The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is the longest major poem by the English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, written in 1797 to '98 and published in 1798 in the first edition of Lyrical Ballads. Some modern editions use a revised version printed in 1817 that featured a gloss. Along with other poems in Lyrical Ballads, it is often considered a signal shift to modern poetry and the beginning of British Romantic literature.  The Rime of the Ancient Mariner relates the experiences of a sailor who has returned from a long sea voyage. The mariner stops a man who is on the way to a wedding ceremony and begins to narrate a story. The wedding-guest's reaction turns from bemusement to impatience to fear to fascination as the mariner's story progresses, as can be seen in the language style: Coleridge uses narrative techniques such as personification and repetition to create a sense of danger, the supernatural, or serenity, depending on the mood in different parts of the poem. ungekürzt. Even in the age of the genome and sophisticated biotechnology, medical progress still moves at a snail's pace. Seasoned investigators are matured by experience and they accept the virtue of the too-slow scientific process. The young, however have been brought up in a world of instant gratification, and they barrel ahead never looking back to see the havoc in their wake. So it is with Dr. Harmony Lane. In her single-minded obsession to cure her patients, she cuts corners and treats a desperately ill woman with an experimental viral vector provided by an unscrupulous research scientist. While he shares her impatience, he cares nothing for her humanistic sensibilities. She uses a similar vector on her patients with autoimmune diseases. While the vector has remarkable curative properties, it soon becomes clear that it has devastating and lethal side effects. The race is on to cure or at least control the vector before it kills again. The novel proves, once again, that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". ungekürzt. Language: English. The Unveiling, the first book in the Age of Faith series, introduced listeners to the formidable Wulfrith family during Duke Henry's battle for England's throne in 1153. Now, four years later, Henry wears the crown, but the Wulfriths are no less defiant - and no more amenable to forging alliances through king-decreed marriage. She had killed a man. Or so it was said.... Convent-bound Lady Beatrix Wulfrith is determined to aid her sister in escaping marriage to their family's enemy. Unaware of the sacrifice that awaits her, she leads their pursuers astray only to meet with an accident that forever alters her destiny and takes the life of a young knight whose brother vows he will not rest until the lady is brought to justice. Lord Michael D'Arci is a warrior and a womanizer whose foul mouth and impatience bode ill for all who trespass against him. Falsely accused of ravishment years earlier, he refuses to believe Lady Beatrix's accusations against his deceased brother. However, when he finds himself at the mercy of that same woman who clings to her convictions and faith even when it threatens to prove her undoing, his quest for justice wavers. ungekürzt. The fifteenth fostering memoir by Cathy Glass. Danny was petrified and clung to me in desperation as I carried him to my car. Trapped in his own dark world, he couldn't understand why his parents no longer loved or wanted him and were sending him away. While Danny's parents have everything they could wish for in material terms, they are unable to care for their only child. This is where Cathy comes in. On a cold, dark evening, Danny finds a place in her home where he can be himself, away from his parents' impatience and frustration. Often in his own little world, six-year-old Danny finds it difficult to communicate, finding solace in his best friend and confidant George - his rabbit. Cathy quickly becomes aware of his obsessively meticulous behaviour in addition to his love of patterns - he sees them everywhere and creates them at any opportunity - in his play and also with his food. She realises that patience is the key to looking after Danny as well as her well-tried strategies for managing children's behaviour. With his father refusing to cooperate, it becomes increasingly likely that Danny will be living with Cathy permanently until she gets an opportunity to speak her piece. ungekürzt. Language: English. The ways of the Zen mindset and its nature will come naturally to some, but for those such as myself, these skills can be learned without being born into it. Here is why I say this: The philosophy behind this book is not to learn the cello skill, but to adapt to the healthy lifestyle that allows you to perform with ease and expression. Those with "natural talent" are actually demonstrating this lifestyle naturally, mostly based on environmental factors.Masterful control is at the fingertips of all who come to accept the principles of a Zen lifestyle. The cello was designed to be performed with ease and comfort. Your experience while performing was meant to be completely free from struggle. Tension, stress, and impatience has no place in the mind of masterful cellists. While emotion is still present, its manifestation within the performance is under constant guidance. This ability to self-regulate the many facets of your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual selves is what allows you to gain access to masterful cello performance. As you can guess, the ability to grow in these fields will also lead you to success in many other areas outside of cello performance. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Justin Mackey.
