered one of the earliest examples of the pastoral style of British poetry in the late Renaissance period. It is composed in iambic tetrameter (four feet of unstressed/stressed syllables), with seven (sometimes six, depending on the version) stanzas each composed of two rhyming couplets. It is often used for scholastic purposes for its regular meter and rhythm. The poem was the subject of a well-known "reply" by Walter Raleigh, called "The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd". The interplay between the two poems reflects the relationship that Marlowe had with Raleigh. Marlowe was young, his poetry romantic and rhythmic, and in the Passionate Shepherd he idealizes the love object (the Nymph). Raleigh was an old courtier and an accomplished poet himself. His attitude is more jaded, and, in writing "The Nymph's Reply", he rebukes Marlowe for being naive and juvenile in both his writing style and the Shepherd's thoughts about love. ungekürzt. Modern culture would have you believe that everyone has a soul mate; that romance is the most important part of a successful marriage; that marriage does not mean 'til death do us part, but merely for as long as my needs are being met; and that when serious differences arise, divorce is the best solution.According to the Bible, all of these modern-day assumptions miss what marriage is all about. Join Timothy Keller, along with Kathy, his wife of 40 years, as they draw a profound portrait of marriage from the pages of Scripture that neither idealizes nor rejects the institution but points us back to the relationship between God and man. The result is a vision for marriage that is refreshingly frank and unsentimental, yet hopeful and beautiful. The Audio Bible Study series provides a unique learning experience. The New York Times best-selling and legendary author of Helen of Troy and Elizabeth I now turns her gaze on Emperor Nero, one of the most notorious and misunderstood figures in history. Built on the backs of those who fell before it, Julius Caesar's imperial dynasty is only as strong as the next person who seeks to control it. In the Roman Empire, no one is safe from the sting of betrayal: man, woman - or child. As a boy Nero's royal heritage becomes a threat to his very life, first when the mad emperor Caligula tries to drown him, then when his great-aunt attempts to secure her own son's inheritance. Faced with shocking acts of treachery, young Nero is dealt a harsh lesson: It is better to be cruel than dead. While Nero idealizes the artistic and athletic principles of Greece, his very survival rests on his ability to navigate the sea of vipers that is Rome. The most lethal of all is his own mother, a cold-blooded woman whose singular goal is to control the empire. With cunning and poison, the obstacles fall one by one. But as Agrippina's machinations earn her son a title he is both tempted and terrified to assume, Nero's determination to escape her thrall will shape him into the man he was fated to become - an emperor who became legendary. With impeccable research and captivating prose, The Confessions of Young Nero is the story of a boy's ruthless ascension to the throne. Detailing his journey from innocent youth to infamous ruler, it is an epic tale of the lengths to which man will go in the ultimate quest for power and survival. ungekürzt. Language: English. Many of us try to learn how to communicate throughout our lives with other individuals. We think that once we learn communication skills, we are set to talk to anyone. This belief is one that is quickly thrown by the wayside once we meet a narcissist whom we want or need to communicate with. His thought patterns and speech may be much different from anything we've ever encountered before. Before we know it, we have upset the narcissist and have gotten on his bad side, which is a very bad place to be. In book one we detailed the different emotional places that the borderline and her narcissistic lover might come from during their development and in response to their relationships with their caregivers. As children, when we experience the overprotective helicopter parent who idealizes us far too much, the parent who can never accept the child's individuality and asks perfection of him, or the cold and emotionally invalidating parent(s) that tell us "boys don't cry", it disrupts our emotional development during the first 18 years, causing things like narcissism, borderline personality disorder, OCPD, avoidant personality disorder, antisocial personality or conduct disorders, or schizoid personality disorder. First, I want to give a little back information on the borderline-narcissist relationship duo for those who are new to my series and refresh those who have tuned in to my other related books. The relationship duo between borderlines and narcissists tends to be more common than we think. There is no true way to get a good picture of how many relationships span this dynamic, as many borderlines and narcissists go undiagnosed or undetected. Most narcissists don't have the intuition, knowledge of their condition, or interest in their inner world to pursue why they are the way they are. It is unlikely that they would seek treatment because of their overinflated egos... ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: D Gaunt.
