Soul Story: Evolution and the Purpose of Life , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 343min
The emergence of soul, meaning, and immortalityThe grand religious stories that gave meaning to life and death in the past have crumbled under sceptical scrutiny. The dominant mainstream philosophy is now scientific objectivism, which describes a universe that exists for no reason and a life that ends in oblivion. Pioneering philosopher Tim Freke addresses the "soul crisis" in modern culture that has arisen from lack of meaning. He offers an intelligent "spiritual" perspective on life and death to help us make sense of a paradoxical world, which is sometimes bleak and banal, but also can be magical and full of significance. He presents a revolutionary paradigm shift in our understanding of reality that integrates the deepest insights of science and spirituality to create a new model of human identity, which makes the idea of the immortal soul intellectually credible. He explores the process of evolution, not as blind chance, but as the momentous story of the self-realising universe. The development of the material world has led to the emergence of "psyche" or "soul," which you are experiencing right now as a stream of thoughts and images that don't exist in space and aren't made of matter. We are not insignificant specks in a vast purposeless cosmos. We are significant participants in the magnificent and meaningful story of soul. The universe is coming to know itself through each one of us and this process doesn't end at death, because the evolution of soul has also been the evolution of immortality. ungekürzt. Atlas Shrugged (eBook, ePUB)
Peopled by larger-than-life heroes and villains, charged with towering questions of good and evil, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus: a philosophical revolution told in the form of an action thriller-nominated as one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read. Who is John Galt? When he says that he will stop the motor of the world, is he a destroyer or a liberator? Why does he have to fight his battles not against his enemies but against those who need him most? Why does he fight his hardest battle against the woman he loves? You will know the answer to these questions when you discover the reason behind the baffling events that play havoc with the lives of the amazing men and women in this book. You will discover why a productive genius becomes a worthless playboy...why a great steel industrialist is working for his own destruction...why a composer gives up his career on the night of his triumph...why a beautiful woman who runs a transcontinental railroad falls in love with the man she has sworn to kill. Atlas Shrugged, a modern classic and Rand's most extensive statement of Objectivism-her groundbreaking philosophy-offers the reader the spectacle of human greatness, depicted with all the poetry and power of one of the twentieth century's leading artists.- Shop: buecher

The Verdict: The Christina Boyer Case
Jan Banning's latest book is a multi-layered case study of the US Criminal Justice system and mass incarceration. In it he delves into a three decades old murder case in Georgia. On April 14, 1992, 22-year-old Christina Boyer was arrested for the murder of her toddler daughter Amber and sentenced to life in prison. Banning questions her guilt. The book presents the results of his extensive research. Combining documentary as well as staged photos with texts, it unravels the role of the media, presents analyses by medical professionals, and gives Banning's own visual interpretation of elements of the story. Besides, Banning invited the 'subject' of the project, Christina Boyer, to be an active participant in it. Boyer allowed Banning to disclose pages from her diaries and also gives viewers an insight into her inner world by writing her associations with his photos from Georgia, thereby giving an impression of how such an incarceration influences one's perception of the visual world. Stylistically, the book contains references to film noir, 19th-century Romantic landscapes and 17th Century Vanitas still lifes. It poses deep questions about about objectivism versus subjectivism. In the end, the audience is challenged to judge for themselves. The entirety of the artistic visual interpretations and documentation collected presents a major political story in a unique way.- Shop: buecher

Ayn Rand Set: The Fountainhead/Atlas Shrugged
Two Ayn Rand classics-Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead-together for the first time in a boxed set. Peopled by larger-than-life heroes and villains, charged with towering questions of good and evil, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus: a philosophical revolution told in the form of an action thriller. It is the story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world-and did. Was he a destroyer or the greatest of liberators? Why did he have to fight his battle, not against his enemies but against those who needed him most-and his hardest battle against the woman he loved? What is the world's motor-and the motive power of every man? The Fountainhead is the revolutionary literary vision that sowed the seeds of Objectivism, Ayn Rand's groundbreaking philosophy, and brought her immediate worldwide acclaim. This modern classic is the story of intransigent young architect Howard Roark, whose integrity was as unyielding as granite...of Dominique Francon, the exquisitely beautiful woman who loved Roark passionately, but married his worst enemy...and of the fanatic denunciation unleashed by an enraged society against a great creator. As fresh today as it was then, Rand's provocative novel presents one of the most challenging ideas in all of fiction-that man's ego is the fountainhead of human progress...- Shop: buecher
