Waterflow erodes, shapes, and carves. It is persistent and inevitable. And like the natural phenomenon, the sophomore album Waterflow by Seattle artist/emcee Tulsi erodes, shapes, and carves. In his follow-up album to Fresh Points on Life, Tulsi again erodes stale hip hop themes by talking about things we care about and things we can relate to. Tulsi shapes Waterflow into what hip hop should be: substance and style, without sacrificing one for the other. Waterflow takes you back to the Golden Age of hip hop without sounding dated, carving and cutting with a simple formula-beats and rhymes. Tulsi rhymes over beats by Confidence, crafting songs that punch and resonate. Tulsi's modus operandi has always been to reproduce the quality of the Golden Age of hip hop with a new school freshness. How many old-timers have you heard say "They don't make 'em like they used to anymore"? Waterflow is made with solid wood. No plastics here. Tulsi again showcases his off-beat sense of humor, his ear for quality, and his knack for saying exactly what we've been thinking all along. Throughout the album he showcases his imagination, technical skill, and ear for what has and hasn't worked in the last 20 years of hip hop. For a sophomore album, Waterflow is one of the rare follow-up efforts that exceeds the first. It's Tulsi's Godfather II or Empire Strikes Back. There's a reason so many sophomore albums disappoint. Under pressure to out-do themselves, artists overthink, overproduce, and overcook their songs. Waterflow is just right. Tulsi's fingerprints are all over Waterflow's beats, production, and obviously, content. He has been showcasing Waterflow the only way a good throw-back emcee would: by performing live shows.

Review by Collin Clay (Juha) This time when Th' Mole pops out of the hole, his trademark goofy hip hop grin bares some teeth, even as his heart remains firmly on his sleeve. Greatest Hits (Ha Ha Ha) Vol. 1 is Th' Mole's Daly City Records label debut. A combination of classic tracks, re-recordings, and new material, the elements converge to make his strongest and most personal collection thus far. As a producer, The Mole manages to create a sound that is aggressive and fluid all at once, it's the bombastic sound of the apocalypse, but with an over-riding feel of hopeful carelessness rather than one of desolation. In "Don't Be Sad, Nothing Matters," a warm classical flamenco guitar is stunningly contrasted with electrified beats, while a voiceover reassures us that we have nothing to fear "as the world plummets". "Jump Jack" - an irresistibly-catchy dance jam that also features ragga vocalist Warrior Queen - continues the theme as he commands us: "Fuck the world! Just jump up off it... and do your dance." Faced with the onslaught of depressing current events and trends, Th' Mole has taken on the role of comforting father on a sinking ship. His skills as an emcee have grown stronger than ever, as evidenced by the new remake of "Caitlin," a signature song of his that tells a touching, apologetic tale of childhood playground betrayals. On the other end of both the lyrical and vocal spectrum is "I Hate You," a reflection on love-gone sour, sung over a piano-plunk loop that could have been taken right out of Peanuts. "I baked you a cake and I don't even cook. I'll never bake another fucking cake ever again. And by the way, sometimes your breath stinks. And you're fucking insensitive. Bitch." It's hilarious, and if you've followed Th' Mole's career, it's also a jolt, the remorseful Mole of "Caitlin" is now calling a girl a bitch? In a lot of ways that sums up the Mole of 2009: ideals of love or society have been destroyed, and he's mildly pissed about that. Charming humility is replaced with an inspiring sense of entitlement: he's done asking us to see a better world, now he's gonna build one whether we like it or not. Overwhelmingly, however challenging the message, sheer fun still rules Th' Mole's self-made universe. The production is impeccable, the vocals and lyrics are dizzyingly creative, and as he manages to stamp a smiley face on everything, he creates an improbably refreshing sort of emo-comedy. Greatest Hits (Ha Ha Ha) Vol. 1 succeeds in being Th' Mole's most cohesive and satisfying album yet. To ice the cake, the Tick Tick Blam EP (included as an MP3 CD-extra, along with an exclusive music video) features remixes from the likes of Mochipet (Daly City/Bpitch Control), Robot Koch (of Jahcoozi, Kitty-Yo/Rough Trade), acclaimed Brazilian baile funk producer DJ Amazing Clay (Man Recordings), Bloody Snowman (Daly City), and Preshish Moments (Daly City).

Born and raised in Southern California, Justin "JustMe" Long was introduced to hip-hop through popping, locking, and breaking. When a twelve year-old Justin expressed an interest in Deejaying, his dad saw an opportunity. Pops bought his son a bunch of DJ equipment and the two started their own business, spinning at weddings, school dances, and house parties around the way. It wasn't long before the 12" singles Justin was blending, became inspiration for the birth of an emcee. Justin's freshman year of high school was filled with adversity. He watched as his parents' marriage fell apart. Many of his friends were incarcerated on violence and drug charges. As if that weren't enough, J's first partner in rhyme died tragically at the age of seventeen. All of these factors led young Justin to seek a greater purpose in life, which he found when he became a follower of Jesus Christ. With an enhanced vision and drive, and with assistance from members of The TunnelRats, Justin began recording under the name Sage. After high school Sage hooked up with Capture to form SolSeekers. The duo quickly gained notoriety, receiving praise in the once popular hip-hop rag Rap Sheet. They followed that up by topping mainstream artists Q-tip and Silk The Shocker with the #1 hit on mp3.com "Audience of One". In 2002 SolSeekers parted ways and Justin left the golden state for the bluegrass state. In Kentucky Sage became JustMe and hooked up with Ohio emcee Cas Metah to found the Scribbling Idiots crew. SI grew into a large collective of emcees and producers that span the globe! By releasing several top-notch mixtapes and albums, SI has gained a worldwide following, leading to successful solo careers for many of the Scribbling Idiots. Among them, JustMe has stood out as a leader, appearing on nearly every project that the crew has had their hands in. 2009 brings JustMe's sophomore solo effort Before The Twilight. With up-and-coming producer Commissioner Gordon handling the beats on all but one track, JustMe proves that his greatest asset as an emcee is his storytelling ability. JM weaves yarns with a rhythm and cadence that draws in listeners of all ages and backgrounds. He tells tales of lessons learned through his many travels and travails. JustMe has shared the stage with notable artists such as KJ52, LA Symphony, Mars Ill, Soul P and many, many more. He has worked in the studio with TunnelRats, Pigeon John, and Deepspace5 among others.

His music is a testament to the human spirit and to experiences that everyone can relate to. Just Sayin''s career began early in his life, he's been writing ever since he learned to read. In junior high school, he continued to impress his fellow students and faculty with his poetry and eventually wrote his first rhyme. The inspiration to conquer the stage came in high school when Just dominated the lunchroom rhyming ciphers. After a successful performance at Martin Van Buren High School's Star Search talent show, he discovered his natural ability to move the crowd. "As time went on, I realized that rocking crowds, making music and listening to music was all that really made me happy," reflects Just. Throughout his high school and collegiate career, Just's dynamic style continued to rile up audiences at various venues, creating a loyal following. His major inspirations include: God, freedom, family, life experiences, love (and the possibility of it!) and earning his rightful place in Heaven. Just Sayin' is ready to rise to the next level, dedicating himself to exploring, developing and sharing his numerous talents with the world. "Having only one life to live and the realization that God punishes those who don't use their talents, the decision to pursue music and letting everything else fall into place was pretty easy when put into the proper perspective." 'Just Sayin' is one unique MC that's in a league of his own. His music is most original and relevant in these days and times.' ~ Q The Prophet 'One of the most captivating and thought provoking artists on the rise to redefine why Hip Hop music is STILL the voice of the intelligent folks who have a NEED to felt and heard.' ~ Incksalonius.

The combination of music that has elements of rock, soul, funk and 'boom bap' percussion with lyrical visualization and spiritual depth defines the sound of Zoned Out. The group consists of Max 'M-TRI' Triolo and Anthony 'Deep Thought' Heyward. Deep Thought, an emcee and spoken word poet for years, represents the Bronx and M-TRI, the triple threat of emcee, producer, and dj, hails from Brooklyn. The two met in 2000 at a weekly open mic that M-TRI was deejaying at with a mutual friend. Deep recited spoken word, M-TRI rhymed and played classic breaks. They had such a good chemistry that shortly they began making songs together. Both influenced by the Golden Age of hip hop, Deep brought his strong conceptualism and gritty intellect and M-TRI added his talents as a lyricist and producer. Their debut album, 'Contradictions', is the result of their dedication to bring rap back to a respectable form of music. They hit the ground running with the first track, 'Here It Is' addressing the current commercial rap situation. The title track, 'Contradictions' pokes at how hypocritical society can be. They even switch roles and address the obvious with the track, 'Black n White.' They finish strong with a remix of 'Here It Is' featuring Blowout of the Turntable Anihilists, Infinite, and Sabac Red of Nonphixion. Finally, two emcees that are talented and courageous enough to break away from the pack and create music for life. Zoned Out has arrived.

    ||:: Luvydub Productions presents C-Love ::|| C. Love, Curt Cunningham, was intimately introduced to songwriting and creating loving music at a very early age. Born into a family where music accompanied every family occasion, it became an essential ingredient to happy living. His father, Clyne Cunningham Sr., a songwriter and musician, did not hesitate to nurture the natural musical talent he saw in his own children. He formed a recording band with C. Love and his two siblings while they were still very young and impressionable. At the precious ages of four, six, and two, C. Love and his two siblings recorded their first song in the studio. C. Love sang background and played light percussion. Clyne Sr. wrote the music and played the piano and bass. Over time, they recorded numerous songs and as a result music became a part of C. Love's eternal existence. Inspired by his father's love, passion and appreciation for all music, C. Love has grown into a musical genius who embodies all that music has to offer the world. His songs tell stories through the eyes of truth using a simple yet profound fusion of honesty, observation, reflection and love. C. Love's professional musical career has been one of quiet yet consistent and resonating success. In 1993, C. Love (then Charms), Clynetell - C. Love's older brother (then Composer Clyne), and Shala-Shakir (then Shamega) formed a hip hop group called the Natural Mystics. In 1995 and 1996 Natural Mystic's had two singles entitled "It's So" and "How it Go". The singles held all the ingredients for success and sold around the world, namely France, England, and Japan. C. Love married in 1999. In 2001, C. Love received a degree in Fine Arts, with a concentration in painting, from the University of Maryland at Collage Park. In 2003 C. Love picked up a guitar from a close friend and never put it down. In 2006, C. Love's career took another positive turn destined to help him gain international acclaim with the creation of Luvydub productions. Luvydub productions is a collaborative group of producers, singers and songwriters that come together to make good, positive music that keeps you moving and thinking.
