In their collaborative poetry, Dustin Junkert and Shane Moritz drag the compositional practice of Exquisite Corpse kicking and screaming into the 21st century. The two poets finish each other's sentences with often preposterous élan. Their subjects are projectiles of varying gravity launched at a Ouija board planchette. The scenarios they unfold describe a universe of pop-culture misunderstandings. Somewhere at the intersection of David Berman, Anne Sexton, Robert Pinsky, and Stephen Malkmus lies the lyrebird glory of these poems, their impact amplified by David Nichols's original drawings, whose air of tender perplexity provides a perfect emotional accompaniment. "In The Book of Treasures, curators Dustin Junkert and Shane Moritz expertly constitute a kickass hyper-contemporary below-the-bug-line Cabinet of Wonders.-Michael Martone "These paratactic poems deliver the shifting dimensions of life, but also the quick life of impulse They are acrobatically funny and urbane; they're also slyly imbued with pathos. They revel, actively, in the music of the sentence, especially, and in the weird hum of the contemporary western world. -Laura Newbern

No immortal in the history of baseball retired so young, so well, or so completely as Sandy Koufax. After compiling a remarkable record from 1962 to 1966 that saw him lead the National League in ERA all five years, win three Cy Young awards, and pitch four no-hitters including a perfect game, Koufax essentially disappeared. Save for his induction into the Hall of Fame and occasional appearances at the Dodgers training camp, Koufax has remained unavailable, unassailable, and unsullied, in the process becoming much more than just the best pitcher of his generation. He is the Jewish boy from Brooklyn, who refused to pitch the opening game of the 1965 World Series on Yom Kippur, defining himself as a man who placed faith over fame. This act made him the standard to which Jewish parents still hold their children. Except for his autobiography (published in 1966), Koufax has resolutely avoided talking about himself. But through sheer doggedness that even Koufax came to marvel at, Jane Leavy was able to gain his trust to the point where they talked regularly over the three years Leavy reported her book. With Koufax's blessing, Leavy interviewed nearly every one of his former teammates, opponents, and friends, and emerged with a portrait of the artist that is as thorough and stylish as was his command on the pitching mound. WINNER OF THE NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE A luminous collection of essays from Louise Glück, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature and one of our most original and influential poets Five decades after her debut poetry collection, Firstborn, Louise Glück is a towering figure in American letters. Written with the same probing, analytic control that has long distinguished her poetry, American Originality is Glück's second book of essays-her first, Proofs and Theories, won the 1993 PEN/Martha Albrand Award for First Nonfiction. Glück's moving and disabusing lyricism is on full display in this decisive new collection. From its opening pages, American Originality forces readers to consider contemporary poetry and its demigods in radical, unconsoling, and ultimately very productive ways. Determined to wrest ample, often contradictory meaning from our current literary discourse, Glück comprehends and destabilizes notions of "narcissism" and "genius" that are unique to the American literary climate. This includes erudite analyses of the poets who have interested her throughout her own career, such as Rilke, Pinsky, Chiasson, and Dobyns, and introductions to the first books of poets like Dana Levin, Peter Streckfus, Spencer Reece, and Richard Siken. Forceful, revealing, challenging, and instructive, American Originality is a seminal critical achievement.

This first audio edition of Poetry in Person: 25 Years of Conversation with America’s Poets (Knopf, 2010), invites listeners into an intimate classroom with eight acclaimed poets: Robert Pinsky, James Merrill, Lucille Clifton, Edward Hirsch, Paul Muldoon, Muriel Rukeyser, Eamon Grennan, and William Matthews. Full of compelling, in-depth conversation about manuscripts and drafts by the poets themselves, plus readings of the finished poems, these historic recordings offer one of the most detailed portraits ever produced of how poems are actually made. Based on “one of the ten best nonfiction books of 2010”, this audio version of Poetry in Person opens the door to a class run by Pearl London between 1973 and 1998, at the New School in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. London invited scores of poets to bring with them “notes jotted down on the back of an envelope, or worksheets of any sort, even doodles,” for a course she said was concerned “essentially with the making of the poem, with the work in progress as process - with both the vision and the revision.” Poets accepted her invitation one after another, word of mouth spread, and for 25 years her class become home for Nobel Laureates, National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize winners, U.S. Poets Laureate, and dozens of poets at the cusp of their emergence in letters. After London died in 2003, three boxes of cassette tapes were discovered in a closet in her home, containing recordings of a hundred conversations with poets. Eight of those conversations can now be heard as they happened in this first audio edition of Poetry in Person. Audio Production: Jonathan Binzen. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Alexander Neubauer. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/binz/000001/bk_binz_000001_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.
