The Open Spanish is considered to be one of the soundest systems in modern opening theory. It remains a popular choice among superstars such as Mamediyarov, Caruana , So and Giri and was used in World Championship matches byKorchnoi and Anand. In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace ofthe game. Black can go for long forced variations that lead to sharp endgames or choose a slower game with more pieces on the board. Therefore, the Open Spanish is not only an excellent weapon against stronger players, but also gives plentyof scope for the outplaying of “lesser rated’’ opponents. This DVD offers a full repertoire for Black against 1.e4 and gives you a great arsenal of ideas against all the topical lines.Video running time: 4 hours (English)• With interactive training including video feedback• Extra: Training with ChessBase apps - Memorize the opening repertoire and play key positionsagainst Fritz on various levels• Database with model gamesSystem requirements:Minimum: Pentium III 1 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Windows 7, DirectX9 graphic card with 256 MB RAM, DVD-ROM drive, WindowsMedia Player 9 and internet connection for program activation.Recommended: PC Intel Core i7, 2.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Windows 10, DirectX10 graphic card (or compatible) with 512 MB RAM or better, 100% DirectX10 compatible soundcard, Windows Media Player 11, DVD-ROM drive and internet connection for program activation.

Sergei Tiviakov: A nightmare for the NajdorfThe Najdorf is one of the most dangerous variations of the Sicilian Defense. Fighting against it is always difficult, but GM Tiviakov demonstrates a very effective way to combat this popular opening. Crafty players take the fight to their opponents on their own terms, and starting with 2.Nc3 you’ll learn how to take Najdorf connoisseurs into nebulas territory where they may quickly lose their way. Rife with examples from his own GM practice, Tiviakov’s clever move orders will arm the White player with tried and true transpositional tricks to force Black into unfamiliar Sicilian variations, the most common of which are the Paulsen and the Dragon variations — both thoroughly covered. Tiviakov reports scoring 80% against Najdorf specialists, so he can surely help 1.e4 players tip the theoretical scales in their favour!• Video running time: 5 hours 20 min (English)• With interactive training including video feedback• Bonus: Training with ChessBase apps - Memorize the opening repertoire and play key positions against Fritz on various levels• Extra: All games by the author in the variations presentedBorn 1973 in Krasnodar (Soviet Union), Sergei Tiviakov was a member of the Smyslov school and gained the titles of World Youth Champion at U16 and U18 levels. 1994 he represented Russia in the Chess Olympiads. Andrew Martin: The wicked Veresov AttackA tricky Opening with 1.d4The Veresov ( 1 d4 Nf6 2 Nc3 d5 3 Bg5) is little-played and understood when we compare it to other queen’s pawn openings, like the Trompowsky, Torre Attack and London system. As such it can be a very dangerous weapon in the right hands. Very few club or amateur players will be properly prepared to play against it. The Veresov is an attacking opening, based on quick minor-piece development followed by effective pawn levers to open the game. Many strong grandmasters have used the Veresov as a surprise weapon, including Spassky, Tal, Bronstein,Alburt and Gufeld. Modern exponents include Miladinovic and Jonny Hector, with whom the Veresov is a special favourite. On this all-new ChessBase DVD Andrew Martin introduces the opening and discusses how the main themes work. After that comes a selection of repertoire choices. Finally, there is a quiz, where you may test yourself about what you have learned. This DVD is an ideal introduction to this opening for players below 2000 or busy players who would like to play aggressive chess, but do not have time to learn the main lines. The Veresov is worth studying and playing!• Video running time: 4 hours 24 min. Charlie Storey: The SniperWinning with ...g6, ...Bg7 and ...c5!The Sniper – officially created in 2010 - has now been tested with success against top grandmasters and computer programs and still manages to ensure new and creative opening situations full of imbalance - and hence winning prospects for Black. DVD author Charlie Storey has used the Sniper, in conjunction with deep computer analysis, to help gain 145 UK Open victories and has seen his students employ it successfully in European Youth Championships. The Sniper is a universal opening framework which can be played against all main first white moves - 1.e4, 1.d4, 1.c4, 1.f4 and 1.Nf3. It is defined by: 1 (Any White move) …g6 – 2 (Any White move) …Bg7 – 3 (Any White move) …c5 In other words, Black plays 1…g6, 2…Bg7 and 3…c5 against practically anything! And where White prevents this deliberately, good suggestions are given for these ‘Anti – Sniper ’ variations to blow them away. The major benefit to any Sniper practitioner is that they build up a familiarity with the pawn structure in the resulting middle games which helps to prevent errors and saves time in practical play. Start your Sniper training as your first or secondary repertoire – and remember you can also play it as White!• Video running time: 7 hours 53 min. Victor Bologan: Winning with the King’s Indian Attack I have always loved the King’s Indian. My trainers, Ion Solonar and Vyacheslav Chebanenco, taught me to play it with Black, and also showed me how play the King’s Indian set-up with an extra tempo. An important extra tempo: Black plays the King’s Indian Defense, White plays the King’s Indian Attack! This opening was also a favourite of chess legend and 11th World Champion Bobby Fischer who is known for his aggressive play and his wish to win every game. With the King’s Indian Attack he scored 8,5 out of 9, creating a number of fine models games how to attack on the way. The King’s Indian Attack is mainly reached via the French Defense (1.e4 e6 2.d3) and the Sicilian with 2…e6, but it can also arise from the Reti Opening, when Black plays …e6 and …d5 to reach structures from the Queen’s Gambit Declined. 30 years ago the King’s Indian Attack was considered as an interesting and original way to avoid theoretical battles. But today’s theory sees the King’s Indian Attack in line with the modern approach to postpone the fight for the centre to the middlegame. The King’s Indian Attack is full of positional and tactical ideas and often an unpleasant surprise for the opponent. The opening is easy to prepare but it’s important to remember that the King’s Indian Attack is more about ideas and plans and less about forced and complicated lines. Since my junior days it has been a reliable weapon and it still serves me well today.• Video running time: 4 hours 27 min.
