Study after study has shown that social media platforms such as Facebook do not actually bring us closer. Some quick search engine research will show that Facebook and other similar social media sites increase feelings of depression, isolation and jealousy. It can be difficult to recall a time when our private lives weren't broadcasted to our entire social circles. It is easy to forget that our former colleague from a part-time job during your college days has the same access to family photos as your spouse.Blurred lines between what is sacred between your family, yourself and your extended social circle has left many confused about what to post, who to exclude and what to keep off of the internet - all of which drain your energy and keep you away from more meaningful tasks. With privacy concerns rising, it is no wonder people are looking for ways to unplug from the social hive mind. The less time spent keeping up with the virtual Joneses means more time with your family and more time for yourself. The script is most effective accompanied with the audio book available at major online retailers. As you listen to the affirmations, the audio will take you through three different hypnosis techniques. The first section of the audiobook focuses on self-hypnosis in a meditative state. The binaural beats induce a relaxed state, helped along by other soothing melodies. The combination of sounds and vibrations help to seep the information into your subconscious mind as you take in each affirmation. The second section is meant for listening before bed. Since information consumed before going to sleep has been shown as easier to recall and digest, the affirmations in the second section are best listened to before or during sleep. They are specifically designed to be tranquil and more mellow than the daytime version. The third section can be listened to either during the day or at night, as they contain subliminal affirmations, binaural beats th ungekürzt. Profile Weathered Ivan Cardinal feels like sitting on a back stoop somewhere watching the light appear and travel the sky and slowly fade away. But it is more than a day. It is a shadowy and luminous journey through many seasons condensed into forty minutes. The album's tracks arcs a reflective and introspective landscape, an intimate look at the struggle of battling the tide of oneself and the outside world. It is a confession of weakness, recognition of futility, all rimmed by a declaration of triumph. Minneapolis songwriter James Waller, in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Jon King, is Weathered Ivan. Each track on Cardinal is a chapter. Each chapter is a conversation someone is having with themselves and the listener is standing in the hallway unbeknownst, witness to the overt meditation. Tracks WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE is a slow, steady, numbing tromp that attempts the impossible escape from oneself. The chorus is a wispy interlude breaking the dark stride, floating like a leaf that near the end of the song spirals intensely, finally resting on the unresolved question of "what do you believe?" THESE WALLS lumbers through a sterile and dark landscape. Percussion like distant thunder rattles as a cello weaves a haunted curtain that drapes the composition in muted light. The resonant whispered vocals plea with the listener to not deny the social inequities existing within the lies broadcasted to the masses. The song ends with the sounds of a child's music box, subtle reminder that the world of possibility is not gone but has been covered by the ash of fires burning. LOVE WE NEED takes a bright departure from the previous tracks, a jilted high-stepping montage of guitar and horns. The instrumental rays of light are during the verses juxtaposed by the story of a tired and defeated self, moving into a chorus of clarity begging to see the 'love we need'. The steady pace of the song feels like someone trying and trying again the same things over in an attempt to reach lucidity, when a commitment to honesty and love is the true antidote to any pain. SOMEDAY is the smoke blown from the mouth of a man with a handlebar moustache, who smiles and beckons to you to see what's behind a stained velvet curtain. The mildly abrasive swing styling, along with a suspicious organ under lay, sends the message that the truth is not evident and cannot manifest itself in anything. The gravely vocals warns the listener of the imminent dumbing down and homogenizing of society. Someday we will all be the same, or someday we'll break free if we can learn to open our eyes. BE HERE TONIGHT rolls in and out like sparkling waves smoothing the edge of a rock. The crisp bright cymbals shuffle the seconds along as the guitar melody lolls gently in the background, punctuated occasionally by light-filtered crystalline rays of piano and organ. The chorus roars in with an admittance of love like a long drawn shade torn from a window. SUN'S LAST RISE is an epic composition of concession. A reflection on the struggles emerging from within and those that push down from the outside. An ominous and dreamy backdrop of guitar and organ provides scenery of lost recesses of the mind. The placid vocals create an assured mixture of acceptance and victory, the song ending with the feeling of being tucked in to bed - peaceful, but never knowing if you'll wake. WHEN'S MY TIME GONNA COME is a determined rock 'n roll song with a punchy backbeat. It moves like a spoked wheel on an asphalt road, propelled round and round by the guitar lines, flashing light and shadow. A slightly twangy track questioning when one will get what's deserved framed in a dusty, yellowish 8mm film-like hue. RAINY NIGHT is red velvet. It is a rose petal brushed across a bruised neck. A lonely, sultry ballad that wanders through basement bars and rain soaked streets. The saxophone plays call and answer to the lamented crooning of a jilted promise of love. It is a wish, a prayer, a confession written with blood on a silk veil. LET THE FIRE BURN is a slow motion high speed chase across a mile long lift bridge at night. The siren sound of the guitar trails blue in the distance as the chase towards another heart takes place. The whispered vocals of the verses are the words of an outlaw, all chances will be taken, the methodic backbeat - the words of a man with nothing to lose. The chorus softly erupts in an illumination of the dark corners of the world, the bridge rising just in time to leave the blue lights behind and the headlights free to seek what it desires. MANUFACTURED METAL is propelled down the line between two chords on the acoustic guitar, the snare drum stamping down the beat. It is the monotonous work of life. The punching in and out of the good and the bad and the perseverance evidenced in the act of putting one foot in front of the other. Electric piano vibrates in the background like sunlight poking through a canopy of trees, only the yellow leaves breaking the plane of vision. With a sudden turn of the head towards a beautiful bird cutting through the light and the shadows, the drone is broken and the listener is released.

This CD was generously funded by an artist development grant from the Ontario Arts Council. Recorded February 2008, St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church (Newmarket, ON) Recording engineer & producer: Norbert Kraft Digital Editing: Lucas Harris Booklet design: Rose Zhao Photography: Terry Williams 13-course Baroque lute after Jauch (Michael Schreiner, 2006) 13-course Baroque lute after Frei (Michael Schreiner, 2001): tracks 3&4 Lucas Harris began his musical life as a jazz guitarist in his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. After graduating summa cum laude from Pomona College, he studied for a year in Milan, Italy as one of the first Marco Fodella Foundation scholars and then at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen. Lucas now keeps a busy schedule as a continuo player for dozens of Baroque ensembles across North America. He is the regular lutenist with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, and has been living in Toronto since early 2004. Lucas is a regular on the faculty for the Oberlin Conservatory's Baroque Performance Institute and the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute, and has also taught for Amherst Early Music, the International Baroque Institute at Longy, and the New York Continuo Collective. He is a founder of the Toronto Continuo Collective, a weekly class and performing 'pluck band' dedicated to the art of seventeenth-century accompaniment. Beyond continuo work, recent solo and directing projects include a concerto program for CBC radio's Young Artist Series, a recital for the Minnesota Guitar Society, a production of Cavalli's La Calisto at Ohio State University, and a program with the Pacific Baroque Orchestra in Vancouver. Lucas was praised for his work with Les voix humaines in Montréal: "The revelation of the concert was the Torontonian lutenist Lucas Harris, who weaved a poetic thread through his infinitely subtle interventions. The sweetness and patience of his playing . . . was astonishing." (Le Devoir) Wen Zhao is an internationally acclaimed pipa virtuoso, a sensitive and lyrical performer. Born in Beijing, she began to study the pipa at the age of seven, eventually completing her university study with the renowned pipa master Wang Fan Di. After winning the first prize at Beijing Youth National Instrument Competition in 1995, Wen continued her musical career in England, performing and teaching Chinese music throughout the U.K. Wen lives in Toronto since 1997, and teaches pipa at both the Royal Conservatory of Music and York University in Toronto. Zhao has appeared at major ethnic music festivals worldwide, including those in China, Switzerland, the U.K., Canada, and the U.S. These appearances deeply impressed the audience and were highly acclaimed by the media: BBC TV, CBC TV, CBC radio and OMNI TV have all broadcasted her solo performances. The Toronto Star and several Chinese media groups have interviewed her to showcase her masterful pipa playing. Beyond her work as a soloist, Zhao has collaborated with some world's top Western ensembles, including Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, London Grand Union Orchestra, and the Accordes String Quartet. She is especially honoured to be one of the featured musicians for the CBC award-winning documentary film The Four Seasons Mosaic. The Duo Wen and Lucas met through the many performances of 'The Four Seasons: A Cycle of the Sun,' a Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra concert/touring program and CBC documentary designed by Tafelmusik bassist Alison Mackay which juxtaposes Vivaldi's famous concerto cycle with other eighteenth-century music about nature from three non-European traditions. This program has toured Canada, the United States, and China. The two decided to embark on a project that would juxtapose the traditions of European and Chinese lute performance: both the many similarities (their common ancestor from the Middle East, their noble social status, their similar shape and design, and that both have a very ancient history and a strong body of surviving repertoire from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries) as well as their differences (especially the astonishing capacity of the pipa's four simple strings for melodic shape, color, and descriptive textures versus the lute's tradition of counterpoint and harmony, supported by many pairs of double courses of strings including deep bass notes). The two have performed duet arrangements in several Toronto venues: on the 'Musically Speaking' series at Trinity Church, the Toronto Harbourfront Music Garden series, and at the Music Gallery in a recital sponsored by Baroque Music Beside the Grange and the Chinese Artists' Society of Toronto. They also performed in China at the Beijing Natural History Museum and the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. They also created the duo program 'Lettres chinoises' which was performed at the Montreal Baroque Festival in July 2008.
