Prince was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor. He was a musical innovator and known for his eclectic work, flamboyant stage presence, extravagant dress and makeup, and wide vocal range. His music integrates a wide variety of styles, including funk, rock, R&B, new wave, soul, psychedelia, and pop. He has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award for the film Purple Rain. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the first year of his eligibility. Rolling Stone ranked Prince at number 27 on its list of 100 Greatest Artists-"the most influential artists of the rock & roll era". Prince was born in Minneapolis and developed an interest in music as a young child. He signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. at the age of 18, and released his debut album For You in 1978. His 1979 album Prince went platinum, and his next three records - Dirty Mind (1980), Controversy (1981), and 1999 (1982) - continued his success, showcasing Prince's prominently sexual lyrics and blending of funk, dance, and rock music. In 1984, he began referring to his backup band as the Revolution and released Purple Rain, which served as the soundtrack to his eponymous 1984 film debut and was met with widespread acclaim. After releasing the albums Around the World in a Day (1985) and Parade (1986), The Revolution disbanded, and Prince released the double album Sign o' the Times (1987) as a solo artist. The Bookends
Für einen famosen Rock-Gitarristen wie Eric Gales kann es gleichermaßen Fluch und Segen bedeuten, immer wieder mit Übervater Jimi Hendrix in einen Topf geworfen zu werden. Making new things out of old things is an act of alchemy. The proof is in this fifth album no rest for the wicked of Perpignan which is blown right open here and there by a few very contemporary guests. After the opener, Ouverture , with its almost surf-like guitars, comes Le Premier Jour , where Lionel Limiñana talks about his rock baptism with the punks, the mods, the skinheads and the Lambrettas of his youth in the South of France. What comes just after is the seismic shock of Istanbul is Sleepy : the Imprimatur of Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre is simply enormous. Then comes Emmanuelles Seigner s super sexy tornado on the title track, and Dimanche follows, with Bertrand Belin. Lionel sees him as a French Nick Cave who writes songs that resemble films. . The Gift features Peter Hook who scrapes his bass guitar again here, obviously a song reminiscent of an early period New Order. Finally, the Limiñanas on their own send out an instrumental cavalcade with a furious beat, like a Kraut Morricone, Motorizzati Marie followed by Pink Flamingos , introduced with psych rock pads played backwards forming a vaporous song bathed in acoustic arpeggios. A respite in the album before the fuzz and the abyssal bass of Trois Bancs violently shakes the ghost of Gainsbourg: an electroshock in talk over. And to close the scene, a love message: De La Part Des Copains , its organ, its tambourine, its quaver and its brass place it in the classic soundtrack category revered by the band. An ideal conclusion for this incredible faultless record. The rock n roll epiphany thus continues. Avishai Cohen Big Vicious

Painting With
Wann immer Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Avey Tare (David Portner) und Geologist (Brian Weitz) vermelden, sie würden als Animal Collective ein neues Album veröffentlichen, ist in der Indie Welt kollektiver Jubel zu registrieren. So auch geschehen am 30. November letzten Jahres, als sie ihr Album "Painting With" ankündigten. Seit fünfzehn Jahren haben Animal Collective sich der Neuerfindungen von Psychedelia verschrieben. Das Kollektiv, dessen Lineup sowie Einflüsse stetig fluktuieren, stammt urpsrünglich aus Baltimore. Anfang 2015 begann die aktuelle Besetzung, bestehend aus Dave Portner (Avey Tare), Noah Lennox (Panda Bear) und Brian Weitz (Geologist), ihre Arbeit am neuen Material. Das Trio nahm in den legendären EastWest Studios in Hollywood auf, in dem auch schon die Beach Boys Klassiker zu Band brachten. Illustre Gäste wie John Cale und Colin Stetson waren mit von der Partie bei den Aufnahmen. Nach "Centipede HZ" klingt "Painting With" poppiger als selbst "Merryweather Postpavillion" und ist ein energetisches, polyrhytmisches Kaleidoskop aus künstlerischen und zwischenmenschlichen Eindrücken geworden.Das Album erscheint auf CD, LP+MP3 und digital.
