Rename PCOS: These People Have Prediabetes , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 17min
Most health care providers who take care of women are familiar with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and have seen patients with this disorder. The diagnosis seems pretty straightforward with irregular menses, signs of excess androgens, and polycystic ovaries on ultrasound. Of course, we must exclude other etiologies of the symptoms to make a PCOS diagnosis. This is where many are erring. They have made the wrong diagnosis. Now the treatment may be the same and often we are successful with the symptoms, but we are doing our patients a great disservice by giving many of them the wrong diagnoses. These patients are not going to die of facial hair, irregular menses, or infertility. But they will have many problems if they end up with type-2 diabetes, which many will. Wrong diagnosis has greatly diminished our chance of changing their lives.Let me give you my argument on why we must change the diagnosis. We are successfully treating the cough, but we have ignored the lung cancer. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kelly Gregg. The Dynamic Cosmos (eBook, ePUB)
This edited volume applies the analytic notions of paradox and play to the ethnographic manifestation of spirits, angels, and demons in different locations around the world. The 10 case studies conceptualize the co-presence of humans and entities with terms that do not exclude spiritual reasoning on the one hand, and social explanations on the other. Through in-depth descriptions of localized possession cosmologies, the different chapters collectively propose path-breaking methodological directions in this field, which incorporate ethnographic theories of simultaneity into anthropological theories of religion, kinship, and ritual.Framed by an introduction written by the editors and an afterword by Michael Lambek, a leading authority in possessions studies, the volume contains cutting edge analyses that will provide readers with new tools to evaluate previously unstudied aspects of spirit possession; all of which stem from the fantastic forms of human movement that accompany the phenomenality of paradoxes in mundane reality.- Shop: buecher

The Red Book: A Reader's Edition: Philemon , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1200min
UPDATE: In response to listener feedback, this audio edition of The Red Book has now been revised to exclude footnotes in the reading. An audio edition of the famous Red Book text and essay. The Red Book, published to wide acclaim in 2009, contains the nucleus of C. G. Jung's later works. It was here that he developed his principal theories of the archetypes, the collective unconscious, and the process of individuation that would transform psychotherapy from treatment of the sick into a means for the higher development of the personality. As Sara Corbett wrote in the New York Times, "The creation of one of modern history's true visionaries, The Red Book is a singular work, outside of categorization. As an inquiry into what it means to be human, it transcends the history of psychoanalysis and underscores Jung's place among revolutionary thinkers like Marx, Orwell and, of course, Freud."The Red Book: A Reader's Edition features Sonu Shamdasani's introductory essay and the full translation of Jung's vital work in one audiobook. The Red Book is skillfully narrated by Mike Fraser. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Mike Fraser. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/198222/bk_acx0_198222_sample.mp3. The Immanence of Truths (eBook, ePUB)
The Being and Event trilogy is the philosophical basis of Alain Badiou's entire oeuvre. It is formed of three major texts, which constitute a kind of metaphysical saga: Being and Event (1988). ), Logics of the Worlds (2006) and finally The Immanence of Truths, which he has been working on for 15 years. The new volume reverses the perspective adopted in Logics of Worlds. Where in that book, Badiou saw fit to analyze how truths, qua events, appear from the perspective of particular worlds that by definition exclude them, in The Immanence of Truths Badiou asks instead how the irruption of truth transforms the worlds within which they by necessity must arise. An emphasis on regularity and continuity has given way to an attempt, one unquestionable in its philosophical power and implications, to formalize rupture and reconfiguration. The Being and Event trilogy is a unique and ambitious work that reveals how truths can be at once context-specific and universal, situational and eternal.- Shop: buecher

Cholera 1832 (eBook, PDF)
Originally published in 1976, this is the account of British society's response to the threat of disease. It is the story of an administrative fight to exclude the disease by quarantine and to persuade commerce and working-class people to observe carefully thought-out regulations. The story of one of failure - of men hampered by lack of information, lack of resources and lack of a convincing scientific explanation. Medical science failed to see that infected water supplies were the major carriers of the epidemic and failed to acknowledge saline infusion (the basis of successful modern treatment) when it was presented to them by an obscure local surgeon in Leith. The social structure of the medical profession was as much a barrier to scientific advance as the technical limitations of statistical method and microscope. These reactions are explained in terms of the expectations and the understanding of those involved as well as in terms of modern medical knowledge and sociological theory.- Shop: buecher
