A brief history of the West Vancouver Police Department (Tiddly Cove P.D.) with an introduction to some of the characters that worked in the organization. The author then relates stories of his early days as a constable with some of the adventures he encountered which included wrestling with a cow on a local beach, investigating shoplifting gangs affiliated with the Hell's Angels outlaw biker gang. He also describes some novel ways that police officers dealt with motorists including an encounter that Constable Dave Marskell had with the mother of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and how Cst. Ed Fydirchuk dealt with "road rage". He exposes the listener to some of the humour that police officers use to deal with the stress and sometimes traumatic things they encounter in their workplace. The author then goes on to explore his career in criminal investigation when he is promoted to the rank of Detective. Again we see some of the humorous sides to police work, as well exploring the darker side of child sexual assault and the investigation that takes place before a prosecution. While the West Vancouver Police Department is a smaller one, approximately 100 sworn members, the investigations are far ranging and extend throughout North America and as far as Europe. The crimes of arson, extortion, fraud, robbery, and murder are all investigated. There is even an encounter with former members of The Mossad! Listeners will meet the prolific bank robber and purloiner of luxury yachts, Eric Valois, who would lead Detective Leishman on a chase throughout the USA before convincing a gullible Quebec Provincial Police Officer that he could solve the "Air India" bombing and having them assist him in escaping custody. After he was arrested in Greece for stealing a luxury yacht. He was declared dead when he jumped overboard while being escorted to prison, but was returned from the dead when he was arrested for drug dealing in the United Kingdom! ungekürzt. Language: English. The law of attraction is based on the idea that everything in the universe has a "polarity", meaning that everything - from the food you eat, to the people you talk to, to the things you say, to the things you think - contains an either positive or negative kind of energy. Notice that being with people who complain or rant a lot tends to make you feel bad, even though you're not exactly experiencing what they're going through - that's the law of attraction working its magic. When you focus on negative stuff, then more negative stuff will happen to you. On the other hand, when you focus on positive stuff, then more positive stuff will happen to you. Fortunately, there is a way to manipulate the law of attraction and make it work for you: by changing your beliefs, using the power of positive affirmation. Positive affirmations give you a fresh pair of eyes to see the world and, therefore, give you courage to achieve a lot of things you never knew were possible. ungekürzt. Language: English. 'Essential reading for anyone interested in the heady, vulgar, marvellous miasma of British music and culture in the nineties' - Irving Welsh'A true believer in the power of music and more importantly a believer in the people that make music. He gave me and many more like me a chance to change my life' - Noel GallagherAlan McGee's Creation Stories is a star-studded, outrageous, funny and anarchic account of the record label he set up and the bands that defined an era, including Primal Scream and Oasis.A charismatic Glaswegian who partied just as hard as any of the acts on his notoriously hedonistic label, Alan McGee became an infamous character in the world of music in the nineties. In Creation Stories he tells his story in depth for the first time, from leaving school at sixteen to setting up the Living Room club in London which showcased many emerging indie bands, from managing the Jesus and Mary Chain to co-founding Creation when he was only twenty-three. His label brought us acts like My Bloody Valentine, House of Love, Ride and, of course, Primal Scream. Embracing acid house, Alan decamped to Manchester and hung out at the Hacienda. His drug-induced breakdown, when it came, was dramatic. But as he climbed back to sobriety, he oversaw Oasis's rise to become one of the biggest bands in the world. Alan himself becoming one of the figureheads of Britpop. Having sold the label to Sony to stave off bankruptcy, he became disenchanted with the increasingly corporate ethos and left in 1999. Since then he's continued to be an influential figure in the music industry, managing the Libertines and setting up a new label, 359 Music, with Cherry Red.'Studded with diamond anecdotes . . . From mixing sound for My Bloody Valentine on mushrooms, via driving motorists off the road by commissioning billboard posters of Kevin Rowland flashing his pants, to escorting Carl Barat to A&E with one eyeball hanging out of its socket, the book bursts with tall-but-true tales.' - NME

This guide, drawn from our complete guide to the Sierra Nevada, focuses on Yosemite, Sierra National Forest, King's Canyon, Fresno and their surroundings. Twenty-five million years ago, Yosemite Valley was a lush lowland bordered by gentle hills. Half Dome's ancestor was only 1,500 feet tall. The river was sluggish as it flowed through the valley. The land was subtropical and rain frequently drenched the valley. The river eventually carved a 20,000-foot, V-shaped canyon as it rushed toward the sea. Twelve million years later, a huge uplift of the region occurred and snow capped the highest peaks. Erosion removed the soil above the granite base and a cool climate changed the environment as hardwood and evergreen trees began to grow, and possibly the first sequoias. The region began to look like what we see today. Today, the park occupies 1,169 square miles. The valley is about seven miles long and three-quarters of a mile wide - in other words, 1% of the park. There are 196 miles of primary roads and 800 miles of trails in the park; much of it is accessible to motorists and hikers. The main entrance to Yosemite Valley is made from the west through the dark Wawona Tunnel. After the road breaks into bright sunshine, El Capitan rears to 3,000 feet above the pine and fir-clad slopes above the valley on your left side. As you continue through the valley, Bridalveil Falls seems to emerge from the side of a mountain on your right, its mistlike water pouring 620 feet. It reaches its peak flow in May when warm temperatures dissolve the snows of winter. This remarkable guide details everything you need to know about exploring Yosemite and the surrounding parks and forests - not just the major tourist sites, but many unforgettable places few tourists ever discover. Everything you need to know about the many, many hiking and biking trails is here, as well as the beautiful rivers and lakes, the rock-climbing, the fishing, where to stay, where to eat and much more. ungekürzt.
