Inferno , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1112min
As stated in her introduction to Inferno, Ellen Datlow asked her favorite authors for stories that would "provide the reader with a frisson of shock, or a moment of dread so powerful it might cause the reader outright physical discomfort; or a sensation of fear so palpable that the reader feels compelled to turn on the bright lights and play music or seek the company of others to dispel the fear." Mission accomplished. Datlow has produced a collection filled with some of the most powerful voices in the field: Pat Cadigan, Terry Dowling, Jeffrey Ford, Christopher Fowler, Glen Hirshberg, K. W. Jeter, Joyce Carol Oates, and Lucius Shepard, to name a few. Each author approaches fear in a different way, but all of the stories' characters toil within their own hell. An aptly titled anthology, Inferno will scare the pants off listeners and further secure Ellen Datlow's standing as a preeminent editor of modern horror. ungekürzt. Language: English. The Flowers of Evil, Hörbuch, Digital, 26min
Les fleurs du mal, in english The Flowers of Evil, is a volume of French poetry by Charles Baudelaire. First published in 1857, it was important in the symbolist and modernist movements. The poems deal with themes relating to decadence and eroticism. Baudelaire dedicated the book to the poet Théophile Gautier, describing him as a "parfait magicien des lettres françaises" ("a perfect magician of French letters").The author and the publisher were prosecuted under the regime of the Second Empire as an "outrage aux bonnes mœurs" ("an insult to public decency"). As a consequence of this prosecution, Baudelaire was fined 300 francs. Six poems from the work were suppressed and the ban on their publication was not lifted in France until 1949. These poems were : Lesbos, Les Métamorphoses du Vampire (or The Vampire's Metamorphoses), for example. These were later published in Brussels in a small volume entitled Les Épaves (Scraps or Jetsam). Upon reading The Swan (or Le Cygne) from Les Fleurs du mal, Victor Hugo announced that Baudelaire had created "un nouveau frisson" (a new shudder, a new thrill) in literature. Those poems, The Flowers of Evil, are a master piece of french literature. Language: English. Narrator: Stuart Walker. Urban Legends: The Pocket Essential Guide , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 187min
To many, urban legends are nothing more than harmless tales told round a camp fire, in a dormitory, or 'round a table in a pub with the express aim of provoking a frisson of fear in the listener through the use of some horrific shock element in a familiar location and an unlucky protagonist who is known to a friend of a friend of a friend. But is there something working at a deeper level? We have all heard stories of the Deep Fried Rat, the Ghostly Hitchhiker, the Hook Handed Killer, or the Poodle in the Microwave, but should we take them at face value or greet them with scorn and derision? Did the events in these tales ever really happen or are they the product of over-active imaginations fearful of the outside world? In this book Nick Harding sets out to describe a host of urban legends, suggesting that we should not dismiss them purely as nonsense nor accept them as gospel truth but strive to understand their underlying meanings and begin to see their true worth as folklore for the modern world. To understand folklore, and therefore the realm of the urban legend, is to understand the psyche of a nation. By understanding urban legends we can gain an insight into our own fears and those of our fellow human beings. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: David Ryder. Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 474min
Few actors in Hindi cinema have had Rishi Kapoor's sort of a career arc: from the gawky adolescent pining for his schoolteacher (Mera Naam Joker, 1970) to the naughty 90-year-old (Kapoor & Sons, 2016), Rishi Kapoor has regaled audiences for close to 50 years. He won a National Award for his debut, became an overnight sensation with his first film as a leading man (Bobby, 1973), and carved a niche for himself with a string of romantic musical blockbusters in an era known for its angst-ridden films. He was the youth icon that is still the toast of the satellite TV circuit. The songs he lip-synced are the bread and butter of all radio stations even today. Then there was the second coming after a brief hiatus in the 1990s - as one of the finest actors in mainstream Hindi cinema with powerhouse performances in films like Do Dooni Chaar, D-Day, Agneepath and others. Characteristically candid, Rishi Kapoor brings Punjabi brio to the writing of Khullam Khulla. This is as up close and personal a biography as any fan could have hoped for. He writes about growing up in the shadow of a legendary father, skipping school to act in Mera Naam Joker, the workings of the musical hits of the era, an encounter with Dawood Ibrahim, his heroines (their working relationship, the gossip and the frisson that was sometimes real), his approach to his craft, his tryst with clinical depression, and more. A foreword by Ranbir Kapoor and a stirring afterword by Neetu Singh bookend the warmest, most dil se biography an Indian star has ever penned. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Salmin Sheriff.
