Ladies and Gentlemen: I present to you a jazzy, hip-hop, funky, earthy, and electronic sounding album entitled TRES. Picture this: The word TRES in Spanish means 'three', and the same word in French means 'very'. Mmmmmmm, this presents a dilemma for me. Should I consider this album to be the 'very' one or the 'third' one? Well I tell you what....... I'll take both. This album has the sounds that I enjoy listening too that I basically don't find flourishing in my part the world. But that's who I am: a thinker outside of the box. Ever since I was boy, I used to imagine that I would be able to create a song or many songs that people would understand and like to listen too. Now, that dream has come true. TRES is guaranteed to do one of three things: make you think, enlighten your understanding of my style of music, or make you dance . Either way you're gonna like what you hear. The album is really special to me, not to say that the others weren't special too, but I gave this one a unique touch. The people that are featured on this album came from my time hanging around poets, producers, rappers, singers, and musicians. I'll give you a little background of who they are.... DJ 4 REAL- Is my brother, music and business partner and one of the producers of Triptych Music Group. He is credited for co-producing two of the tracks on this album. Keep doing what you're doing man. They will soon realize that this is 'serious music for serious people'. STAR 45 - comes from the BERMUDA TRI group, he contributes that hard core reggae vocal sound that can be compared to similar Jamaican dancehall toaster in the music biz today. Yagga Yagga....Inna de Matrix..Nuff respect Don. DOUBLE J.- also of the BERMUDA TRI group, first appeared on my second album, JOURNEY THROUGH. Now he's continuing his style of hip hop delivery that I find highly addictive using his native dialect at times. CRYPTIC - also of BERMUDA TRI, was inspired to flow on REASONS UNKNOWN after listening to it for the first time. After learning this, I decided I had to let him do his thing, and showcase his hip hop / reggae brand. L-BOOGIE- of the BERMUDA TRI crew, possesses that sensuous vocal tone that I needed to hear. Her mind blowing poetry is in a league of it's own. Much Love, Sistah ! Rounding out the group is SYNAPSE who is without a doubt thee most important and integral part of BERMUDA TRI and this album. Synapse is rapper and poet, but he's also a producer and sound engineer that has developed this highly prized skill that can take him to far away places beyond the sandy shorelines of Bermuda. Thanks Bro. Moving on, we come to CARLOS RICHARDSON, a guitarist that brought a funky rock edge to my music. He's definitely a talented brother with a Fender, no doubt. Creeping in, but making his presence known is a young MC who I met at CHEWSTICK Neo- Griot here in Bermuda. He certainly has a swagger in the way he brings his potent hip hop lyrics over beats and sounds. Doc Fabulous accompanies BLAC as the singer on THE TIME IS NOW !!! Keep the party jumpin' man. Lastly but by no means the least is the always lovely and talented songstress JOY T. BARNUM. I have worked with Joy on a several occasions, and when I told her that I was working on something that needs her vocals on it, she jumped at the chance and said..... I'll do it. Joy, you are the shining jewel in Bermudian Music. I am so humbled that you've graced me with your musical abilities on TRES. Love you much girl !!! So as you can see, TRES is a beautiful project that certainly requires more than one listening to fully receive a sense of what I've created. To my fans around the world enjoy this one, and get ready to welcome other fans and casual listeners into our family. This Quiet Mile
This Quiet Mile is was recorded in Yoakum's new hometown of Chicago with engineer and producer Christopher Greene at Truself Music. Contemplative and lyric-driven, the album is a reflection on life, love, and growing through where we are to arrive where we're meant to be. The songs were placed approximately in the order that they were written to follow the story line of a life through anger, depression, and resentment into acceptance, forgiveness, and gratitude. Jess Yoakum commissioned the album art by long time friend, Heather Ortiz, to visually reflect this journey. Triangles 4:14 Triangles is about the beginning of the journey: getting in touch with anger. The step that motivates many of us to make a change! I wrote this one a long while ago, and wasn't going to include it on this album... but, people really enjoy this one live and request it. So, I couldn't put out another album without it! Texas 4:16 Texas is about being on the road for work when all you want to do is go home. Lonely hotel rooms, turning the wrong way down halls because they all look so similar! I recently watched Up In the Air and was kind of appalled that some people actually enjoy traveling for work. Incredible movie, though. Hiding Out 4:23 Hiding Out was inspired by a friend who actually said the first line of the song to me. "I don't want to be frustrated because I love her..." And, my first thought really was "it never occurred to me the two states were different." And so Hiding Out was born... The piano riff came to me after obsessively listening to Sia. ? This song talks about the destructive way emotions can take you over and you begin to hide behind them... how anger turns into fear and folds back in on itself until you are consumed. Hold Me In 3:13 I wrote Hold Me In on a train ride home from New York to Boston. I scribbled down some random thoughts about life and love after a conversation I had with a friend who was going through a life-altering break up. I couldn't help but notice how beautiful she looked in the midst of it, though and how much potential her life was opening to. I came across the journal entry months later, and did not remember writing the words... but, decided to set it to music anyway! I emailed several poet and songwriter friends to make sure I wasn't stealing it from anyone! It wasn't until I got to the bridge that I remembered what it was about. ? Breathe Child 3:33 Breathe Child was given to me by the universe as a lullaby for hard nights. I finished it sitting by the shore of a reservoir outside of Boston on a beautiful day. I looked for that reservoir several times again, and could never figure out where I had driven that day. The whole experience of receiving this song was mystical. This Quiet Mile 4:35 Co-written by friend and songstress, Chet Easton. This Quiet Mile follows a long term relationship through the seasons... and arrives at a quiet conclusion. We never know where we're headed, and it's never where we thought we would. But, if we keep our eyes open and one foot in front of the other - we all eventually find our way home. Find Our Way 3:22 Find Our Way is about making peace with an imperfect relationship and the constant, relentless seeking for completion and resolution. This is the beginning of acceptance of another for who they are. Smiling when they criticize. Knowing that we are all doing the best we can. Chicago Song 3:39 Named as an homage to my new city, this song is about my decision to move to Chicago. The hope, anticipation and excited I felt standing on the edge of my new city. All the planning, hesitation and dreaming that led up to the move. Dedicated to the courage in each of us to lay down what's not working and begin again. The Morning 4:17 You wake up and reality sets in... this is not easy. Going alone. Giving up what I know. What have I done? How is it you can know you've made the right decision and it is still so hard to breathe? Unrequited 2:53 Unrequited is about the enticing sexiness of being loved more than you love back. And the weight and responsibility of that realization. Towards the Sun 3:15 Ok, enough already with the angst... let me move onto my new life and look back in gratitude for all that's been and where we've arrived. With a heart-flooding sound and unusually captivating lyrics she is sweeping onto the modern music scene like a Pacific storm, answering for us the question, "What kind of music would come out of a girl raised away from main-stream society and institutionalized schooling, surrounded only by musical instruments, overflowing bookshelves, and thriving wilderness?" Since the release of her debut album, Heart to Sky in 2010, Daemon is quickly finding a home in the popular Canadian music scene. Besides receiving attention from television and radio media, Daemon has toured the country twice, stunning audiences at such events as the Victoria Jazz Festival, Campbell Bay Music Fest and the infamous ArtsWells Music Festival in Wells B.C.
