Winner of the 2015 Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in historical romantic mystery and suspense! Can a curse strike twice in a woman's life? In 1854, 17-year-old chambermaid Clara Crofton was dismissed from Gravesend Hall for having fallen in love with Richard Blackwood, the younger son of the house. Alone in the world, Clara found a tenuous position as a seamstress, but she always blamed the Gravesend curse for the disaster that had befallen her - and for Richard's death soon after in the Crimean War. Now, more than 18 years later, Richard's twin, Atticus, seeks out Clara with a strange proposal: If she will marry him and live with him as his wife in name only to ease the mind of his dying father, Atticus will then endow her with a comfortable income for the rest of her life. Clara knows that he is not disclosing his true motives, but when she runs out of options for an independent life, she has no choice but to become Atticus' wife. For Clara, returning to Gravesend as a bride brings some triumph...but also great unease. Not only must she pretend to be a well-born lady and devoted wife to a man whose face is a constant reminder of the love she lost, but ominous portents whisper that her masquerade brings grave danger. "This house will take from you what you most treasure," her mother once warned her. But the curse has already taken the man Clara loved. Will it now demand her life? Black Fall: A Jessica Blackwood Novel , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 690min
In Black Fall, the third book in the ITW Award-nominated series that began with the self-published phenomenon Angel Killer, magician-turned-FBI agent Jessica Blackwood investigates a series of seemingly unrelated but equally bizarre and sinister crimes that lead her to the Colorado desert and a town that has simply disappeared. With two big cases under her belt, FBI agent Jessica Blackwood is learning to embrace her unconventional past as the rising star in a family dynasty of illusionists. Her talent and experience endow her with a unique understanding of the power and potential of deception and a gift for knowing when things are not always as they appear to be. Once resenting her eccentric grandfather, a brilliant magician in his own right, Jessica now sees him as a mentor and regularly seeks his advice about her work. But Jessica's routine surveillance operation becomes a fight for survival when a disturbed young woman, clutching a baby, shows up at the stakeout location and threatens to kill her child. On the same day, an hour after a severe earthquake rocks the Eastern seaboard, a strange video goes viral. Nobel Prize-winning physicist Peter Devon has been dead for eight years, yet here he is on camera, predicting the location and date of the earthquake. Jessica is put on the case by her boss, Dr. Ailes, but when Detective Aileen Lewis reports that they've found a Jane Doe who matches her description of her attacker, she's torn between professional duty and a personal desire to find out who the woman was, and why she was killed. The investigations pull her in very different directions - until they start to converge, leading Jessica to confront something darker and more powerful than anyone expected. Something so twisted, only one person could be behind it...the Warlock. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jennifer O'Donnell, Fred Berman. 02-Anne-Sophie Bertrand
The production 02 of the KATZENBERGER MUSIC PRODUCTIONS record label revolves around an instrument which possesses a striking vibrancy and which is - quite wrongly - rarely featured as a solo instrument: the harp. Besides renowned composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Claude Debussy and Isaac Albeniz, this hybrid SACD also features a world premier recording by Jean Françaix: the "Suite pour Harpe". The internationally highly acclaimed soloist Anne-Sophie Bertrand is featured on this recording. She has the ability to endow each piece with a unique touch thanks to her extraordinary expressiveness and broad experience with old and new music. Both connoisseurs and music lovers are provided with an extensive overview of music history spanning three centuries and offering, by all means, new insights into the expressive world of the harp's sound. The selected works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Handel are samples of the instrument's first golden age during the Baroque era. This includes the various dances of the Suite, the freedom of imagination, as well as polyphonic patterns - respectively rendered as stylistically sound adaptations. As far as the Romantic era is concerned, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's creative involvement with his idol Bach is featured along with the outstanding virtuosity of Elias Parish Alvars, the so-called "Liszt of the harp". Eventually, the characteristic Spanish sound of a spirited dance by Isaac Albeniz has been included in this recording. Special attention is given to the French composers' infatuation with the harp: original works by Gabriel Fauré and Jean Françaix which are not known well enough yet as well as an adaptation of a piano prelude by Claude Debussy are featured on the SACD. Finally, featuring the Russian composer Sergey Prokofiev and one of his preludes as well as the world premier recording of the moderately "modern" Suite by Jean Françaix clearly underpins the lively interest composers of the 20th century took in the tonal range of today's concert harp. Including an extensive booklet and some unique specials, this SACD will offer you a truly rare listening experience. Enjoy this feast for the ears!- Shop: odax
