St. Georgen - Gusen - Mauthausen
With numerous new documents that were never published before, this comprehensive study highlights the widely forgotten and neglected twin-camp character of the former Mauthausen Concentration Camp complex with key installations in St. Georgen and Gusen. It supplements the conventional narrative of the history of Concentration Camp Mauthausen with new and previously unpublished information from local sources, survivors, liberators, and archives all around the world. It focuses especially on SS infrastructure at St. Georgen and Gusen that is underrepresented in the history of Concentration Camp Mauthausen and the Holocaust in general. The study also supplements the history of World War II and the SS´s strategic involvement in German war production during the final phase of the war with new and previously unpublished information. Thus the study gives special emphasize on joint-venture projects of the Waffen-SS with Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG and Messerschmitt GmbH Regensburg that resulted in the realization of a top secret and most modern underground plant for the serial production of Me-262 jet planes in St. Georgen that might have influenced the course of World War II.- Shop: buecher

Of Smiling Peace (eBook, ePUB)
Of Smiling Peace is a novel about the hazards of victory, told in the human terms of liberators, liberated and oppressors. As a story it is an absorbing duel of wits and force between resourceful Bert Wolff, American Intelligence officer, and Major Ludwig von Liszt, highly placed German Staff officer. Caught up in this duel-as bait or prize, no one knew which-is the beautiful, shrewd Marguerite Fresneau, Liszt's mistress.Between the dueling forces is the man Jules-Marie Monaitre-the cynical betrayer-collaborator, the man of Vichy who thinks he can trade "e;masters"e; as casually as mistresses. The Monaitres, the Liszts made French North Africa a wilderness of subtly hazardous intrigue.Upon entering Algiers, Wolff is sent to arrest the Nazi Armistice Commission that had been "e;legally"e; looting the colony. One man is missing, Liszt, of Franco's staff, whom Wolff knew by reputation during his days with the Loyalists in Spain. Liszt is a Junker, contemptuous of Nazi party hacks, with German superiority and destiny deeply rooted in his blood and background. To Wolff Liszt becomes the embodiment of the enemy, martially and emotionally.- Shop: buecher

The Slaves' War: The Civil War in the Words of Former Slaves , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 816min
This is the first narrative of the Civil War told by the very people that it freed. Groundbreaking, compelling, and poignant, The Slaves' War delivers an unprecedented vision of the nation's bloodiest conflict. An acclaimed historian of 19th-century and African American history, Andrew Ward gives us the first narrative of the Civil War told from the perspective of those whose destiny it decided. Woven together from interviews, diaries, letters, and memoirs, here is the Civil War as seen not only from battlefields and camps but also from slave quarters, kitchens, roadsides, and fields. Speaking in a quintessentially American language of biblical power and intensity, body servants, army cooks and launderers, runaways, teamsters, and gravediggers bring the war to life. From slaves' theories about the war's causes to their frank assessments of such figures as Lincoln, Davis, Lee, and Grant; from their searing memories of the carnage of battle to their often startling attitudes toward masters and liberators alike; and from their initial jubilation at the Yankee invasion of the slave South to the crushing disappointment of freedom's promise unfulfilled, The Slaves' War is an engrossing vision of America's Second Revolution. ungekürzt. Alien Agenda: Why They Came Why They Stayed , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 401min
Narrated by a rogue keeper of government secrets, this fact-based thriller begins with the death of America's first Secretary of Defense, James Forrestal, and posits he did not commit suicide but was killed for what he was about to reveal. The story follows the trail of government research past the Manhattan Project and pulls that team of famous physicists to work on Project Rainbow, an outgrowth of secret research during World War II. Real history and real science make this story compelling and not easily dismissed even by UFO reports' most cynical critics. The evidence eventually leads to answer the big questions: what brought the visitors, why have they stayed, what do they want? Hunted by a high-tech FBI unit, the narrator eludes capture and sets a kidnapping in motion that reveals the existence of Melanie, a 10 year old girl prized by the visitors and held captive by the government. More liberators than kidnappers, the group narrowly escapes numerous international agencies engaged in pursuit and delivers Melanie to a remote part of the world where she is safe - for now. ungekürzt. Daughter of the Tree: Walking in the Woods with Sojourner Truth (eBook, ePUB)
Daughter of the Tree brings together themes of nature, spirituality and justice. It is a mystical look at the childhood of Sojourner Truth based on the facts that at the age of 11 years old she created an outdoor prayer house made of willows and gathered herbs in the forest along the Hudson River in New York. Sojourner Truth says in her biography that it was a wild, out of doors life that suited her. We hope that children will be inspired to connect to nature and take charge of their spiritual journey like Sojourner did. Adults who read the book may appreciate the role that spirituality and nature play in helping liberators maintain personal equilibrium. The refrain in the book: "If it matters to the tree, it matters to me" is a wisdom saying as well as a reference to Sojourner's father being nicknamed "the tree". The wisdom saying ¿refers to the symbiotic relationship humans have with trees; as well as the spiritual concept of the tree of life found in Ghanian and Christian culture. Since Sojourner's parents were devout Christians and from the Ghanian culture, Rev Dele imagines how these worldviews may have blended in a way that speaks to the 7 generations- Shop: buecher

Jimmy Stewart: Bomber Pilot , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 335min
Of all the celebrities who served their country during World War II - and they were legion - Jimmy Stewart was unique. On December 7, when the attack on Pearl Harbor woke so many others to the reality of war, Stewart was already in uniform - as a private on guard duty south of San Francisco at the Army Air Corps Moffet Field. Seeing war on the horizon, Jimmy Stewart, at the height of his fame after Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and his Oscar-winning turn in The Philadelphia Story in 1940, had enlisted several months earlier. Jimmy Stewart: Bomber Pilot chronicles his long journey to become a bomber pilot in combat. Author Starr Smith, the intelligence officer assigned to the movie star, recounts how Stewart's first battles were with the Air Corps high command, who insisted on keeping the naturally talented pilot out of harm's way as an instructor pilot for B-17 Flying Fortresses and B-24 Liberators. By 1944, however, Stewart managed to get assigned to a Liberator squadron that was deploying to England to join the mighty Eighth Air Force. Once in the thick of it, he rose to command his own squadron and flew 20 combat missions, including one to Berlin. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Adam Grupper.
