    Wie ich schon häufiger berichtete, gab es Fälle während meiner Zeit mit Sherlock Holmes, die ich sehr gerne veröffentlicht hätte. Doch standen dieser Absicht Gründe entgegen, die dies unmöglich machten. Manchmal kam es auch vor, dass nachfolgende Generationen ausdrücklich darum baten, die Erlebnisse gedruckt vorzufinden; als Warnung an andere, nicht die gleichen, oft törichten Fehler zu begehen. Natürlich überraschten uns solche Bitten, doch kamen wir ihnen nach abgesehen von jenen wenigen Jahren, in denen mir Holmes verbot, weitere Fälle zu veröffentlichen.
