Mein Interesse war geweckt, und ich wollte eine Doktorarbeit über Schostakowitsch schreiben - mein Göttinger Doktorvater Heinrich Husmann bewog mich zu einer Untersuchung nicht allein über Schostakowitsch, sondern über eine ganze Generation der sowjetischen Komponisten der zwanziger Jahre, unter der Schostakowitsch einen herausragenden Platz einnimmt.
