A blistering crime saga, perfect for fans of Don Winslow and Elmore Leonard, of broken loyalties, family obligations, and a heroin deal gone horribly right. Dicky Flanagan has been the crown prince of Shadow Beach his entire life. The grandson of the man who built it from nothing into a homey surf town, the son of the volatile father who ruled over the pier and beach below with a tripwire temper and a charming grin, and the brother of an odd, but gifted, murdered child - an event that kept Dicky out of the water and buried deep in a drug-fueled haze. To get his father out of prison, Dicky needs to scrounge together six figures as fast as he can, and the opportunity presents itself in a high-risk drug deal on the Mexican border, running heroin from the cartels to an equally violent group of white supremacists. Getting the drugs back without getting himself jailed or killed is only step one. Step two is getting his father sprung. Step three is saving the family bar from the corporate vultures picking apart his town. The final step is getting his life back on track by winning back Lainey - the one that got away - along with the son he never knew. And every step brings Dicky back to the tragedies of the past, and the mess he's made of his present. Told with effortless charm and a simmering tension, Chris Fraser pens a fully realized portrait of a man who needs to get back into the water - because the waves he's trying to navigate on land keep pulling him under. ungekürzt. The number-one New York Times best seller! This extraordinary true story, read by the author, is the basis for the Academy Award winning film BlacKkKlansman, written and directed by Spike Lee, produced by Jordan Peele, and starring John David Washington and Adam Driver.     When detective Ron Stallworth, the first black detective in the history of the Colorado Springs Police Department, comes across a classified ad in the local paper asking for all those interested in joining the Ku Klux Klan to contact a PO box, Detective Stallworth does his job and responds with interest, using his real name while posing as a white man. He figures he’ll receive a few brochures in the mail, maybe even a magazine, and learn more about a growing terrorist threat in his community. A few weeks later the office phone rings, and the caller asks Ron a question he thought he’d never have to answer: “Would you like to join our cause?” This is 1978, and the KKK is on the rise in the United States. Its Grand Wizard, David Duke, has made a name for himself, appearing on talk shows and in major magazine interviews preaching a “kinder” Klan that wants nothing more than to preserve a heritage and to restore a nation to its former glory. Ron answers the caller’s question that night with a yes, launching what is surely one of the most audacious and incredible undercover investigations in history. Ron recruits his partner, Chuck, to play the "white" Ron Stallworth while Stallworth himself conducts all subsequent phone conversations. During the months-long investigation, Stallworth sabotages cross burnings, exposes white supremacists in the military, and even befriends David Duke himself.  Black Klansman is an amazing true story that unfolds like a crime thriller and a searing portrait of a divided America and the extraordinary heroes who dare to fight back. ungekürzt. Until now, Noah has been protected from one simple truth: he was born to be a slave. Not only that, his stepsister is about to take control. When he turns 18, Noah will no longer be allowed to think of himself as an independent man. Instead, he’ll be tamed and taught to recognize his inferior status as a male…and it’s Jessica who’s going to teach him. These stepsiblings have been friends up until this point, but their relationship needs to change as the world evolves and males are demoted. From now on, she’s the owner. And he’s her property.Noah might not be able to accept this at first, but Jessica has been well-trained by her fellow female supremacists. She drags him down into the basement, and when he tries to leave, she stops him. It isn’t difficult for a girl who’s been thoroughly trained in martial arts and self-defense. She can knock him to the floor, pin him, and humiliate him over and over.It won’t take much for Jessica to strap him down onto a spanking bench. And that’s when his new life can truly begin. She’ll have so much fun using his lips, butt, and manhood. Whether he likes it or not, Noah will be lowered to the status of a toy. And if he tries to fight back, she can always spank him or worse. Her hairbrush can be a very effective implement of discipline if he tries to talk back.Of course, he might accept his enslavement for a few minutes or hours. If she really wishes to break this boy, she’s going to need something else, something a little bit more permanent…This 10,000 word story features female supremacy, bondage, pegging, spankings, and male chastity devices. Learn About Thurgood Marshall, the NAACP, and Some of the Most Influential Civil Rights Legal Cases in American History in a Fraction of the Time! Thurgood Marshall rides the train in the Jim Crow car (the one directly behind the engine) to the American South to defend yet another black citizen in court. Marshall, who was the grandson of a mixed-race slave, is an integral part of the growing civil rights movement in America. His father and uncle worked as porters on the railroad, and he himself worked as a waiter in the dining car during college. This history creates a sense of comfort and belonging for him as he travels by train, crisscrossing the country defending equality and civil rights. By now, he has built up an impressive list of legal victories on behalf of, usually falsely accused or framed, black citizens (often in the extremely racist American South). Although he has been successful, the plight of those whom he was unable to help haunts him as he drifts in and out of sleep on the train. He sees the photos of young black men, lynched by white supremacists, who took matters of "justice" into their own hands. The most disturbing for him, however, is the photo of young white children posing near the corpse of Rubin Stacy as it hangs from a tree, smiling and oblivious to the cruelty of what has just taken place. To Marshall, this photo represents the next generation of white children being brought up to actively hate and discriminate against black people, or at least to be indifferent to their suffering. Here is a preview of what you'll learn: How civil rights lawyers chose which cases to pursue The reason why many law officials were not punished for breaking the law How Thurgood Marshall and his team escaped attacks from police and mobs ungekürzt. Winner of the Lillian Smith Book Award An award-winning constitutional law historian examines case-based evidence of the court's longstanding racial bias (often under the guise of "states rights") to reveal how that prejudice has allowed the court to solidify its position as arguably the most powerful branch of the federal government. One promise of democracy is the right of every citizen to vote. And yet, from our founding, strong political forces were determined to limit that right. The Supreme Court, Alexander Hamilton wrote, would protect the weak against this very sort of tyranny. Still, as On Account of Race forcefully demonstrates, through the better part of American history the Court has instead been a protector of white rule. And complex threats against the right to vote persist even today. Beginning in 1876, the Supreme Court systematically dismantled both the equal protection guarantees of the Fourteenth Amendment and what seemed to be the right to vote in the Fifteenth. And so a half million African Americans across the South who had risked their lives and property to be allowed to cast ballots were stricken from voting rolls by white supremacists. This vacuum allowed for the rise of Jim Crow. None of this was done in the shadows-those determined to wrest the vote from black Americans could not have been more boastful in either intent or execution. On Account of Race tells the story of an American tragedy, the only occasion in United States history in which a group of citizens who had been granted the right to vote then had it stripped away. It is a warning that the right to vote is fragile and must be carefully guarded and actively preserved lest American democracy perish.
