Thirty Five Letters from Vietnam , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 74min
This book consists of 35 letters that I wrote to my aunt while I was serving in Vietnam from October of 1967 1968. The letters contain my thoughts as a young Marine and continued through the end of my tour where I was still young but far more experienced. The letters came to me when my aunt mailed them to me 33 years after Vietnam. One of her comments was she believed that I should have the letters published. My thoughts were that they were too personal to be published and would not be of any benefit to anyone. It is my opinion now that these letters might hold some insight into the young people that are in current times serving their country. It seems we all share a lot of commonalities, and I am hopeful that men and women who are serving at this time will draw some comfort from these letters. I'm also hopeful these letters will inspire others who will face difficulties after their tours to meet the challenge of readjusting. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Billy Whisenant. As suddenly as Death, the bitter cold came, and with it, the armored tanks, sleek submarines, and mailed warriors of the invading legions! Almost Mortal , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 518min
Emerging criminal defense attorney Sam Young has always known he had a gift. Or a curse. He thinks of them as minor psychic abilities. When Sam is hired by an attractive young nun named Camille Paradisi, he agrees to help discover the identity of a serial killer in order to prevent Camille's pastor from being exposed for not reporting the man after a confession - thereby allowing another murder to occur. While Sam's psychic abilities increase as he investigates the case and gets closer to Camille, he realizes that the enigmatic nun is not revealing the complete truth. Camille shares an old journal anonymously mailed to the church, which she believes may have been authored by the killer/confessor. The journal, which begins in Argentina in the 1940s, purports to tell the life story of a man with mind control and other special powers who claims to be a descendant of the fallen angels cast out of heaven by God. As Sam learns more about the murders, the journal author, and Camille, he begins to realize the so called "Rosslyn Ripper" case may have ancient implications beyond his imagination. ungekürzt. Industrial Society and Its Future: The Unabomber Manifesto , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 241min
In the 1990s, several bombs were mailed to locations across the US and detonated. The bomber was Ted Kaczynski, known to the FBI as "The Unabomber".Calling himself FC (Freedom Club), Kaczynski sent a political manifesto to prominent newspapers, threatening to continue his crime spree if his message was not published. The FBI recommended publication in the hopes that some reader might pick up a clue to the bomber's identity. The consensus on the manifesto itself, separated from its grisly origins, is that it paints an oddly compelling description of how modern technological society is rapidly encroaching on our freedoms and happiness. It proclaims that mankind will not be happy unless we cast off all technology since the industrial revolution and return to a pre-industrial society. Only then, FC claims, will our lifestyles be in sync with our biological needs; only then, will the tensions and stresses of the modern world evaporate. We offer this published version of Kaczynski's manifesto not to endorse its ideas or its author, but to acknowledge its status as an important historical document. Additionally, this manifesto has become something of a classic in political thought and is required reading on some university campuses. We seek to provide an audiobook version for these students. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Michael Parson. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/230416/bk_acx0_230416_sample.mp3. Time Zone J
A wormhole into a fleeting romance told in a mind-bending first-person chorus Time Zone J is Julie Doucet's first inked comic since she famously quit in the nineties after an exhausting career in an industry that, at the time, made little room for women. The year is 1989 and twenty-three-year-old Doucet is flying to France to meet with a soldier. He's a man she only knows through their mail correspondence, a common enough reality of the zine era, when comics were mailed from cartoonist to reader and close relationships were formed. Time is not on their side-the soldier is just on furlough for a few days-but the two make the most of their visit and discuss future plans, maybe even Christmas in Doucet's city, Montreal. Based on diary entries from the whirlwind romance, the passion and high emotions of youth-before you know the limits of love, before you know the difference between love and lust-seep through the pages. In contrast to the tryst, Doucet draws herself today, at fifty-five. After years of being in a crowd of men, Doucet compulsively returns to drawing, creating an alternate universe that foregrounds women. The pages of Time Zone J overflow with images pulled from past and present, faces and people that have inspired Doucet across more than three decades of creative work.- Shop: buecher

Louder: We Can't Hear You (Yet!), The Political Poems of Marge Piercy, Hörbuch, Digital, 62min
Scribbled on walls, e-mailed to friends, posted on the web, recited in rallies from coast to coast, Marge Piercy's political poems have become anthems for social change. Louder, the first collection of her political poetry, brings us over sixty minutes of beloved poems in Piercy's own voice. Performing old favorites such as "To be of use," "For strong women," and "The low road;" as well as new ones including "No one came home," an elegy for 9/11, "Choices," about the occupation of Iraq, and "Sneak and Peek," her hilarious response to the Patriot Act, Piercy delivers 26 poems that give voice to our outrage, our passion, our utter disbelief and desire for peace. Kidnapped: The Tragic Life of J. Paul Getty III , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 562min
Previously published as Uncommon Youth, Charles Fox's Kidnapped examines the glamorous life, gilded family, and tragic times of J. Paul Getty III, whose kidnapping made headlines in 1973. J. Paul ("Little Paul") Getty III, the grandson of Getty Oil founder J. Paul Getty, may have been cursed by money and privilege from the moment he was born. Falling in with the wrong people and practically abandoned by his famous family, Getty was a child of his international jet-set era, moving from Marrakesh to Rome, nightclubs to well-appointed drug dens. His high-profile kidnapping defined the decade - and was permanently memorable for the ear that was mailed to his mother as evidence of the kidnappers' intentions. Kidnapped is richly reported and includes many interviews with Getty himself, conducted from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, that raise new angles about the case. How much did Getty acquiesce to the kidnappers? Why wouldn't his rich-as-Croesus grandfather pay the ransom, which began at the equivalent of $550,000 in lire and bulged to 3.6 million as the months dragged on? Charles Fox began following and researching this story in the days shortly after Getty's disappearance. This fascinating audiobook captures the voices of models and maids, mistresses and mothers, carabinieri and club owners, drug dealers and drivers, alongside the Getty family members themselves to paint an evocative portrait of an era and one of its most misunderstood participants. ungekürzt.
