Shared Too: Threesome Romance , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 408min, (USK 18)
Shared Too is a sequel to Lily Harlem's popular ménage a trois novel Shared. Ten years on, I'm still convinced I'm the luckiest woman on earth. Two devastatingly gorgeous husbands committed to my satisfaction - phew - life doesn't get much better or much sexier. But as though the mere concept of a perfect existence was created to be shattered, one day Quinn turned to me and said, "Shared too. I want to be shared too." Add in the monster that haunted my nightmares and I was struggling to keep a grip on my sanity. I soon realized the path Quinn wanted us to travel would stretch not only his experience of giving and taking, but also mine and Liam's. In a whirlwind of desperate emotions, dark desires, and erotic fantasy, we were all so distant but also so sublimely close. Sharing had never been as sweet as it was bitter, or as depraved as it was heavenly. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sasha White. Healing with Great Music, Hörbuch, Digital, 136min
How the World's Great Music Can Inspire Your Heart and Your Health More than 2,000 years ago, the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras suggested that the human soul could be perfected through sublimely composed music. On Healing with Great Music, you will explore the phenomenal effects of sound on human physiology. Don Campbell, author of The Mozart Effect, unveils new insights about the layer of information within music that does not necessarily meet the ear yet has profound implications for enhancing health and intelligence. Buried Alive, Hörbuch, Digital, 351min
Buried Alive (1908) is a witty satire by Arnold Bennett about a shy painter. Excerpt from the book:"The peculiar angle of the earth's axis to the plane of the ecliptic - that angle which is chiefly responsible for our geography and therefore for our history - had caused the phenomenon known in London as summer. The whizzing globe happened to have turned its most civilized face away from the sun, thus producing night in Selwood Terrace, South Kensington.No. 91 was one of about ten thousand similar houses between South Kensington Station and North End Road. With its grimy stucco front, its cellar kitchen, its hundred stairs and steps, its perfect inconvenience, and its conscience heavy with the doing to death of sundry general servants, it uplifted tin chimney-cowls to heaven and gloomily awaited the day of judgment for London houses, sublimely ignoring the axial and orbital velocities of the earth. You felt that No. 91 was unhappy." Language: English. Narrator: David Beed. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/edel/010128/bk_edel_010128_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.- Shop: Audible

Nomadland (eBook, ePUB)
ACADEMY AWARD WINNER: Best Picture, Best Director & Best Actress Starring Oscar winner Frances McDormand & directed by Chloé Zhao ¿'Sublimely written' Sunday Times 'Scorching, beautifully written, vivid, disturbing (and occasionally wryly funny)' Rebecca Solnit Nomadland tells a revelatory tale of the dark underbelly of the American economy - one which foreshadows the precarious future that may await many more of us. At the same time, it celebrates the exceptional resilience and creativity of people who have given up ordinary rootedness to survive, but have not given up hope. From the beetroot fields of North Dakota to the campgrounds of California to Amazon's CamperForce program in Texas, employers have discovered a new, low-cost labour pool, made up largely of transient older adults. These invisible casualties of the Great Recession have taken to the road by the tens of thousands in RVs and modified vans, forming a growing community of nomads. What a Father Leaves , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 43min
What a Father Leaves is the story of two men, father and son - each stubborn and determined in his own way, each facing the trials of life with a particular determination - and the way they come to understand and respect each other. This essay and several others can be found in Revere Beach Elegy: A Memoir of Home and Beyond. Michael Upchurch of the Seattle Times said "Revere Beach Elegy is an autobiography in 10 essays that is sublimely refreshing in its love and generosity. Merullo's prose, as he outlines the worlds he cherishes, has a luminous subtlety that brings alive rich layers of feeling in an immediate intelligible manner. His eye stays intently trained on how we guide ourselves through life." "Revere Beach Elegy is a smart and moving meditation on social class, boundaries and mobility...and much more," said Ray Suarez of NPR and The Washington Post. And, the Chicago Tribune had this to say about the memoir, "Merullo has a knack for rendering emotional complexities, paradoxes, or impasses in a mere turn of the phrase." ungekürzt. C , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 840min
C follows the short, intense life of Serge Carrefax, a man who – as his name suggests – surges into the electric modernity of the early 20th century, transfixed by the technologies that will obliterate him. Born to the sound of one of the very earliest experimental wireless stations, Serge finds himself steeped in a weird world of transmissions, whose very air seems filled with cryptic and poetic signals of all kinds. When personal loss strikes him in his adolescence, this world takes on a darker and more morbid aspect. What follows is a stunning tour de force in which the eerily idyllic settings of pre-war Europe give way to the exhilarating flight-paths of the frontline aeroplane radio operator, then the prison camps of Germany, the drug-fuelled London of the roaring 20s and, finally, the ancient tombs of Egypt. Reminiscent of Bolaño, Beckett, and Pynchon, this is a remarkable novel - a compelling, sophisticated, and sublimely imaginative book uncovering the hidden codes and dark rhythms that sustain life. ungekürzt. The Seven Good Years: A Memoir , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 213min
A brilliant, life-affirming, and hilarious memoir from a "genius" (The New York Times) and master storyteller. The seven years between the birth of Etgar Keret's son and the death of his father were good years, though still full of reasons to worry. Lev is born in the midst of a terrorist attack. Etgar's father gets cancer. The threat of constant war looms over their home and permeates daily life. What emerges from this dark reality is a series of sublimely absurd ruminations on everything from Etgar's three-year-old son's impending military service to the terrorist mind-set behind Angry Birds. There's Lev's insistence that he is a cat, releasing him from any human responsibilities or rules. Etgar's siblings, all very different people who have chosen radically divergent paths in life, come together after his father's shivah to experience the grief and love that tie a family together forever. This wise, witty memoir - Etgar's first nonfiction book published in America, and told in his inimitable style - is full of wonder and life and love, poignant insights, and irrepressible humor. ungekürzt. Kazuo Shinohara
One of the greatest and most influential architects of Japan's postwar generation, Kazuo Shinohara (1925-2006) has remained virtually unknown outside the small community of devoted followers. As one of the leaders of architectural movement Metabolism, Shinohara achieved cult-figure stature with sublimely beautiful, purist houses that break away from Japan's postwar suburban architecture. Perhaps the most iconic of Shinohara's works, House of White (1964-66) rearranges a familiar design palette-a square plan, a pointed roof, white walls, and a symbolic heart pillar-to give the almost oceanic spaciousness through abstraction. The underlying formalism in Shinohara's architecture-its basic explorations of geometry and color-lend his work a poetic quality that fuses simplicity and surprise, the ordered and the unexpected. This volume brings together new scholarship from the foremost specialists on Shinohara and Japan's modern architecture. New perspectives and historical frameworks range from the development of the small house as a building type in postwar Japan to Shinohara's engagement with French critical theory. Hitherto unpublished archival drawings and personal travel photographs by Shinohara complement the essays.- Shop: buecher
