Written for piano and a small ensemble, it has a very unique sound and character. Its musical material comes from exotic birds, whose calls are heard in the piano part as well as in the ensemble. »Orion« by Claude Vivier, after all, refers with its very title to the entire universe, a perennial source of inspiration for the Canadian composer, who assumed that man´s »inner spaces« are a reflection of the universe.
