Named one of the Top 40 Horror Books of All Time by the Horror Writers Association, Theodore Sturgeon’s dark and foreboding look at the vampire myth was an instant classic when it was originally published. Army psychiatrist Philip Outerbridge receives a confidential folder containing the letters, memos, and transcripts for a young soldier named George Smith - a quiet young man with a terrible past and a shocking secret. As Outerbridge conducts George’s therapy, he gradually discovers the truth about George’s traumatic childhood, his twisted romance with an older woman named Anna, and the unusual obsession George keeps hidden from the world. With the masterful touch that earned him the Hugo and Nebula awards, Theodore Sturgeon creates a character of both unsettling violence and irresistible humanity, eliciting both horror and sympathy. ungekürzt. At 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001, 14,000 people were inside the twin towers; reading e-mails, making trades, eating croissants at Windows on the World. Over the next 102 minutes, each would become part of a drama for the ages, one witnessed only by the people who lived it, until now. New York Times reporters Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn rely on hundreds of interviews; thousands of pages of oral histories; and phone, e-mail, and emergency radio transcripts. They cross a bridge of voices to go inside the infernos, seeing cataclysm and heroism, one person at a time, to tell the affecting, authoritative saga of the men and women, the 12,000 who escaped and the 2,749 who perished, who made 102 minutes count as never before. The first ever publication of Mark E. Smith's supernatural film treatment, co-authored with Graham Duff.In 2015 Mark E. Smith of The Fall and screenwriter Graham Duff co-wrote the script for a horror feature film called The Otherwise. The story involved The Fall recording an EP in an isolated recording studio on Pendle Hill. The Lancashire landscape is not only at the mercy of a satanic biker gang, it's also haunted by a gaggle of soldiers who have slipped through time from the Jacobite Rebellion. However, every film production company who saw the script said it was 'too weird' to ever be made. The Otherwise is weird. Yet it's also witty, shocking and genuinely scary. Now the screenplay is published for the first time, alongside photographs, drawings and handwritten notes. The volume also contains previously unpublished transcripts of conversations between Smith and Duff, where they discuss creativity, dreams, musical loves (from Can to acid house) and favourite films (from Britannia Hospital to White Heat). Smith also talks candidly about his youth and mortality, in exchanges that are both touching and extremely funny.

Winner of the 2021 Cundill History PrizeWinner of the 2021 Frederick Douglass Prize 'A richly detailed account of a gripping human story' Washington Post'[An] epic history ... a sweeping, thoughtful narrative' Los Angeles TimesOn February 27, 1763, thousands of slaves in the Dutch colony of Berbice (in present-day Guyana) launched a massive rebellion. Surrounded by jungle and savannah, the revolutionaries fought for an entire year... and came very close to succeeding. In Blood on the River, historian Marjoleine Kars reconstructs a rich day-to-day account of this pivotal event - drawing on over nine hundred interrogation transcripts and other documents collected by the Dutch when the rebellion finally collapsed, and which were subsequently buried in archives. An astonishing original work of history, Blood on the River provides a rare in-depth look at the political vision of enslaved people at the dawn of the Age of Revolution - and is an extraordinary new contribution to our understanding of revolutions, slavery, and of the story of freedom in the New World.

It was late 1963 and Donald H. McGannon invited the following four "Participants": Malcolm Kilduff, J. F. Ter Horst, Robert Donovan, and Sid Davis to a round table discussion surrounding their eyewitness accounts of the JFK assassination. Jim Snyder would be the moderator. It had only been a few weeks since the tragic day of November 22, 1963 and this was the first time these men would be gathered together in a room to discuss their individual recollections of this great American tragedy. Did these participants know they were being recorded? In 1964 these candid conversations were eternally captured on tape and fashioned into a very limited double album set that was never made available for sale. In taking on the assignment of ensuring that this decades old piece of American History was preserved, and properly opened up to the world, Myron spent years carefully studying the two albums recorded audio; These are his personal transcripts of the double albums recorded audio using various forms of modern technology. Born in Dublin in 1854 Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde was educated at Oxford where he achieved a double first. His reputation as a dramatist, poet, and novelist was established in only seven years; from his first short story "The Happy Prince" to The Importance of Being Earnest in 1895. He died in Paris in 1900 ruined by a notorious libel case and two years in Reading gaol. On 18th February 1895, the Marquess of Queensberry left a visiting card at the Albemarle Club on which he had written: "To Oscar Wilde posing as a sodomite." The accusation led to a series of three trials and the imprisonment of Wilde. This compelling dramatic recreation has been carefully compiled from the original trial transcripts. Performed almost entirely by Martin Jarvis taking the parts of barristers, witnesses, judge, jury, and, of course, Oscar Wilde. It captures the flavour of the trials exactly. Language: English. Narrator: Martin Jarvis. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/csaw/000041/bk_csaw_000041_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.
