Surveys indicate that 84 percent of Christians have a misunderstanding of the true meaning of the word righteousness. Referring to God's restoration of our sinfulness and not personal piety or some code of moral purity, pastor Chris Seay offers that Jesus came to breathe life and light into the depths of all darkness. This gospel that lives according to the ways of Christ is the true Christianity. It gives us a new way to see the world and brings God's restoration to marriages, to the sick and diseased, even to the environment, and he offers a deeply personal spiritual transformation for all followers of Christ. Whether it's building a park bench at a bus stop or bringing groceries to the sick, the gospel of Jesus restores the heart, the mind, and the body. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Chris Seay. Ex-priest Stephen H. Donnelly’s memoir, A Saint and a Sinner, is an immersive experience into the world of a Catholic priest and a brutally honest account of Stephen’s journey of sinfulness. At age 42, Stephen was ordained a Roman Catholic priest. As he stood before God, the bishop, and the congregation, he made promises he struggled to keep. Three years into his priesthood, he descended into a world of cocaine and alcohol abuse. Fellow priests intervened, and after multiple stints in rehab, Stephen turned his life around and became well-known in Alcoholics Anonymous circles as the “Irish priest with a problem". During his seven years as Associate Pastor of St. Patrick’s Church, Huntington, New York, he became known among parishioners as a “rock star”. They were among the best years of his priesthood. He was Stephen: the man, the Catholic, and the priest at his absolute best. But in 2018, while assigned to a new parish, the unthinkable happened, and it threatened to destroy everything he held dear. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Wallace. If sacraments are to create unity, why do they cause so much division? Fr. Fragomeni responds by posing three questions: Why do we celebrate the Eucharist? What are we doing? Specifically in the Catholic Church, why is there division since there is such universal love of the Eucharist? He addresses disagreements over kneeling or standing, location of the tabernacle, communion in the hand, and the presence of the communion rail. These practices evoke different responses, depending on whether Eucharistic worship is seen as a gift or a sacrifice. But both themes are woven together in Christian history and cannot be isolated. Fr. Fragomeni passionately reminds all that in the midst of our attitudinal differences, we are transforming humanity into divinity: "We come to Eucharist as a divided people, with sinfulness and a bias to others." In Eucharist, we need to give God the "access code" to our hearts and become the living Body of Christ, formed into a people undivided. This presentation was recorded before a live audience at the 2000 Los Angeles Religious Education Congress. Language: English. Narrator: Richard Fragomeni. Far too many Catholics have had painful experiences in the Church, and many have simply opted to walk away. Fr. Berg opens his audiobook with the story of the painful and life-changing crisis he experienced in the Church that ultimately, against the odds, led him to love the Church more intensely notwithstanding the sinfulness of its members. Along with his own story, Fr. Berg intertwines the stories of other Catholics who have themselves experienced life-changing hurts, but who, in Jesus, found healing. Riding the momentum of the Year of Mercy, Fr. Berg offers these reflections as a necessary examination of conscience, and a clarion call to Catholics to become healers of an ailing inner culture of our Church, and to heed Pope Francis' call to incite a revolution of tenderness in our faith communities.  Ultimately, this audiobook is about hope for wounded believers: If you have been hurt in the Church, Jesus can take you on a journey through your wounds, a journey of healing that will make you an even better human being, a better Christian, and a better disciple. ungekürzt. How do you understand Grace and sin? How are they spiritually connected? In the Western church, the understanding of grace, sin, and God's good creation has been shaped by theologians responding to the challenges specific to their times while using the resources of theology, philosophy, and personal religious experience. With the help of Father Brian McDermott, SJ, and this series of fifteen 25-minute lectures, you will be able to address these and other questions as well as gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of God's grace. In this program you will explore the ways that God works in our lives to draw us closer to the divine mystery, to forgive our sinfulness in a transformative way, and to liberate us for generous service in the world. Theologians and great thinkers from the Apostle Paul to St. Thomas Aquinas to contemporary philosophers such as Karl Rahner will all have parts in this journey to fully understanding the concept of God's grace and its role in our lives every day. This program will help you feel more in touch with your inner grace and help you grapple with the challenging ideas of grace and sin in the world. Fr. McDermott does a remarkable job of opening your mind to the history of past theological debates on these terms while helping you find in your heart what you truly believe. Language: English. There are three great motives that urge us to humility: It becomes me as a creature, as a sinner, as a saint. The first we see in the heavenly hosts, in unfallen man, in Jesus as son of man. The second appeals to us in our fallen state and points out the only way through which we can return to our right place as creatures. In the third, we have the mystery of grace, which teaches us that as we lose ourselves in the overwhelming greatness of redeeming love, humility becomes to us the consummation of everlasting blessedness and adoration. In our ordinary religious teaching, the second aspect has been too exclusively put in the foreground, so that some have even gone to the extreme of saying that we must keep sinning if we are indeed to keep humble. Others again have thought that the strength of self-condemnation is the secret of humility. And the Christian life has suffered loss, where believers have not been distinctly guided to see that even in our relation as creatures, nothing is more natural and beautiful and blessed than to be nothing, that God may be all; or where it has not been made clear that it is not sin that humbles most, but grace, and that it is the soul, led through its sinfulness to be occupied with God in his wonderful glory as God, as creator and redeemer, that will truly take the lowest place before him. In these meditations I have, for more than one reason, almost exclusively directed attention to the humility that becomes us as creatures. It is not only that the connection between humility and sin is so abundantly set forth in all our religious teaching, but because I believe that for the fullness of the Christian life, it is indispensable that prominence be given to the other aspect. ungekürzt.
