Cold Water / Sean Duffy Bd.7

The Cobweb , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 976min
From his triumphant debut with Snow Crash to the stunning success of his latest novel, Quicksilver, Neal Stephenson has quickly become the voice of a generation. In this now-classic political thriller, he and fellow author J. Frederick George tell a savagely witty, chillingly topical tale set in the tense moments of the Gulf War. When a foreign exchange student is found murdered at an Iowa University, Deputy Sheriff Clyde Banks finds that his investigation extends far beyond the small college town, all the way to the Middle East. Shady events at the school reveal that a powerful department is using federal grant money for highly dubious research. And what its producing is a very nasty bug. Navigating a plot that leads from his own backyard to Washington, D.C., to the Gulf, where his Army Reservist wife has been called to duty, Banks realizes he may be the only person who can stop the wholesale slaughtering of thousands of Americans. Its a lesson in foreign policy he'll never forget. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Marc Vietor. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/adbl/002170/bk_adbl_002170_sample.mp3.
Jana Wochnik-Sachtleben. https://samples.audible.de/bk/edel/014055/bk_edel_014055_sample.mp3.- Shop: Audible

Thirteen Soldiers: A Personal History of Americans at War , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 823min
John McCain’s evocative history of Americans at war, told through the personal accounts of 13 remarkable soldiers who fought in major military conflicts, from the Revolutionary War of 1776 to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As a veteran himself, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and a long-time student of history, John McCain brings a distinctive perspective to this subject. Thirteen Soldiers tells the stories of real soldiers through the years who personify an essential characteristic of combat, from valor, savagery, and terror to obedience, enterprise, and love. You’ll meet Joseph Plumb Martin, who at the tender age of 15 fought in the Revolutionary War; Charles Black, a freeborn African American sailor in the War of 1812; and Sam Chamberlain, of the Mexican American War, whose life inspired novelist Cormac McCarthy. Then there’s Oliver Wendell Holmes, an aristocratic idealist disillusioned by the Civil War, and Littleton “Tony” Waller, court-martialed for refusing to massacre Filipino civilians. Each account illustrates a particular aspect of war, such as Mary Rhoads, an Army reservist forever changed by an Iraqi scud missile attack during the Persian Gulf War, and Monica Lin Brown, a frontline medic in rural Afghanistan who saved several lives in an ambushed convoy. From their acts of self-sacrifice to their astonishing bravery, the 13 soldiers profiled here embody the best America has to offer. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: John McCain. Duty to Investigate , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 450min
As a successful trial lawyer, Mike Beck uses his personality and his skill with the letter of the law to win in a courtroom. As a Marine Reservist ordered to Iraq on an unexpected deployment, he finds himself in a different world where the law of war often conflicts with common sense and his own feel for what's right and what's wrong. When an embedded female correspondent reveals what appears to be an illegal killing of Iraqi civilians by a U.S. Marine during the battle for Fallujah, Beck finds himself faced with a case that challenges both his legal skills and his conviction that something is very wrong with what seems to be a clear violation of the law of land warfare. Devoted to finding the truth about an ugly incident and keeping an innocent Marine from being convicted in a court-martial, Mike Beck defies orders, purloins evidence, and leads a combat team that must fight their way through a fanatical enemy force to investigate the scene of the alleged crime. Along the way as he battles his conscience, command influence, and a media giant clamoring for his head, Mike Beck finds a lot of truth about the case, about the brutal enemy in Iraq, about the nature of a very nasty war, about the Marines risking their lives in a confusing combat situation-and about himself as a Marine, a lawyer, and a man. ungekürzt. All the Tea , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 433min
The U.S. and China have emerged in the millennium as the pre-eminent superpowers. Japan and the U.S. have worked in secret at a disused nuclear safety research center on a remote island in the South China Sea to perfect a viable nuclear fusion reactor. Suddenly, the black veil of secrecy is shredded, the long-shot project is on the verge of breakthrough, and the Chinese want the prize for themselves. Desert Storm combat-veteran Commander Ben McGuire, a small SEAL team, and an isolated group of scientists struggle with sabotage, typhoon weather, a rapidly approaching and extremely well equipped Chinese fleet, and a radical new reactor that some of the scientists are terrified of shutting down. Ben McGuire, a battle-proven Naval officer, left active duty to save his marriage. In civilian life he works as a computer consultant. When the story heats up, he is serving out his annual two-week hitch aboard the Seventh Fleet Commander's flagship a few hundred miles away in the Sea of Japan. Thinking it a low priority issue, Navy officials dispatch the Reservist to run a mission to evacuate scientists from a nearby island. Events on the island will not only reunite him with an old love interest but also place him in a position to affect the balance of power between the U.S. and China for years to come. For Mature Audiences Only: Explicit language and situational violence. Must be 18 years of age to purchase. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Walter Koenig, Full Cast.

Making Lemonade from Life’s Lemons , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 134min
In Making Lemonade from Life’s Lemons, the author chronicles his life from birth to the present. The author gives a raw account of some traumatic events in his past and how he overcame them. He owes his deliverance to the Lord and his wife of 12 years. The author had a hard time growing up and became sexually addicted at the age of 12. Drinking began at an early age, and he began using drugs as a teenager. Ron went into the army at age 17 hoping to escape his problems, but they ended up catching up to him. He was released from the army because of his issues. When he was 20, the author rededicated his life to the Lord. Within a few years, he found himself slipping back into his old patterns of behavior. He called it “working on his testimony”. It was during this time he was in and out of church. Years later, he got back in the army as a reservist. He traveled to foreign countries. His drinking got pretty bad, and he started using crack cocaine. He knew he was better than that when it came to drugs, but crack took control of him, and he did not see a way out. One day, he defended his friend’s honor and was arrested as a result. After he was released from jail, his friend took him home with her. They married a few months later. She told him if he did crack again, she would call the sheriff. He and his wife got plugged into church and ministry. The author should have died on more than one occasion. God had a plan, though. He revealed that plan to him a couple of years ago. He is at peace with God’s plan for him to be a pastor. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Barry Clifton.
