    Seit mehr als 170 Jahren werden in Kassel Lokomotiven gebaut. 1848 lieferte Henschel mit der Fabriknummer 1 die Lok "Drache" an die Friedrich-Wilhelms-Nordbahn. Bis 1900 waren es bereits mehr als 5.000 Maschinen, die auf dem immer größer werdenden Schienennetz erfolgreich unterwegs waren. In den folgenden Jahren gehörte Henschel zu den erfolgreichsten Herstellern von Eisenbahnfahrzeugen, dessen Entwicklungsabteilung viele markante Konstruktionen hervorgebracht hat, so u.a. die Stromlinien-Lokomotiven für die LBE und die Baureihe 61 für den Henschel-Wegmann-Zug. 1941 konnte mit der Dampfmotorlok 19 1001 die Fabriknummer 25.000 belegt werden. Seit den sechziger Jahren hat der Lokomotivbau in Kassel viele Eigentümer gesehen. 2001 ging der Schienenfahrzeugbau schließlich an Bombardier Transportation über, die weiterhin am Standort erfolgreich Triebfahrzeuge bauen, so u.a. die erfolgreichen Lokomotiven der TRAXX-Plattform. Wir zeigen in unserem Film das ganze Spektrum der mehr als 35.000 Henschel-Lokomotiven in historischen Szenen und aktuellen Aufnahmen im Werk in Kassel, im Einsatz, in Museen sowie in Betriebswerken.
