Some of us are more equal than others....Meet Stanley Huang: father, husband, ex-husband, man of unpredictable tastes and temper, aficionado of all-inclusive vacations and bargain luxury goods, newly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. For years, Stanley has claimed that he’s worth a small fortune. But the time is now coming when the details of his estate will finally be revealed, and Stanley’s family is nervous. For his son Fred, the inheritance Stanley has long alluded to would soothe the pain caused by years of professional disappointment. By now, the Harvard Business School graduate had expected to be a financial tech god - not a minor investor at a middling corporate firm, where he isn’t even allowed to fly business class.Stanley’s daughter, Kate, is a middle manager with one of Silicon Valley’s most prestigious tech companies. She manages the capricious demands of her world-famous boss and the needs of her two young children all while supporting her would-be entrepreneur husband (just until his startup gets off the ground, which will surely be soon). But lately, Kate has been sensing something amiss; just because you say you have it all, it doesn’t mean that you actually do.Stanley’s second wife, Mary Zhu, 28 years his junior, has devoted herself to making her husband comfortable in every way - rubbing his feet, cooking his favorite dishes, massaging his ego. But lately, her commitment has waned; caring for a dying old man is far more difficult than she expected. Linda Liang, Stanley’s first wife, knows her ex better than anyone. She worked hard for decades to ensure their financial security, and is determined to see her children get their due. Single for nearly a decade, she might finally be ready for some romantic companionship. But where does a 72-year-old Chinese woman in California go to find an appropriate boyfriend? As Stanley’s death approaches, the Huangs are faced with unexpected challenges that ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Joy Osmanski. The Hunting of the Snark , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 31min
The Hunting of the Snark (An Agony in 8 Fits) is a poem written by English writer Lewis Carroll. It is typically categorized as a nonsense poem. Written from 1874 to 1876, the poem borrows the setting, some creatures, and eight portmanteau words from Carroll's earlier poem "Jabberwocky" in his children's novel Through the Looking Glass (1871). As for the word "Snark", Carroll did not give it any meaning. The word "snarking" had been used in 1866 to describe a sound. Henry Holiday, the illustrator of the poem, thought of it as a "tragedy". The plot follows a crew of 10 trying to hunt the Snark, an animal which may turn out to be a highly dangerous Boojum. The only one of the crew to find the Snark quickly vanishes, leading the narrator to explain that it was a Boojum after all. The poem is dedicated to young Gertrude Chataway, whom Carroll met at the English seaside town Sandown in the Isle of Wight in 1875. Included with many copies of the first edition of the poem was Carroll's religious tract, "An Easter Greeting to Every Child Who Loves 'Alice'". "The Hunting of the Snark" was published by Macmillan in the United Kingdom in late March 1876, with illustrations by Henry Holiday. It had mixed reviews from reviewers who found it strange. The first printing of "The Hunting of the Snark" consisted of 10,000 copies. There were two reprintings by the conclusion of the year; in total, the poem was reprinted 17 times between 1876 and 1908. Carroll often denied knowing the meaning behind the poem; however, in an 1896 reply to one letter, he agreed with one interpretation of the poem as an allegory for the search for happiness. Scholars have found various meanings in the poem, among them existential angst, an allegory for tuberculosis, and a mockery of the Tichborne case. "The Hunting of the Snark" has been alluded to in various works and has been adapted for musicals, opera, plays, and music. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Pierre Moreau. Being God: Stealing God's Power, Glory, and Kingdom , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 251min
Exposing man's failure to live under God's ownership. Even though we acknowledge God as owner of the universe and ourselves, we do not live out that belief in our daily lives. C. S. Lewis and others alluded to God's ownership and acknowledged it, but this is the first work to explore the details and explain its importance and impact in-depth. The author uses a hundred verses of scripture and his knowledge of the original languages to enlighten and illuminate what first-century Christians knew, but has been lost for centuries and hidden by our own desire to avoid knowing what God really wants from us. He simply wants to be God and have us to be His followers. We tend to own ourselves which makes us our own God in practice. This book is a refreshing look at God and our relationship with Him. It will open your eyes to the abundant life and how to live in it. The listener can discover the "place of rest" that is the intended level Jesus referred to in the Sermon on the Mount that He encourages us to reach. This book will change your perspective on God and yourself. The book contains the cause and cure for midlife crisis and burnout. The mystery of God mentioned in Revelation is finally given a plausible understanding. Being God gives the details needed to live the abundant life. The real question in the Garden of Eden was who the rule-maker would be. Only the owner can make the rules. Adam's changing of the rule was not just a misdemeanor behavior problem, but the felony of Grand Theft Garden, taking over ownership of the Garden and himself. We still suffer under that original mistake of thinking we own ourselves and everything around us. We still live as though we own and direct our own life ignoring the creator who is the true owner. The author dives deep into the subject of God's ownership revealing the depth of our division with our creator and why we struggle to know and serve God. ungekürzt. Language: English.
