The past is seldom as we'd have it, and the future is too uncertain a thing. Embrace the here and now. Make the most of today, it's all you have, and all you can trust in. And that's exactly what Jenevier was trying to do. Her mistakes were behind her, along with her bloody past. She wasn't even certain if she had a future anymore, she just lived each day as it came. She'd bargained with God, tried to reverse the sun, erase her murderous crime. Alas, you must be certain you can pay the price before the bartering begins. But, what do you do when your life is just one big long string of bad decisions? You grow and move forward, determined your future won't mirror your past. Or you change nothing. You just keep doing what you've always done until you stagnate and die. Either way, the decision is yours alone to make. After wrongfully killing Merodach, Jenevier trades her soul for his life and wakes up all alone in a strange new world. She must pay the price, learn her lesson, and discover her intended blessing before she can start over. But along with her epiphany, she'll find a whole new realm complete with its own set of problems. There's no perfect place in this universe because we're not perfect creatures. No matter where you find yourself, there you are. If you step into paradise dragging all your tainted and scarred baggage with you, then it's no longer paradise. Your flawed heart removes the bliss, negates utopia. Home was all she longed for, all she dreamed of. But was her home, her past, a place she could run to? Or would she find it was the one place she wanted to run from? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Melissa Carey. The #1 New York Times bestselling author and the Edgar Award-winning author are back with a new novel featuring Kendra Michaels - hired gun for both the CIA and FBI. It's been four months since the events of Sight Unseen, and Kendra Michaels is obsessed with trying to track down serial killer Eric Colby. Despite his apparent execution at San Quentin, Kendra is convinced that Colby is still alive. The trouble is, she can't prove it. Even her razor-sharp powers of observation, honed while blind during the first twenty years of her life, have gotten her nowhere. So no one believes her. Then out of the blue she gets a call from the Sheriff of Olancha, California, about a young woman being held on a drunk and disorderly charge who lists Kendra as her emergency contact. It's Eve Duncan's sister, Beth Avery, who after being wrongfully institutionalized for five years has been living on the road and trying to figure out her life. Kendra can identify, having gone through a similar period of self-discovery after gaining her sight, and she takes Beth home to San Diego with her. But the murder of a police detective who had once very openly crossed swords with Kendra is about to complicate her life even further. She visits the crime scene in search of anything that might provide a link to Colby and instead finds evidence that links the crime to her. Finally Colby's master plan becomes clear: he is framing Kendra for a brutal cop-killing. Suspicions mount along with the body count, and Kendra is thrust into spine-tingling pursuit to clear her name and find the killer no one believes exists anymore. Beth joins her on her quest, and agent-for-hire Adam Lynch soon follows. And they get help from another friend anxious to repay her debt to Kendra...none other than Eve Duncan herself. ungekürzt. The third thrilling installment in the best-selling Under Suspicion series from number one New York Times best-selling author and Queen of Suspense Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke. Television producer Laurie Moran puts everything on the line to help a woman she thinks was wrongfully convicted of murder. Casey Carter was convicted of murdering her fiancé - famed philanthropist Hunter Raleigh III - 15 years ago. And Casey claims - has always claimed - she's innocent. Although she was charged and served out her sentence in prison, she is still living under suspicion. She hears whispers at the grocery store. She can't get a job. Even her own mother treats her like she's guilty. Her story attracts the attention of Laurie Moran and the Under Suspicion news team - it's Casey's last chance to finally clear her name, and Laurie pledges to exonerate her. With Alex Buckley taking a break from the show - cooling his potential romance with Laurie - Under Suspicion introduces a new on-air host named Ryan Nichols, a young legal whiz with a Harvard Law degree, a Supreme Court clerkship, experience as a federal prosecutor, and regular stints on the cable news circuit. He's got a big reputation and the attitude to match it. Ryan has no problems with steering - and stealing - the show and even tries to stop Laurie from taking on Casey's case because he's so certain she's guilty. An egomaniacal new cohost, a relentless gossip columnist who seems to have all the dirt (and a surprising informant), and Casey's longstanding bad reputation: Laurie must face all this and more to do what she believes is right, to once and for all prove Casey's innocence - that is, if she is innocent. The Sleeping Beauty Killer will keep you guessing until the very end. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jan Maxwell. For fans of All the Light We Cannot See and Orphan Train, the author of the "thought-provoking" (Library Journal) and "must-read" (PopSugar) novel The Gilded Years crafts a captivating tale of three young people divided by the horrors of World War II and their journey back to one another. During the turbulent months following the 1941 bombing of Pearl Harbor, 21-year-old Emi Kato, the daughter of a Japanese diplomat, is locked behind barbed wire in a Texas internment camp. She feels hopeless until she meets handsome young Christian Lange, whose German-born parents were wrongfully arrested for un-American activities. Together they live as prisoners with thousands of other German and Japanese families but discover that love can bloom in even the bleakest circumstances. When Emi and her mother are abruptly sent back to Japan, Christian enlists in the United States Army, with his sights set on the Pacific front - and, he hopes, a reunion with Emi, unaware that her first love, Leo Hartmann, the son of wealthy of Austrian parents and now a Jewish refugee in Shanghai, may still have her heart. Fearful of bombings in Tokyo, Emi's parents send her to a remote resort town in the mountains, where many in the foreign community have fled. Cut off from her family, struggling with growing depression and hunger, Emi repeatedly risks her life to help keep her community safe - all while wondering if the two men she loves are still alive. As Christian Lange struggles to adapt to life as a soldier, his unit pushes its way from the South Pacific to Okinawa, where one of the bloodiest battles of World War II awaits them. Meanwhile, in Japanese-occupied Shanghai, as Leo fights to survive the squalor of the Jewish ghetto, a surprise confrontation with a Nazi officer threatens his life. For both men, Emi Kato is never far from their minds. Flung together by war, passion, and extraordinary acts of selflessness ungekürzt. Language: English. Have you ever wondered about your beliefs, thinking that, maybe, you were taught the wrong principles? And what if I told you that there is a different way of looking at the world? Wicca, to many, is a pagan religion that circulates around worshiping Satan. But this is simply not true. When Wicca was first introduced, the principal religions of the 20th century felt threatened, dubbing this belief system as unholy. Wrongfully so.The religion of Wicca is not even a religion at all; it is a system of beliefs that was founded on the principles pre-dating Christianity and other modern religions, where a god and a goddess, the male and female, rule together over us and our destinies. In this belief system, you will not be asked to sacrifice or murder or fanatically worship the deity. You will be offered a different perspective, a different way of looking at the world. Wicca, in truth, is about love and equality. It is about taking care of our nature as it takes care of us. It offers people a chance to get together and spend time in harmony and worship of life itself, instead of giving everything to people who use people’s beliefs to cheat and control them.As the author puts it:“Wicca is a profound gratefulness and amazement in viewing the dawn or dusk, the timberland in the light of a gleaming moon, a glade charmed by the primary light of day. It is the morning dew on the petals of a wonderful blossom, the delicate touch of a warm summer wind upon your skin, or the glow of the late spring sun all over. Wicca is the fall of brilliant harvest time leaves, and the delicate quality of winter day off. It is light, and shadow, and every one of that lies in the middle. It is the melody of the winged animals and different animals of nature. It is being within the sight of Mother Earth's nature and being lowered in adoration.”  ungekürzt. Language: English. When a marketing rep comes into your office or someone from the management team and tells you to "sell the value", how often do you find yourself rolling your eyes? As a former agency owner and now a consultant, I often find myself spouting the same slogan. Why? Because, I have done it and done it quite successfully. Whenever a rep came into my office and told me to sell the value of carrier X, I would think that’s something an expensive company would say or an overpriced company, because what else could they say? We’ve officially entered a hard market cycle in California on the personal lines side, which is strange to even say.The market has tightened up and many carriers are non-renewing or reducing underwriting appetite to not take on a lot of new business in California. This is why I started writing in 2014 and again in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In my estimation our industry is going to see a massive shift over the next three or four years. A shift from judgement underwriting to block chain and data underwriting. Artificial intelligence has already been underwriting, selling and handling claims for smaller insure-tech companies for the past four years. This is a prevalent trend in our industry. But, why? Why? Because, we have shifted our focus from selling peace of mind to selling a price. Why? Because, we have put more value on talking about premium, payments and price, than having hard conversations about protecting assets and families. We have shifted hard on price, and almost every insurance company has followed suit in their marketing efforts. Almost exclusively every billboard, social media ad and print ad espouses X insurance carrier savings you up to 25-43 percent on your insurance per year. The conversation has shifted in a way that will cannibalize our industry and wrongfully set expectations for consumers.A recent study by insurancequotes.com found that around 80 percent of consumers self-report in blind surveys that consume ungekürzt. Harrowing true hauntings of horror and suffering.... If you have studied the paranormal very long, you know that there is a strong tie between trauma and hauntings. Often, a person who experienced some terrible incident in their life continues to haunt that same area after they have died - a murder victim can still be seen in the house or next to the road, a man who was wrongfully executed can still be seen wandering the halls of where he was executed. But, these are all situations in which a person met with trauma at the end of their life - so what about those who lived a life of pain and suffering? Those who had no one to stand up for them and make sure they were treated properly? Those who lived their lives in the walls of a mental asylum - cut off from the world, and subjected to the greatest horrors known to man? In this book, I am going to take you on a journey through mental asylums. I am going to show you the horrors that have taken place, and the grisly aftermath of those horrors. I am going to show you what it was like for men, women, and children who may or may not have had a mental disorder, and the terrifying things that were done to them in this life. As you listen to this book, you are going to get a glimpse into the truth - into the lives of men and women whose only crime was that they were different from the rest of the world, and the rest of the world had no tolerance for it. This book is going to show you what you should know about the history of asylums, and those who were mistreated as a result.... Here's a preview of what's in this book.... Haunted Hospitals and Asylums: The Modern Horror of the Rockland Psychiatric Center Haunted Hospitals and Asylums: The Haunted Tunnel of the Eloise Asylum Haunted Hospitals and Asylums: The 13 Steps to Hell Haunted Hospitals and Asylums: The Unspeakable Atrocities of the Royal Hope Hospital Haunted Hospitals and ungekürzt. Written by a wrongfully convicted man who spent 16 years in solitary confinement and 12 years on death row, a powerful memoir about fighting for - and winning - exoneration. In the summer of 1992, a grandmother, a teenage girl, and four children under the age of 10 were beaten and stabbed to death in Somerville, Texas. The perpetrator set the house on fire to cover his tracks, deepening the heinousness of the crime and rocking the tiny community to its core. Authorities were eager to make an arrest. Five days later, Anthony Graves was in custody. Graves, then 26 years old and without an attorney, was certain that his innocence was obvious. He did not know the victims, he had no knowledge about the crime, and he had an airtight alibi with witnesses. There was also no physical evidence linking him to the scene. Yet Graves was indicted, convicted of capital murder, sentenced to death, and, over the course of 12 years on death row, given two execution dates. He was not freed for 18 years, two months, four days. Through years of suffering the whims of rogue prosecutors, vote-hungry district attorneys, and Texas State Rangers who played by their own rules, Graves was frequently exposed to the dire realities of being poor and black in the criminal justice system. He witnessed fellow inmates who became his friends and confidants be taken away, one by one, to their deaths. And he missed out on seeing his three young sons mature into men. Graves's only solace was his infinite hope that the state would not execute him for a crime he did not commit. To maintain his dignity and sanity, Graves made sure as many people as possible knew about his case. He wrote letters to whomever he thought would listen. Pen pals in countries all over the world became allies, and he attracted the attention of a savvy legal team that overcame setback after setback, chiseling away at the state's faulty case against him. Everyone's efforts eventually worked. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Leon Nixon. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/rand/005464/bk_rand_005464_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

When I was young and foolish I hitchhiked across the country with my white cane and survived a lot of things that arguably I should not have.  I was almost hit by a trolley car, I had numerous encounters with the police, was approached by child trafficking rings, was robbed at gun point, and was involuntarily driven in to a wooded area by two very impaired people. I was also wrongfully placed in a mental institution. I also met lawyers who assisted me in a major law suit against a Fortune 500 Company.  The book begins with one of the experiences that I survived while hitchhiking in Florida. I continue by writing about my life as a blind person. How did my parents handle the news no parent can possibly be prepared for - that I was totally blind? How did I handle my blindness, and how did my need to be independent deeply influence my future?  It also colorfully discusses my time in a residential school for the blind and some of the conflicting emotions that impacted me, such as feeling sad and abandoned when being sent away from home at the age of four years old, and numerous other occasions during my youth.  Listeners will cry as they experience the sadness, anger, and depression that I grew up with. They will smile and laugh as they read stories that are humorous, interesting, and educational from the standpoint of blindness, and stories that demonstrate outright stupidity because kids who are poorly supervised can do some crazy things when left to their own devices. They will ride with me and at times fear for their lives as I did when I hitchhiked across the country with just my white cane. They will experience with me the many dangers that I faced and was totally unprepared for - but somehow I survived them all.  Was I brave, stupid, young, and invincible, or simply naive and totally unaware of impending dangers? These things are left for you to decide. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Ken Solin. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/112928/bk_acx0_112928_sample.mp3.
