Today, Susie has the real story behind Playboy's decision to discontinue the centerfold. The world is abuzz with the news that the leading gentrifier of "girlie mags" will no longer publish nude photos. Playboy claims that their magazine has lost "shock value, commercial value and cultural relevance" due to the easy access to porn the Internet provides. Susie sees it differently: It's more about looking for more international outlets, ones that won't allow nudity but condone - and really like - titillation. Next, are dildos more dangerous than guns? Susie reads from an article by Hannah Smothers at fusion.net about a University of Texas at Austin student who is protesting school policy that makes it okay to carry a gun but forbidden to carry a dildo. A new law that goes into effect in 2016, called Campus Carry, will allow students to carry guns. Our protester has created Campus (Dildo) Carry to point out the absurdity that guns are allowed but sex toys aren't. Finally, it's "What's New on Audible". Susie has a randy new audiobook for you to enjoy: Shadow Hunt by L.L. Raand, narrated by Maxine Mitchell. This is the final installment in the Midnight Hunter series. There are vampires involved in this sexy story, which is filled with erotic lesbian scenes. Have a question or news story for Susie? Ever wonder what the top 10 global Internet sex search words are? Susie looks at a very thorough list that shows which porn terms are the most popular. The search engine is called PornMD, which is part of Pornhub.com. What's surprising is the variances from country to country. And it's curious as well to see what words are universal. This is part history lesson, part laugh fest. Next, Susie is ticked off by an op-ed in the Washington Post. The headline: "18-year-olds are too young to be in porn". Now, this story is about a teen beauty-pageant winner who had to forfeit her title when it was discovered that she was in a porn movie as an 18-year-old. That's legal but, according to the op-ed, not right! Susie thinks it's ridiculous to condone pageants as a healthy way to showcase your beauty versus being paid to display your body in a film. Really, which one is more exploitative? Susie has a lot to say on this subject. Then, from the "Try This at Home" mailbag, Susie has a letter from a guy who needs advice. He's a lonely "non-sexpot" surrounded by "sexpots" and he's silently going crazy. "Help!" Have a question? You can call Susie's hotline at 831-480-5110. And you can send your confidential questions - plus requests for free samples and blog banners! - to susie@audible.com. **A note of warning from the author; I waited until the book was finished before writing this foreword. Now I find it difficult to encapsulate the book in a short summary, but I felt the need to forewarn you, The Reader. Many of you have probably read my previous series, Mageborn, which is set two millennia after the events in this book, so you may have some misconceptions about what you’ll find here. Unlike Mageborn, this story encounters more adult issues. The main character does not always do the ‘right’ thing, and in fact, cannot be called a hero. Events conspire to darken his future and twist his morality, but his choices are his own. Most importantly, the story delves into some topics of a sensitive nature, particularly sexual abuse and violence, though there is nothing graphic in the telling. I didn’t set out to write a book about those things, but they came up as part of the course of this tale, and I couldn’t avoid them. Before allowing some of the situations in this book, before writing them, I sought advice from a number of friends; people who have confided in me over the years. Several of them have been through experiences that correlate to a surprising degree with some of the darker elements within this tale. Fortunately, they had much better outcomes, and in fact, I doubt any of them would condone the choices that the main character in this story makes. My main purpose in writing this foreword is to make sure that my audience understands that I don’t take the subject matter lightly. - Michael G. Manning ungekürzt. Language: English. A veteran hockey writer takes on hockey culture and the NHL, addressing the game's most controversial issue. Whether it's on-ice fist fights or head shots into the glass, hockey has become a nightly news spectacle with players pummeling and bashing each other across the ice like drunken gladiators. And while the NHL may actually condone on-ice violence as a ticket draw, diehard hockey fan and expert Adam Proteau argues against hockey's transformation into a thuggish blood sport. In Fighting the Good Fight, Proteau sheds light on the many perspectives of those in and around the game, with interviews of current and former NHL stars, coaches, general managers, and league executives, as well as medical experts. One of the most well-known media figures on the hockey scene today, famous for his funny, feisty observations as a writer for the Toronto Star and The Hockey News and commentator on CBC radio and TV, Adam Proteau is also one of the few mainstream media voices who is vehemently anti-fighting in hockey. Not only is his book a plea to the game's gatekeepers to finally clamp down on the runaway violence that permeates the sport even at its highest level, he offers realistic suggestions on ways to finally clean the game up.Includes interviews with medical experts on head injuries and concussions, as well as with other members of the mediaThe author not only wages an attack on the value of fighting in hockey, but also on the establishment hockey culture Covering the most polarizing issue in hockey today, Fighting the Good Fight gives hockey fans and sports lovers everywhere a reason to stamp their feet and whistle at a rare display of eloquence and common sense. ungekürzt. Section 8: The men and women called upon by The Organization to do the impossible. They are the soldiers with nothing to lose, making up a top–secret unit tasked with what others call suicide missions. Long before the United States existed, The Organization pulled strings…Dating back to the destruction of the Knights Templar, possibly even further in history. Captain Jim Vaughn is an officer in disgrace. Commanding a Special Forces mission to rescue hostages in the Philippines, Vaughn's team is destroyed, and when the smoke clears, he becomes the scapegoat. Forced into the shadows by the scandal, Vaughn is offered a chance to redeem himself when he is approached by an enigmatic government agent working for The Organization. Vaughn is shocked to meet his new teammates, a group outside of the regular chain of command. These are soldiers who have used up all their second chances - the men and women who have crossed the line one too many times. Drug users. Felons. The terminally ill. And now, these are the soldiers that Vaughn must trust with his life. Even with a traitor in their ranks. But is the traitor actually the patriot? This group of misfits has been assembled for two reasons - they are skilled and they are expendable. They are needed to attempt the missions that the government can't acknowledge, the country can't condone. The team cannot fail. But the deeper Vaughn gets into the group, the more he realizes that The Organization may be concealing more than the just rap sheets of its most unusual operators. A team of such unique properties is the perfect tool to use against America's enemies... and possibly America itself. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jeffrey Kafer. Book 1 of the Obsolete series In a dystopian future, an epic battle between the sexes will determine who lives and who dies. After the Blue Pox pandemic wipes out 99.99 percent of males and 99.95 percent of females, the majority under the age of 50,18-year-old Madison wanders the countryside, lost and alone. She joins forces with Katherine, a former anthropologist, in search of a safe place to live, and the two find a group of women gathered on the campus of a small college in East Tennessee. Katherine quickly establishes herself as leader and under the influence of Callie, a former prison guard, begins to imprison men, whom they refer to as the "others", for what Madison perceives can only be nefarious reasons. When older and weaker prisoners start mysteriously disappearing, Madison suspects Callie and her band of deputies are killing them. After a pregnant woman joins their commune, Callie and Katherine, aware that females outnumber males and hoping to create a new world ruled by women, make plans to build their community and attain power. They devise a procreation policy, mating the younger women with the healthy male prisoners, and Madison must make a decision to either stay and become puppet to their plans or make her way alone in a desolate, violent world. But before she can do so, she meets Jonah, a young man captured by Callie, and Madison finds herself caught between her love and loyalty to Katherine and her attraction to Jonah. Madison is forced to make a harder decision: To stay and condone what Callie and Katherine are doing or risk her life and escape with Jonah. ungekürzt. Language: English. Stories include: “Raggedy Ann Learns a Lesson,” “Raggedy Ann and the Washing,” “Raggedy Ann and the Kite,” “Raggedy Ann Rescues Fido,” “Raggedy Ann and the Painter,” “Raggedy Ann’s Trip on the River,” “Raggedy Ann and the Strange Dolls,” “Raggedy Ann and the Kittens,” “Raggedy Ann and the Fairies’ Gift,” “Raggedy Ann and the Chickens,” “Raggedy Ann and the Mouse,” “Raggedy Ann’s New Sisters,” “How Raggedy Andy Came,” “The Nursery Dance,” “The Spinning Wheel,” “The Taffy Pull,” “The Rabbit Chase,” “The New Tin Gutter,” “Doctor Raggedy Andy,” “Raggedy Andy’s Smile,” “The Wooden Horse,” “Making Angels in the Snow,” and “The Singing Shell.” Johnny Gruelle (1880-1938), the much loved creator of the brother and sister rag dolls Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy, started his career as a newspaper cartoonist. By beating out fifteen hundred entrants in a comic drawing contest sponsored by the New York Herald, he earned a $2,000 prize and an extended contract to provide a weekly installment of his cartoon Mr. Twee Deedle. In addition to designing the Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, he soon began writing and illustrating make believe tales and adventure stories for children. ungekürzt. Language: English.
