The Pyramids and the Pentagon: The Government's Top Secret Pursuit of Mystical Relics, Ancient Astronauts, and Lost Civilizations , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 414min
The Pyramids and the Pentagon is a detailed study of how and why government agencies have, for decades, taken a clandestine and profound interest in numerous archeological, historical, and religious puzzles. Focusing primarily upon the classified work of the U.S. Government, The Pyramids and the Pentagon invites you to take a wild ride into the fog-shrouded past. Nick Redfern's The Pyramids and the Pentagon clearly and provocatively demonstrates that deep and dark conspiracies exist within the shadowy world of officialdom - conspiracies that have the ability to rock the foundations of civilization, religion, and history to their very core. The strange and amazing secrets of the past are just a heavily guarded government vault away. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Peter Jude. Sherlock Holmes and the Menacing Monk , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 253min
Sherlock Holmes looks on idle and infuriated from the sidelines while evil has Whitechapel in the grip of fear, evil which bears the infamous name of Jack the Ripper, a name set to raise the hackles on people's necks for generations to come. A fearful officialdom has declared Sherlock persona non grata but is suffering the wrath of public opinion for its failure to bring the murderer to justice. Sherlock suspects there is more to this ritual of death being performed on London's darkened streets and makes plans for his own inquiry after an ancient brotherhood makes contact. Stanza by stanza, the listener is stirringly swept along as Allan Mitchell s rhythmic rhymes carry Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson toward their electrifying encounter with the "Menacing Monk". ungekürzt. The Custom of the Country , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 354min
By the time Jim Gilruth returns to Pakistan - 20 years after he served as a law officer in a small village near Lahore - colonial rule has given way to Pakistani officialdom. Jim’s strange and enigmatic mission is painfully involved in the brutal clash of the old and the new - but why he has been chosen as the instrument of coercion remains a mystery. Then the details of a half-forgotten murder that Jim adjudicated long ago begin to come back in all their bewildering nuances, and in an eerie repetition of the circumstances of a generation ago he finds himself powerless to save the life of a good man - or to bring a murderer to justice. Praised by critics for his clean prose style, characterisation, and the strong sense of place in his novels, Philip Maitland Hubbard was born in Reading, Berkshire and brought up in the Channel Islands. He was educated at Oxford, where he won the Newdigate Prize for English verse in 1933. From 1934 until its disbandment in 1947 he served with the Indian Civil service, then for the British Council, before retiring to work as a freelance writer. He contributed to a number of publications, including Punch, and wrote 16 novels for adults and two children's books. He lived in Dorset and Scotland, and many of his novels draw on his interest in and knowledge of rural pursuits and folk religion. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jack Fortune. When Tears Don't Matter
Following Cry Sadness into the Coming Rain (Steidl, 2017), which documents the seared landscapes of the Namib Desert and was shortlisted for the Deutscher Fotobuchpreis 18 19, Margaret Courtney-Clarke now turns her lens to the bushmen of the Kalahari Desert. The inspiration for When Tears Don't Matter comes, in part, from her grandfather's photographs of almost a century earlier during his mandate as Secretary for South West Africa (now Namibia), some of which are reproduced in this book. 10,000 kilometers of formidable terrain takes Courtney-Clarke across remote bushveld, sand and salt pans to drought-stricken conservancies, tenuous farming communities that function as holding tanks for "inconvenient indigenes," "cultural villages" and peri-urban squatments, as far east as she could travel through the Namibian Kalahari Desert.Largely invisible to the outside world, the bushmen today are dispossessed of their land: a "shadow people" sidelined by officialdom, economic inequity and outdated mythologies which present them as living in an "uncontaminated" state. In this complex country where notions of truth and objectivity (and whiteness) are constantly explored, the battle against disenfranchisement is largely unsuccessful. Courtney-Clarke's photographs lie at the crossroads between documentary and activism, and their basis is an unfailing empathy with her subjects-in her words: "What is crucial in this work is to give place to a voice in search of a listener."- Shop: buecher
