Here's a free excerpt from the book: This chapter talks about the admission process of West Point Facility, a center that turns cadets into soldiers for the nation. The admission process starts from the junior year and it is after several long procedures that the candidate gets admission into this center but it turns out that hundreds leave the course within the two-month initiation training and this sheds light on the uselessness of the admission procedure. The most important part of the admission procedure should be capable of predicting who would stay and yet no number of psychologists has been able to recognize the variable that determines the future of the cadet in the center. The author was the first to recognize that there is something different about the pupils who end up staying in the program and after a lot of testing; she discovered that it is the eagerness and tenacity within an individual that perfectly predicts their staying power. The Whole Candidate Score used by West Point was useless in this quest while Grit Scale predicted the retaining will of pupils easily. Not only did Grit Scale perfectly predict the tenacity in cadets but also in competitors in spelling competitions and students of high schools, for their future in the education system. Here's an excerpt from the book: The story, documenting the horrors of slavery and the hope instilled by the Underground Railroad, is set in the 1800s. Cora is a teenager who may not even be 17 years old yet. She is a slave at Randall plantation in Georgia and is the third generation of captives there. Cora's grandmother, Ajarry, was kidnapped by Dahomeyan raiders from her village and separated from her family when she was really young. She spent her life picking cotton on the plantation after being brutalized and raped and passing through a chain of owners. Ajarry had three husbands during her lifetime and of her five children, Cora's mother was the only one who survived. While Ajarry died on the plantation, Cora's mother, Mabel, escaped from the farm when Cora was 10 or 11. Cora despises her mother and has an array of negative emotions towards her for leaving her behind to face the brutality of the plantation alone. Cora has seen it all from extremely hard labor to rape, and witnessing torture. Life on the plantation is a never-ending black hole that sucks every positive thing inside. When another slave, Caesar, puts forward the proposition that Cora run away with him to the north, Cora declines at first since she does not want to die a quick death. Note: This is an unofficial summary and analysis of The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. This summary and analysis is not endorsed by or affiliated with Margaret Atwood. Here's a free excerpt from the book: The narrator of the book is an unnamed woman throughout the length of the novel. In the start of the book, the narrator is kept inside a high school's gymnasium (The Rachel and Leah Center, informally known as The Red Center) and several other females are also there. Aunt Elizabeth and Aunt Sara serve as guards and discipline them. While these two utilize cattle prods to intimidate, other guards possess guns. The women have to stay in the gym except for the walks they are allowed to take twice a day. The school's field is shielded by barbed wire and male guards known as Angels. The women are forbidden from talking among themselves and exchange names via lip-reading. Subsequently, the narrator is inside a room that is white and scarcely furnished. The room does not contain anything that can be utilized as a weapon. As she hears a bell, the narrator changes into red attire engulfing her entire frame. A shade covers her face. She descends the stairs with her shopping basket. The narrator enters the kitchen and receives some tokens from Rita, the cook. Rita is a 'Martha' and dressed in green. The name of the cleaner is Cora. The narrator wants to have conversations with the two like they do with each other but the Marthas are not supposed to have conversations with her kind. She remembers Luke. Rita orders the narrator to go to the market. If you want to know more, download and start listening now - even if it's 3 a.m.! I hate to think of the day when nobody remembers me as an actor, and I can’t get good tables in restaurants.” (Paul Henreid) Although he had a long career as an actor and director, Paul Henreid is certainly best remembered for two films he made in the early 1940s: Now, Voyager with Bette Davis and Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.Born in Trieste and raised in Vienna, Henreid began his acting career under the direction of legendary director Max Reinhardt, but left the European continent when the Nazis came to power. In England, he found work on both stage (Victoria Regina) and in films (Goodbye, Mr. Chips, Night Train to Munich). However, after Hitler invaded Austria, his status in the UK became tenuous. He took his first opportunity to move to the United States where his film career flourished...until he and other Hollywood folks opposed the House Committee on Un-American Activities. Michael B. Druxman’s Paul Henreid is set in 1968 and finds the actor in Nice, France, about to co-star in a film with Katharine Hepburn. He has just learned that his friend, the movie’s original director, has quit the production and must decide whether he will do the same. UNKNOWN N N ©2020 Michael B. Druxman;(P)2020 Michael B.
