Gaslighting is one of the most devastating tools that exists in the narcissist’s arsenal. If you have been subjected to gaslighting by a skilled narcissist, it is no doubt that you have suffered significant PTSD, Complex PTSD, Cassandra Syndrome, Battered Person Syndrome, and more. You were led to believe that you were damaged, crazy, psychotic, etc. You were led there by someone who was much sicker than you were. Gaslighting is dangerous and devastating. Those who know about gaslighting and who have been subjected to it know all too well how damaging it is to one’s psyche. It is a form of psychological warfare and abuse that is used to torture prisoners of war and more. Narcissists learn gaslighting early on, as they are often subject to gaslighting by their own parents, peers, mentors, teachers, coaches, and more. Many children who are subjected to gaslighting have also undergone a significant amount of other means of abuse. A large number of adults were abused as children, physically, emotionally, and sexually. Most of them have never come forward to face their abuser, and thus they have never received any type of validation for the abuse that they suffered at the hands of another. These abused children were gaslighted to believe that the abuse they were suffering was normal. They were told that the abuse shown to them was "love". Thus, they began to confuse "love" with abuse and confuse abuse with "love". They were told "tough love" was as valuable as unconditional love, when the two cannot even be used to describe the same types of actions or words. Most of these adults harbor secrets long into their adulthood They suffer from wounds that have never been treated or discussed with a mental health advocate. They suffer in silence just as you might be suffering in silence with your current gaslighting experience. They were molested. They were bullied. These abused and exploited children were told that all actions existed in ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Pete Beretta. Most people think that gaslighting is very recent. We think that it became viral with Trump. We don’t know much about history or its leaders to recognize that other American leaders (and leaders of other countries) have gaslit the people beneath them since the dawn of creation. We don’t recognize that most of the gaslighters have a genetic propensity for gaslighting (DRD4 long gene polymorphism). Nor do we recognize that gaslighters will become more and more prevalent in our environment. Psychologists and psychiatrists will tell you there isn’t much literature or studies on gaslighting. The real lessons in gaslighting are found in history books. They are found in politics. The lessons are found in philosophy. They are found in the psychological disorders that caused people to be institutionalized by others; women locked up with hysteria from the men who were vying for control over them. The truth is that gaslighting has been around since the beginning of time in one way or another. The tactics used in gaslighting have been used to win wars and establish kingdoms. Gaslighting has been used to establish entire religions, and to drive inhabitants out of their countries. Gaslighting was used by Columbus in his interactions with Spain’s leaders to convince them to fund his travels in search of gold. The tactics have been used to drive people to commit suicide, homicide and genocide. The tactics have been used to establish pecking orders in families and in groups of people. Gaslighting tactics are used in companies to maintain control....Download now to hear more. ungekürzt. As defined in psychoanalysis & psychotherapy, gaslighting is the act of trying "to cause another individual to doubt his/her own judgments and perceptions". The name is inspired by a famous Ingrid Bergman movie in which she is slowly driven insane by her husband. A common method of gaslighting is known as the "double-whammy", in which the gaslighter puts down the victim, waits for the victim's response, and then attacks the victim's judgment, perspective or questioning of the original attack. The term "gaslighting" comes from the 1938 British play Gas Light wherein a husband attempts to drive his wife crazy using a variety of tricks causing her to question her own perceptions and sanity. Gas Light was made into a move both in 1940 and 1944. It's a powerful way for manipulators to maintain control over others, especially if the person subjected to this treatment has less-than-robust self-esteem. In many cases, the gaslighter does this to help himself feel better by making someone else feel worse. Gaslighting is hard to admit. At the extremes, these behaviors qualify as emotional abuse. But even less egregious versions of gaslighting are insensitive, boorish or just plain sexist. The irony is that many people engaging in these behaviors especially milder forms may not even realize it. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Neil Reeves.
