Prävention von Burnout bei Lehrerinnen und Lehrern

Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Pädagogik - Sonstiges, Note: 1,7, Universität Bielefeld, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Depressionen, häufig die letzte Stufe des Burnout-Syndroms als Folge übermäßiger Belastung, werden nach Einschätzungen von Experten bis zum Jahr 2020 das weltweit zweitgrößte Gesundheitsproblem nach Herzerkrankungen darstellen (vgl. WHO 2001, 7). Depressionen und Burnout sollten nicht nur entgegenwirkt werden, weil sie die zweitgrößte Ursache für Arbeitsausfälle und Frühpensionierungen sind, sondern auch, weil Wohlbefinden nach der WHO-Charta als Grundrecht und Entwicklungsziel für jedermann gilt (vgl. Sieland 2000, 35). Mittlerweile wird angenommen, dass Burnout nicht nur in sozialen, sondern in allen Berufen auftreten kann. Immer mehr Arbeitgeber gestehen den Beschäftigten ein Sabbatical zu. Ist der Arbeitsplatz im Allgemeinen zu stressig, kommt nur noch Downshifting in Betracht. Ob sich hinter diesen Maßnahmen jedoch nur aktuelle Trends oder auch längerfristige Erholungsmöglichkeiten für einen Großteil der Bevölkerung verbergen, wird sich noch zeigen. Dabei ist Burnout - auch im Lehrerberuf - nichts Neues. Der Begriff wurde erstmals 1974 vom deutschamerikanischen Psychologen Herbert Freudenberger in einem psychologischen Kontext verwendet (vgl. Schmid 2003, 25). Doch bereits 1911 wurde in einem Artikel aus dem Oberpfälzer Schulanzeiger über eine Lehrerkrankheit namens Neurasthenie berichtet, deren Symptome wie Erschöpfung, verminderte Leistungsfähigkeit und Angstgefühle dem modernen Burnout-Syndrom stark ähneln (vgl. Barth 1992, 13-14 und Schmid 2003, 24). Das nicht mehr steuerlich absetzbare häusliche Arbeitszimmer (vgl. Simon 2007), Zeitarbeitsverträge für junge Lehrer, die teilweise vor den Sommerferien entlassen und zum Beginn des neuen Schuljahres bei derselben Schule wieder eingestellt werden (vgl. Grüter 2008) sowie Überlegungen der niedersächsischen Kultusministerin Heister-Neumann zur Verschiebung des Überstunden-Ausgleiches (vgl. Berger 2008) stellen aktuelle in den Medien diskutierte Belastungen von Lehrern dar. Ebenso wird häufig über die hohe Burnout- und Frühpensionierungs-Quote im Lehrerberuf berichtet. Als Gründe werden oft destruktives Schülerverhalten und die zum Umgang hiermit fehlenden Ausbildungsangebote genannt, zugleich immer ,schwierigere' Kinder und weniger intakte Familien (vgl. Tscharnke 2001, 16). Auch über die Prävention von Stress und Burnout im Allgemeinen existiert eine große Menge an populärwissenschaftlicher Literatur, vor allem über Entspannungstechniken.
