A gripping stand-alone thriller from the Sunday Times number one best-selling author of the Logan McRae series. Welcome to the Misfit Mob... It's where Police Scotland dumps the officers it can't get rid of but wants to: the outcasts, the troublemakers, the compromised. Officers like DC Callum MacGregor, lumbered with all the boring go-nowhere cases. So when an ancient mummy turns up at the Oldcastle tip, it's his job to find out which museum it's been stolen from. But then Callum uncovers links between his ancient corpse and three missing young men, and life starts to get a lot more interesting. O Division's Major Investigation Teams already have more cases than they can cope with, so, against everyone's better judgment, the Misfit Mob are just going to have to manage this one on their own. No one expects them to succeed, but right now they're the only thing standing between the killer's victims and a slow, lingering death. The question is, can they prove everyone wrong before he strikes again? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Steve Worsley. Imagine you're circling a crowded parking lot. Just as you spot a space, another driver races ahead and takes it. In a world of road rage, domestic violence, and professionally angry TV and radio commentators, your likely response is anger, even fury. Now imagine that instead of another driver, a cow has lumbered into that parking space and settled down. Your anger dissolves into bemusement. What has changed? Not just the occupant of the space but your perspective on the situation. We're a society swimming in anger, always about to snap. Using simple, understandable Buddhist principles, Scheff and Edmiston explain how to replace anger with happiness. They introduce the four most common types of anger (Important and Reasonable, Reasonable but Unimportant, Irrational, and Impossible), then show how to identify our real unmet demands, dissolve our anger, and change what happens when our buttons are pushed. We learn to laugh at ourselves, a powerful early step, and realize that others don't make us angry. Only we can make ourselves angry. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Bill Mendieta. When Karen Drew is found sitting in her wheelchair staring out to sea with her throat cut one chilly morning, DI Annie Cabbot, on loan to Eastern Area, gets lumbered with the case. Back in Eastvale, that same Sunday morning, 19-year-old Hayley Daniels is found raped and strangled in the Maze, a tangle of narrow alleys behind Eastvale's market square, after a drunken night on the town with a group of friends, and DCI Alan Banks is called in. Banks finds suspects galore, while Annie seems to hit a brick wall - until she reaches a breakthrough that spins her case in a shocking and surprising new direction, one that also involves Banks. Then another incident occurs in the Maze which seems to link the two cases in a bizarre and mysterious way. As Banks and Annie dig into the past to uncover the deeper connections, they find themselves also dealing with the emotional baggage and personal demons of their own relationship. And it soon becomes clear that there are two killers in their midst, and that at any moment either one might strike again. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Richard Burnip. Aberdeen is panicking. It's been 18 years since Grampian Police caught the Flesher - the notorious serial killer who butchered people all over the UK - and seven years since he was released from Peterhead prison, his conviction overturned on appeal. But when a container, full of joints of human meat turns up at Aberdeen Harbour it kicks off the largest man hunt in Aberdeen's history. Ken Wiseman is on the run and looking for revenge. As senior police officers descend on the Granite City from up and down the county, Detective Sergeant Logan McRae is lumbered with the unenviable task of babysitting Chief Constable Mark Faulds from Birmingham - one of the original investigation team - and trying to keep DI Insch from throwing his career away in his obsessive quest to see Wiseman behind bars before he kills again. When members of the team that put Wiseman away in 1990 start going missing, Logan knows that things aren't as straightforward as everyone thinks. More and more human meat is turning up in the food chain. Twenty years of secrets and lies are being dragged into the light. And the only thing that's certain is Aberdeen will never be the same again. Language: English. Narrator: Cameron Stewart. I'd had it with magic. Me and it were no longer friends. This addict went cold turkey. Five years I'd been clean for, not even a taste of the good stuff. No longer a space cadet. Life was quiet, life was good. Life was as boring as a conference on boring hosted by Professor Boring McBoring from Boringsville University. So, I have to admit, that when I got drawn back into the Hidden world I wasn't as reluctant as I made out. What I wasn't expecting was having to deal with a dragon holding the dwarves' gold hostage, accidentally unleashing a maniac on the city, and fighting for my life as everything goes into free fall. Oh, plus I've got myself lumbered with a rather keen wizard-in-training. Now I'm almost out of time, certainly out of luck, but I have responsibilities and I will fight until the bitter end. Problem being, the end is looking decidedly nasty, and a blast from our collective past threatens to leave the entire world a barren wasteland. Hi, I'm Faz Pound, and, once again, you can call me Black Spark, Dark Magic Enforcer. I'm also considering swearing off the magic again. Maybe. ungekürzt. Language: English. The culture of the Indian people who inhabited the Bay Area prior to the arrival of EuropeansTwo hundred years ago, herds of elk and antelope dotted the hills of the San Francisco-Monterey Bay area. Grizzly bears lumbered down to the creeks to fish for silver salmon and steelhead trout. From vast marshlands geese, ducks, and other birds rose in thick clouds “with a sound like that of a hurricane”. This land of “inexpressible fertility", as one early explorer described it, supported one of the densest Indian populations in all of North America. One of the most groundbreaking and highly acclaimed titles that Heyday has published, The Ohlone Way describes the culture of the Indian people who inhabited the Bay Area prior to the arrival of Europeans. Recently included in the San Francisco Chronicle’s “Top 100 Western Non-Fiction” list, The Ohlone Way has been described by critic Pat Holt as a “mini-classic”.Reviews“A beautiful book, written and illustrated with a genuine sympathy....A serious and compelling re-creation.” (The Pacific Sun)“Remarkable insight in to the lives of the Ohlone Indians.” (San Francisco Chronicle)“Margolin conveys the texture of daily life, birth, marriage, death, war, the arts, and rituals, and he also discusses the brief history of the Ohlones under the Spanish, Mexican, and American regimes...Margolin does not give way to romanticism or political harangues, and the illustrations have a gritty quality that is preferable to the dreamy, pretty pictures that too often accompany texts like this.” (Choice) ungekürzt. Democrat Grover Cleveland is perhaps best remembered as the only person to serve two non-consecutive terms in the White House, as both the 22nd President of the United States, from 1885 through 1889, and as the 24th President of the United States, from 1893 until 1897. During his presidential campaign and first term, the former Mayor of Buffalo and Governor of New York often garnered the sort of media attention that would bedevil public figures of any era.    He was forced to answer publicly certain nagging questions regarding a child supposedly fathered out of wedlock, and he was gently if enviably lampooned for his marriage to a woman three decades his junior, the former Ms. Francis Folsom. Hence, press scrutiny was nothing new to Grover Cleveland as he began his second term.   Two months into his second term, with economic turmoil mounting, President Cleveland was faced with a more personal challenge. A rather large man, whose nieces and nephews lovingly referred to as “Uncle Jumbo,” Cleveland was a hearty eater, a life-long smoker, and a guy who liked his beer. Simply put, the President’s physical condition revealed his appetites.   On the morning of May 5th, 1893, Cleveland lumbered into the White House lavatory, brushed back his walrus moustache, and discovered a “rough spot” on the roof his mouth. Although he chose to keep the matter to himself for over a month, attendant discomfort increased, and he soon began to consider the likely cause of his ailment more seriously.   In the annals of political cover-ups, Grover Cleveland’s brilliantly orchestrated secret cancer surgery, performed during the financial crisis of 1893, was a public hoodwinking par excellence.   Cover illustration from the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division: Grover Cleveland. , ca. 1884. Williams misted up as he thought of the saloon girl who had shown him such affection. “I won’t shoot them, then.” (Now listen, Will. Don’t let your personal feelings...) “I said I won’t shoot them,” he snapped, and turned toward Luna, who was cowering at the top of the stairs. “We’ll have to find another way.” To Luna he said: “It’s all right, sweetie. Everything’s going to be all right.” (Dammit, Will, I can’t handle an entire pack on my own, and you know it. Now, are we serious about making it to Tanelorn, or at least Barley’s, or not? Or have all our plans changed because a saloon girl threw a leg up on you in a town we will never see again?) “Meh,” Williams sighed angrily and moved toward the building’s front windows, which Ank had blocked with pinball machines and video games, with only partial success. (Don’t walk away from me when I’m talking to you, dammit!) Ank lumbered after him, the tiled floor cracking beneath his elephantine feet. (We made a pact. And what about the girl? Would you see her torn to pieces by those things while you simply watched?) “Go away!” Williams hissed. He peeked around one of the machines and saw the raptors lined up in the gathering dark, waiting to make their move, waiting to rush the snack bar and overwhelm them, waiting to kill them or worse, to turn them into creatures like themselves. “Are you talking to me?” whined the girl, her voice seeming to bleed as if cut by invisible knives. “Why would you want me to go away all of a sudden?” “No - that’s not what I meant - I...” (I can’t do it, Will. They’ll swarm in beneath my armor and...they’ll tear me to pieces.) Williams held up his rifle - pressed his forehead against it. (We need your magic with that gun, Will. I need it. And if you don’t step up, I’m going to have to...and I won’t make it. Not this time.) “Come out, Williams!” “Yes, my love, come out!” A new voice. Her ungekürzt. Language: English.
