Autism in Heels: The Untold Story of a Female Life on the Spectrum
Autism in Heels, an intimate memoir and Wall Street Journal bestseller, reveals the woman inside one of autism's most prominent figures, Jennifer O'Toole. At the age of thirty-five, Jennifer was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, and for the first time in her life, things made sense.Jennifer exposes the constant struggle between carefully crafted persona and authentic existence, editing the autism script with wit, candor, passion, and power. Her journey is one of reverse-self-discovery not only as an Aspie but--more importantly--as a thoroughly modern woman.Beyond being a memoir, Autism in Heels is a love letter to all women. It's a conversation starter. A game changer. And a firsthand account of what it is to walk in Jennifer's shoes (especially those iconic red stilettos).Whether it's bad perms or body image, sexuality or self-esteem, Jennifer's is as much a human journey as one on the spectrum. Because autism "looks a bit different in pink," most girls and women who fit the profile are not identified, facing years of avoidable anxiety, eating disorders, volatile relationships, self-harm, and stunted independence. Jennifer has been there, too. Autism in Heels takes that message to the mainstream. From her own struggles and self-discovery, she has built an empire of empowerment, inspiring women the world over to realize they aren't mistakes. They are misunderstood miracles.- Shop: buecher

An Aspie's Psychosis , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 58min
Asperger's syndrome is not always what you think. Standing alone, Asperger's has been no challenge for Travis. With co-morbid psychosis, life has been a nightmare at times. An Aspie's Psychosis is written in two different personalities: the first by a man in the middle of a psychotic episode journaling his every though and feeling, the second from the perspective of a man who is in a time of healing looking back at his psychotic episode and reflecting on it.Co-morbid psychosis is alarmingly common among people with Asperger syndrome. With extreme social rejections and bullying a primary feature of Asperger's, it becomes apparent that there will be co-morbid mental health issues that arise. Travis hears voices. Those voices impact his social skills more than his Asperger's does. Psychotic breaks can last for long periods of times. With perseveration being a primary feature of autism, it can be hard for someone with the disorder to break free from the psychotic trap. In a recent study, it was said that people with Asperger syndrome often experience hearing voices and having hallucinations, and in some cases, this is due to the social experience. Travis shares how his hallucinations and voices cause him to focus in on the wrong treatments for autism and obsess over things that otherwise have no meaning outside of psychosis. This book will bring you inside of the psychotic experience of someone living with autism. As usual, this story is told with no filter and comes from the heart of an aspie, making it a valuable tool in understanding the co-morbid issues a person with autism might face when encountering psychosis. ungekürzt. Crush OCPD: Help for Couples Hindered by Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder: Transcend Mediocrity, Book 92 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 25min
Many of my readers and listeners write to me asking how to better help their spouse or partner who has OCPD. After writing my book on OCPD - 35 Underlying Causes of OCPD, I jumped directly into researching everything that I could in order to help these couples to find a way to grow together. I knew some of the steps that helped OCPD couples because of my own experiences in growing and learning with my OCPD/Aspie spouse, but I wanted to find a much more "big picture" way to approach and "cure" or lessen OCPD tendencies. While doing my research, I stumbled across information on different types of monkeys and apes which explained the various types of brains and levels of empathy, emotional maturity, and social skills that are evident in society today. There are three types of great apes that are said to relate to the different types of personality disorders that are evident if you look at the human race and normal human behaviors. The concept is that the Bonobo apes represent the humans who have traits and tendencies typical of avoidant personality disorder and dependent personality disorder. The chimpanzees represent antisocial personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, and histrionic personality disorders. The last subset of apes that fell on the chart are the orangutans, which are largely representative of paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal personality disorders. The purpose of looking at this link between human and apes is that it is possible that the differences in human empathy, social skills, and personality are not so much "abnormal" as they are simply slightly more primitive and animalistic in nature.... Essentially, these personality traits that we are classifying as "abnormal" are actually somewhat normal range. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: D Gaunt.
