LGBT vs. Islamic Law: The Coming Storm of Radical Extremism to the Gay Community , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 50min
One of the grilling hot seats of controversies that breed not only human and public discrimination but fierce judgment is the issue of homosexuality. The grilling questions are: Are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people corruptions of human nature and dignity? Or are they the design of creation that expresses uniqueness and evolution? These essential questions are crucial in order to address the root issue. And this book was created for that purpose. This book serves as an open letter to both the LGBT and Islamic communities. We'll address: The right approach we should carefully consider when we deal with both parties The essential ideological heart cry of LGBT as an identity, individuals, and community Why the terms corruption and creation are a valid argument in their own contextual views but invalid when compromised to other's views Why LGBT is in fact a great economic resource for progress The context of Islam for giving a severe punishment against LGBT Why Islam's opposition against LGBT is a sacred devotion The author's burden of seeing no hope of reconciliation for both parties The common ground we can build in order to control the clashing storm of opposition coming from each party ungekürzt. Lessons from Fallen Civilizations: Can a Bankrupt America Survive the Current Islamic Threat? , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 820min
Islam's aggression against the West has been constant for the 14 centuries of its existence. The armies of Allah conquered most of the Christian Middle East and nearly conquered all of Christian Europe twice. Americans know that the fall of Rome has ominous lessons for America. They instinctively know that there are always barbarians at the gate. Using history as its guide, Lessons from Fallen Civilizations poses and answers the question: Can a bankrupt America survive the current Islamic threat? Today, millions of militant Muslims wake every morning plotting the destruction of the US. Many are among us. They are our neighbors and coworkers. Their mission is first to intimidate, then to destabilize our economy and ultimately to plant the black flag of Islam at the top of the White House. Lessons demonstrates how immutable laws have always governed the fall of five great civilizations. It shows how those immutable laws can be seen to repeat over time and how they are at work now. It is a saga that chronicles the decisions, deeds, and heroics of our ancestors who saved the West. It identifies the decisions we must make and the actions we must take in order to remain a free people. Kelley's "Immutables" demonstrate how a declining America will fall at the hands of Islamic extremists. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: John Sipple. Masters of Chaos: The Secret History of Special Forces , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 878min
Special Forces soldiers are daring, seasoned troops from America's heartland, selected in a tough competition and trained in an extraordinary range of skills. They know foreign languages and cultures and unconventional warfare better than any US fighters, and while they prefer to stay out of the limelight, veteran war correspondent Linda Robinson gained access to their closed world. She traveled with them on the frontlines, interviewed them at length on their home bases, and studied their doctrine, methods, and history. In Masters of Chaos she tells their story through a select group of senior sergeants and field-grade officers, a band of unforgettable characters like Rawhide, Killer, Michael T, and Alan - led by the unflappable Lt. Col. Chris Conner and Col. Charlie Cleveland, a brilliant but self-effacing West Pointer who led the largest unconventional war campaign since Vietnam in northern Iraq. Robinson follows the Special Forces from their first post-Vietnam combat in Panama, El Salvador, Desert Storm, Somalia, and the Balkans to their recent trials and triumphs in Afghanistan and Iraq. She witnessed their secret sleuthing and unsung successes in southern Iraq and recounts here for the first time the dramatic firefights of the western desert. Her blow-by-blow story of the attack on Ansar al-Islam's international terrorist training camp has never been told before. The most comprehensive account ever of the modern-day Special Forces in action, Masters of Chaos is filled with riveting, intimate detail in the words of a close-knit band of soldiers who have done it all. ungekürzt. A Macat Analysis of Samuel Huntington's The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 93min
A Macat analysis of Samuel Huntington's The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order London: Simon and Schuster, 2002. In his 1996 book The Clash Of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, American political scientist Samuel Huntington sets out his vision of the post-Cold War world. While the era from 1945 to 1989 was shaped by ideological conflict (communism vs. capitalism), Huntington predicts a future of cultural conflict. The worst clash, he argues, will come between the Islamic world and the West. The West's excessive arrogance and belief that its culture is a "gift" to the world will come into conflict with Islam's obstinacy and concern that its culture is, in turn, under attack from a morally decadent "other". Clash inspired academic debates between different political schools of thought. But its greatest impact came in its role in defining American foreign policy in the wake of the attacks on New York in 2001. Its language surfaced in presidential speeches by both George Bush Jr. and Barack Obama, and continues to be seen and heard in the vocabularies of American statesmen and think tanks today. You can find out more about how Samuel Huntington's ideas have been challenged and applied - and how his work has impacted on thinkers in other academic disciplines - by exploring further in the Macat Library. Macat's analyses cover 14 different subjects in the humanities and social sciences. To browse our whole multi media library and get a lot more, visit www.macat.com today. Macat. Learn better. Western Muslims and the Future of Islam , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 771min
In a Western world suddenly acutely interested in Islam, one question has been repeatedly heard above the din: Where are the Muslim reformers? With this ambitious volume, Tariq Ramadan firmly establishes himself as one of Europe's leading thinkers and one of Islam's most innovative and important voices. As the number of Muslims living in the West grows, the question of what it means to be a Western Muslim becomes increasingly important to the futures of both Islam and the West. While the media are focused on radical Islam, Ramadan claims, a silent revolution is sweeping Islamic communities in the West, as Muslims actively seek ways to live in harmony with their faith within a Western context. French, English, German, and American Muslims - women as well as men - are reshaping their religion into one that is faithful to the principles of Islam, dressed in European and American cultures, and definitively rooted in Western societies. Ramadan's goal is to create an independent Western Islam, anchored not in the traditions of Islamic countries but in the cultural reality of the West. He begins by offering a fresh reading of Islamic sources, interpreting them for a Western context and demonstrating how a new understanding of universal Islamic principles can open the door to integration into Western societies. He then shows how these principles can be put to practical use. Ramadan contends that Muslims can-indeed must-be faithful to their principles while participating fully in the civic life of Western secular societies. Grounded in scholarship and bold in its aims, Western Muslims and the Future of Islam offers a striking vision of a new Muslim Identity, one which rejects once and for all the idea that Islam must be defined in opposition to the West. ungekürzt. To the Best of Our Knowledge: Science and the Search for Meaning - Part Four: Can Islam and Science Coexist?, Hörbuch, Digital, 52min
In this hour, Steve Paulson presents a round-up of scholars who track scientific developments in the Muslim world. First he speaks with Taner Edis, a physicist at Truman State University whose books include An Illusion of Harmony: Science and Religion in Islam. Edis says the state of science is dismal in the Muslim world today. Next, Ziauddin Sardar, a London based scholar and cultural critic, agrees, to a point. He tells Steve what's needed now is "an Islamic science" and explains what that is. Sardar's memoir is Desperately seeking Paradise: Journeys of a Skeptical Muslim. Then, Nidhal Guessoum, an Algerian born astrophysicist who teaches at American University in the United Arab Emirates, agrees that contemporary science in the Arab word is abysmal, but he looks back with great pride at the Golden Age of Islam and talks with Steve about what happened. After that, Anousheh Ansari became the first Muslim woman to venture into space when she traveled aboard the International Space Station. She talks about her trip with Jim Fleming and writes about it in her book My Dream of Stars: From Daughter of Iran to Space Pioneer.Following that, Steve Paulson travels to Turkey to report on Harun Yahya, Islam's leading creationist, who runs a sophisticated media empire and has considerable influence. He also has critics. And finally, after all the debates about the Musli world, it's refreshing to look back at one of the world's great mystics - the Sufi poet Rumi. Rumi lived in the thirteenth century in what is now Turkey and left a remarkable cache of poetry and spiritual wisdom. He's one of America's best-selling poets, thanks to the efforts of his long-time translator, Coleman Barks. Anne Strainchamps talks with Coleman Barks about Rumi's insights. Great World Religions: Islam, Hörbuch, Digital, 368min
How familiar are you with the world's second-largest and fastest-growing religion? In these 12 lectures, Professor Esposito guides you through the facts and myths surrounding Islam and its more than 1.2 billion adherents. Many in the West know little about the faith and are familiar only with the actions of a minority of radical extremists, but this lecture series will help you better understand Islam's role as both a religion and a way of life, and its deep impact on world affairs both historically and today. What does the future hold for Islam and the West in the new century? How will it change under the influence of conservatives, reformers, and extremists? Moving from Muhammad to the present, from the 7th to the 21st centuries, you'll explore Muslim beliefs, practices, and history in the context of its significance and impact on Muslim life and society through the ages, as well as world events today. Topics you'll cover include the life and legacy of the prophet Muhammad; the nature and true meaning of jihad; the Muslim beliefs about other faiths such as Judaism and Christianity; Islamic contributions to mathematics, science, and art; the intricate relationship between Islam, modernization, capitalism, and democracy; and much more. Professor Esposito takes a closer look at the historical development of two great Islamic institutions: Islamic law and Islamic mysticism. And he examines the worldwide "struggle for the soul of Islam" occurring today between conservatives and reformers, mainstream Muslims and extremists. When the Sun Became the Center: How Copernicus Transformed Astronomy , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 173min
Essentially, most religions believe they already have the revealed truth and thus all future discoveries must, in some sense, comport with that revelation. Otherwise, the very core of such belief systems can be upended. Witness Christianity's reliance on the Bible and Islam's total acceptance of the Koran. Science, in contrast, doesn't hold to such priori dogmas, and thus is a new and open-ended quest for understanding how the universe operates. Because of this it is consistently free to being wrong and hence it is intrinsically progressive. Where religion remains more or less stagnant (given its already accepted truth claims), science works precisely because it is always changing and adapting to new forms of information that shed a clearer light on previously held maps or paradigms. Therefore it is not at all surprising that institutions like the Roman Catholic Church have a history of severely slowly down (or on occasion squelching) scientists who unearth findings that appear to contradict their core doctrines. While it is certainly true that Galileo was at times his own worst enemy (witness his disparaging characterizations of the Pope, with whom he once had friendly relations), his support of Copernican heliocentrism was regarded as heresy at the time and thus he was banned from preaching such views. Of course, the Church eventually gave up its Earth-centric notions and formally apologized to Galileo's memory 350 years later. It is an intriguing and instructive chapter in the often-tense relationship religion has with science. I think it is vitally important not to forget these pivotal moments in history since they enlighten us about why it is so important for religion not to interfere with a scientific understanding of the cosmos. Otherwise, we obstruct the greatest pathway for gaining knowledge about how the world really works. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jason Zenobia. Two Billion Caliphs (eBook, ePUB)
Explains the attraction of Muslims to their faith, and discusses the challenges contemporary Islam confronts, and how we might imagine an Islamic theology and identity ready to face tomorrow. Islam is often associated with and limited to the worst of the world-extremism, obscurantism, misogyny, bigotry. So why would so many people associate with such a fundamentalist faith? Unlike so many stale summaries, which restrict themselves to facts and figures, Haroon Moghul presents a deeply Muslim perspective on the world, providing Islam's most compelling answers to our most compelling questions: Who are we? What are we doing here? What happens to us when we die? And from description, Moghul moves to prescription, aspiring to something outrageous and audacious. Two Billion Caliphs advocates for a way of being Muslim in the world, ready for today and prepared for tomorrow. Two Billion Caliphs describes what Islam has been and what it is, who its heroes are, what its big ideas are, but not only to tell you about the past or the present, but to speak to the future. Two Billion Caliphs finds that Islam was a religion of intimacy, a faith rooted in and reaching for love, and that it could be and should be again. Fulfilling that destiny depends on the efforts of Muslims to reclaim their faith, rebuild their strength, and reimagine their future, on their own terms. Two Billion Caliphs offers Muslim thoughts for the age ahead, to create an interpretation Islam of and for days to come, the kind of religion the world's Muslims deserve, with echoes of the confident faith Muslims once had. The destiny of Islam, then, is not, as so many prefer to argue, a reformation. It is a counter-reformation. A restoration of what once was.- Shop: buecher
