A non-stop fantasy action thrill ride full of swords, magic and battle! Once the blood starts flowing, it just doesn't seem to stop. Blood and Steel begins the story of Cor Pelson. You see, Cor is a Dahken - a race of magical warriors long thought dead by both the beneficent priests of the Shining West and the necromancers of the Loszian Empire. Shortly after he was born Cor changed - the coughing attacks came, and his skin changed to the gray of a corpse. He is different, and there were those who took notice. Cor comes to realize that there are those who would control the power in his blood. Frightened and determined to protect those he loves, Cor steals away from home. He quickly finds that the world is not what he thought it was - the world is not full of happy farmers in a bountiful kingdom, living in peace and freedom. It is in fact a cruel, brutal place where blood flows readily and the ability to protect himself is paramount. Those that would control the power in his blood follow him to the sea. Cor must accept that he is different, learn to unlock his strength and take revenge upon the Loszian necromancer who has wronged him. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Andy Babinski. From Robert Brockway, Sr. Editor and Columnist of Cracked.com, comes The Unnoticeables, a funny and frightening urban fantasy. There are angels, and they are not beneficent or loving. But they do watch over us. They watch our lives unfold, analyzing us for repeating patterns and redundancies. When they find them, the angels simplify those patterns and remove the redundancies, and the problem that is "you" gets solved. Carey doesn't much like that idea. As a punk living in New York City, 1977, Carey is sick and tired of watching strange kids with unnoticeable faces abduct his friends. He doesn't care about the rumors of tar-monsters in the sewers or unkillable psychopaths invading the punk scene - all he wants is to drink cheap beer and dispense ass-kickings. Kaitlyn isn't sure what she's doing with her life. She came to Hollywood in 2013 to be a stunt woman, but last night a former teen heartthrob tried to eat her, her best friend has just gone missing, and there's an angel outside her apartment. Whatever she plans on doing with her life, it should probably happen in the few remaining minutes she has left. There are angels. There are demons. They are the same thing. It's up to Carey and Kaitlyn to stop them. The survival of the human race is in their hands. We are, all of us, well and truly screwed. ungekürzt. Language: English. Gene Stratton-Porter (A Girl of the Limberlost and Laddie) was a writer whose primary interest was the natural world. In The Keeper of the Bees, her last novel, she brought to vivid life the coastline, flora, and fauna of her adopted California.Jamie MacFarlane has returned a hero from the Great War but with a stubborn chest wound. The government has sent him to their new thermal springs hospital in California "where it was hoped that the brilliant sunshine, the fruits, and the clean air, the eternal summer of a beneficent land" would heal him. But nothing has worked, and with his parents now deceased and no one to care for him, it seems the next step is a camp rife with tuberculosis. Realizing this, Jamie begins his great adventure on foot toward the ocean. For miles, he encounters both sympathy and villainy, and just as his own strength is at its lowest ebb, he finds salvation when he encounters an elderly gentleman who's in worse shape than he is. Jamie agrees to take on the gentleman's work tending his bees, aided by his assistant, the precocious 10-year-old Little Scout. The Pacific Ocean air, ripe fruits, and exercise are certainly beneficial, but it's not until Jamie begins to think beyond his own mortality that he truly begins to heal. His natural empathy, his work among the bees, new friendships, and a mysterious young woman may be the keys to a new life and his cure.About the bees: Ever the naturalist, Stratton-Porter delivers, through Little Scout's child-like tutorial to Jamie, the clearest explanation ever written of the complicated society of these fascinating creatures. ungekürzt. Initially published in 1971, this book became perhaps the rarest "contactee" book ever. Prior to its 2014 reissue, there were only a half dozen copies remaining in the world's library system, with the rest trading for thousands of dollars each. This special edition includes content that poses deeper, more disturbing questions about the beneficent "Space Brothers." Woodrow Derenberger, the author of the book, claimed to have had a series of strange adventures beginning on November 2, 1966. While driving home from Parkersburg, West Virginia, to his suburban home in Mineral Wells, he suddenly found the highway blocked by a large, gray object. Someone emerged from the object and walked to the passenger-side window of his car. The man introduced himself as "a searcher" and offered words of comfort to Derenberger. After noting that he would come again, the "spaceman", who called himself "Indrid Cold", stepped back into the object, and it rose out of sight. Derenberger went home and told his story to his wife. He then called the police and the press. Soon after, other witnesses came forward to say that they, too, had seen Cold talking to Derenberger by the side of the road. (In time, several locals would have their own encounters with Cold.) Two days later, while driving in his car, Derenberger began to receive telepathic communications from Cold, who described himself as from the "galaxy of Ganymede". Cold also supplied some information about his life, including the observation that people on his planet (Lanulos) lived to be 125 to 175 of our Earth years. Over the next weeks, other stories would accumulate that substantiated other parts of Derenberger's story, including independent UFO sightings on November 4. ungekürzt. Language: English. There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved. (Charles Darwin) "We must, however, acknowledge, as it seems to me, that man with all his noble qualities...still bears in his bodily frame the indelible stamp of his lowly origin." (Charles Darwin) Ever since the human mind developed the capacity for thought, people have pondered not just the meaning of life, but the genesis of the world, the universe, and all the natural marvels and precious forms of life within it. To this day, all of these intricate subjects continue to be matters of great contention, and they are often best encapsulated in the debate between creationism and evolution. On the one hand are those who are adamant that it was God, or some other supreme being, that designed and crafted every detail of the universe, as evidenced by the plethora of creation myths from various creeds and traditions. On the other hand are those who subscribe to the belief of, or as they would say, "accept" evolution and scientific processes as fact. The kindler of this impassioned existential dispute, of course, is none other than Charles Darwin, who himself devised the term "creationists" and propelled the controversial theory of evolution to prominence. Given that he went against the grain with his scientific work, he was clearly one of the most polarizing men of his age, and he wouldn’t hesitate to question one of the central tenets of Western civilization in print: "I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created parasitic wasps with the express intention of their feeding within the living bodies of Caterpillars." Bearing this in mind, while it was indeed ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jim D. Johnston. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/111918/bk_acx0_111918_sample.mp3.
