Executed Unjustly: True Stories of People Executed Wrongfully, Or Were They? , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 129min
Executed Unjustly: True Stories of People Executed Wrongfully, or Were They? recounts the true stories of people who were accused, convicted, and executed for crimes. Some of them were later officially exonerated for the crimes, and for others the preponderance of evidence today shows they were executed wrongfully, though they were never officially found innocent. The cases occurred in the United States, and it will be shown that our judicial system doesn't always result in fair decisions. It seems unimaginable to most of us that totally innocent people would actually lose their lives due to fear, social inequality, legal ineptitude, and downright criminal acts by those who promised to uphold the law. Some of the cases included are: Josefa Rodriguez - the only woman legally hanged in Texas Joe Arridy - a man with the mind of a six year old Leo Alexander Jones - a series of blunders and errors signed his death warrant Carlos DeLuna - a case of mistaken identity Be prepared to be shocked at the details of these cases and the tragic reasons and ways the innocent died. ungekürzt. Death of a Dude , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 375min
The mountain couldn't come to Wolfe, so the great detective came to the mountain - to Lame Horse, Montana, to be exact. Here a city slicker got a country girl pregnant and then took a bullet in the back. Wolfe's job was to get an innocent man exonerated of the crime and catch a killer in the process. But when he packed his silk pajamas and headed west, he found himself embroiled in a case rife with local cynicism, slipshod police work, and unpleasant political ramifications. In fact, Nero Wolfe was buffaloed until the real killer struck again, underestimating the dandified dude with an unerring instinct for detection. Introduction by Don Coldsmith.“It is always a treat to read a Nero Wolfe mystery. The man has entered our folklore.” (The New York Times Book Review)A grand master of the form, Rex Stout is one of America’s greatest mystery writers, and his literary creation Nero Wolfe is one of the greatest fictional detectives of all time. Together, Stout and Wolfe have entertained - and puzzled - millions of mystery fans around the world. Now, with his perambulatory man-about-town, Archie Goodwin, the arrogant, gourmandizing, sedentary sleuth is back in the original 73 cases of crime and detection written by the inimitable master himself, Rex Stout. ungekürzt. Freeing David McCallum: The Last Miracle of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 560min
In April 2014, Rubin "Hurricane" Carter died after a long battle with cancer. David McCallum was exonerated and freed two months later, after serving 29 years in prison. This is the story of how Carter and his friend and coauthor Ken Klonsky worked for 10 years to help free the wrongfully convicted McCallum, along with a group of committed friends and professionals. It details their struggles from founding an innocence project to take on the case, to finding lawyers willing to work pro bono, to hiring a private detective to sift through old evidence and locate original witnesses, and the most difficult part, convincing members of a deeply flawed criminal justice system to reopen a case that would expose their own mistakes when all they wanted to do was ignore the conflicting evidence. Finally it took a new district attorney, a documentary film, and an op-ed piece written by Carter on his death bed published in the New York Daily News that made a plea for McCallum's release and turned the tide of justice. Freeing David McCallum tells a tale of frustration, agony, and undying hope, and the miracle that resulted in David's release. ungekürzt. Language: English. Hyacinth Girls: A Novel , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 559min
Like New York Times bestseller Reconstructing Amelia, a stunning debut about a young teenager on the brink and a parent desperate to find the truth before it's too late. Thirteen year old Callie is accused of bullying at school, but Rebecca knows the kind and gentle girl she's raised is innocent. While Callie is eventually exonerated, threatening notes from her alleged victim, Robyn, begin to surface, and as the notes become suicidal, Rebecca is determined to save the unbalanced Robyn. As Rebecca navigates school disapproval and mean moms while trying to comfort Callie and help Robyn, she recalls her own intense betrayals and best-friendships at that age. Then, her failure to understand those closest to her led to losing them forever, and she's determined that this story will end differently. But Rebecca has failed to understand what is really happening in Callie's life, and now Callie is in terrible danger. This raw and beautiful story investigates the intensity of adolescent emotions and the complex identity of a teenage girl. Hyacinth Girls looks unflinchingly at how cruelty exists in all of us, and how our worst impulses can sometimes estrange us from ourselves - or save us. ungekürzt. Language: English.
