Who Am I?: Yoga, Psychedelics & the Quest for Enlightenment , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 958min
Far more than a mere history of the practice of yoga and beyond a study of psychedelic-substance use to aid the pursuit of enlightenment, Who Am I? is a broad, expansive journey told through the eyes of a scholar and researcher - a pilgrim in search of the meaning of life. While the use of psychedelics, yoga, and the interrelatedness of the two practices have been discussed in the past, Who Am I? explores these topics through both a scientific and a personal approach that is altogether new - the author’s own journey as he transitions from spiritual and yoga purist to open-minded examiner in the realization that psychedelics have been employed by yoga practitioners throughout its history. Does their controversial use in modern yoga ease the path to spiritual clarity, or does it hinder it?Many questions and barriers face contemporary seekers of truth in the areas of psychedelics, yoga, and general spirituality. In Who Am I?, author Allowah Lani provides guidance on how to find the personal answers that must come from within. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Mitch Feldhandler. To the Best of Our Knowledge: Psychedelics, Hörbuch, Digital, 52min
In this hour, when Timothy Leary invited everyone to "turn on, tune in, drop out" in the Sixties, it captured the public's imagination, but it was also bad news for scientists who wanted to study the effects of psychedelics. It's taken decades for study of mind-altering drugs to be taken seriously. Now a handful of scientists are at the forefront of new research. One of them is Roland Griffiths is a neuroscientist at Johns Hopkins. He's just turned his attention to psilocybin, a classic hallucinogen commonly known as magic mushrooms. He tells Steve Paulson about his findings. Then, after an excerpt from an interview with Aldous Huxley from 1958 about his use of mescaline, we take a look at other mystical experiences. Stefanie Syman explores how to achieve them without drugs. The author of The Subtle Body: The Story of Yoga in America tells Jim Fleming that today's scientific study of psychedelics could lead to new breakthroughs.Next, in 1971 Terrence McKenna, a philosopher and ethnobotanist set out with his brother Dennis to travel the Amazon in search of drug-induced visionary experiences. That wild adventure led to a lifelong study of hallucinogens. Though Terrence died ten years ago, Dennis McKenna, now a botanist and lecturer at the University of Minnesota's Center for Spirituality and Healing, continues the quest. He tells Steve Paulson how shamanistic cultures use hallucinogens. And we hear a clip from Annie Levy who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In the late stages she took part in an experimental study designed to see if taking psilocybin could help with the fear and panic about dying. In her case, taking a single dose was a life-changing experience in her final months. The groundbreaking study was the project of Charles Grob, a psychiatrist at the UCLA medical school, who tells Anne Strainchamps about his research on psychedelics. The Psilocybin Connection: Psychedelics, the Transformation of Consciousness, and Evolution on the Planet-- An Integral Approach
A comprehensive guide to psilocybin mushrooms and their impact on our psychology, biology, and social development. How-and why-do psychedelics exist? Did psilocybin catalyze our early human ancestors' social evolution? And how can an integral understanding of psychedelics quite literally change the world? In an ambitious and comprehensive look at psilocybin-and an inside look at how humanity co-evolved alongside "magic" mushrooms-Jahan Khamsehzadeh, PhD, explores our historical and ancestral relationship to psychedelics and presents new and exciting research about what psilocybin can mean for us today. Separated into three sections-Present, Past, and Future-The Psilocybin Connection advances our understanding of psychedelics in unexpected and original ways. Khamsehzadeh shares compelling research that suggests how naturally occurring psychedelics may have played an essential role in humanity's social, cultural, and linguistic evolution. Supported by archaeological evidence, neuroscience, and academic studies, he explores how mushrooms gave rise to art and expression, impacted spiritual experiences, and even spurred human brain development. Blending the most comprehensive and up-to-date synthesis of psilocybin research with stories of his own and others' psychedelic awakenings, Khamsehzadeh moves our understanding of the psychedelic mushroom forward toward a fresh, hopeful, and exciting future.- Shop: buecher
