We are all familiar with Angels. In churches, we see them in stained-glass windows, sculpted as statues and painted on altarpieces. We find them on greeting cards, on the tops of Christmas trees and we even dress up children to look like them. Indeed, in our imagination they look positively human with the exception that, unlike us, they have wings. Is any of this true and if it is, might "Angel" simply be a name for an extraterrestrial? In this series of lectures Adrian Gilbert (renowned author and lecturer) examines the subject of angelology in depth, both from the perspective of the biblical scriptures and that of other cultures. Explore the story of Adam and Eve, relating the story to Hermetic teachings, the Book of Enoch and Greek mythology as it relates to Angels and the possibility that extraterrestrials visited Earth in ancient times. War and Peace is one of the greatest monuments in world literature. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, it examines the relationship between the individual and the relentless march of history. Here are the universal themes of love and hate, ambition and despair, youth and age, expressed with a swirling vitality which makes the book as accessible today as it was when it was first published in 1869. In addition it is, famously, one of the longest books in Western literature and therefore a remarkable challenge for any reader. Neville Jason read the abridged version of War and Peace and proved his marathon powers with his outstanding performance of Proust's Remembrance of Things Past. These make him the ideal narrator to essay Tolstoy's epic. War and Peace was translated by Louise and Aylmer Maude. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Neville Jason.
