The Body Economic: Why Austerity Kills , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 401min
Politicians have talked endlessly about the seismic economic and social impacts of the recent financial crisis, but many continue to ignore its disastrous effects on human health - and have even exacerbated them, by adopting harsh austerity measures and cutting key social programs at a time when constituents need them most. The result, as pioneering public health experts David Stuckler and Sanjay Basu reveal in this provocative audiobook, is that many countries have turned their recessions into veritable epidemics, ruining or extinguishing thousands of lives in a misguided attempt to balance budgets and shore up financial markets. Yet, sound alternative policies could instead help improve economies and protect public health at the same time. In The Body Economic, Stuckler and Basu mine data from around the globe and throughout history to show how government policy becomes a matter of life and death during financial crises. In a series of historical case studies stretching from 1930s America, to Russia and Indonesia in the 1990s, to present-day Greece, Britain, Spain, and the U.S., Stuckler and Basu reveal that governmental mismanagement of financial strife has resulted in a grim array of human tragedies, from suicides to HIV infections. Yet, people can and do stay healthy, and even get healthier, during downturns. During the Great Depression, U.S. deaths actually plummeted, and today Iceland, Norway, and Japan are happier and healthier than ever, proof that public wellbeing need not be sacrificed for fiscal health. Full of shocking and counterintuitive revelations and bold policy recommendations, The Body Economic offers an alternative to austerity - one that will prevent widespread suffering, both now and in the future. ungekürzt. Failed: What the "Experts" Got Wrong About the Global Economy , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 439min
Why has the Eurozone ended up with an unemployment rate more than twice that of the United States more than six years after the collapse of Lehman Brothers? Why did the vast majority of low- and middle-income countries suffer a prolonged economic slowdown in the last two decades of the 20th century? What was the role of the International Monetary Fund in these economic failures? Why was Latin America able to achieve substantial poverty reduction in the 21st century after more than two decades without any progress? Failed analyzes these questions, explaining why these important economic developments of recent years have been widely misunderstood and in some cases almost completely ignored. First, in the Eurozone, Mark Weisbrot argues, the European authorities' political agenda, which included shrinking the welfare state; reducing health care, pension, and other social spending; and reducing the bargaining power of labor played a very important role in prolonging the Eurozone's financial crisis and pushing it into years of recession and mass unemployment. This conclusion is based not only on public statements of European officials but also on thousands of pages of documentation from consultations between the IMF and European governments after 2008. The second central theme of Failed is that there are always practical alternatives to prolonged economic failure. Drawing on the history of other financial crises, recessions, and recoveries, Weisbrot argues that regardless of initial conditions, there have been and remain economically feasible choices for governments of the Eurozone to greatly reduce unemployment - including the hardest hit, crisis-ridden country of Greece. The long-term economic failure of developing countries, its social consequences, and the subsequent recovery in the first decade of the 21st century constitute the third part of the book's narrative, one that has previously gotten too little attention. We see why the In ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: A. T. Chandler. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/adbl/026700/bk_adbl_026700_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.- Shop: Audible

House of Debt: How They (and You) Caused the Great Recession, and How We Can Prevent It From Happening Again , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 402min
The Great American Recession resulted in the loss of eight million jobs between 2007 and 2009. More than four million homes were lost to foreclosures. Is it a coincidence that the United States witnessed a dramatic rise in household debt in the years before the recession - that the total amount of debt for American households doubled between 2000 and 2007 to $14 trillion? Definitely not. Armed with clear and powerful evidence, Atif Mian and Amir Sufi reveal in House of Debt how the Great Recession and Great Depression, as well as the current economic malaise in Europe, were caused by a large run-up in household debt followed by a significantly large drop in household spending. Though the banking crisis captured the public's attention, Mian and Sufi argue strongly with actual data that current policy is too heavily biased toward protecting banks and creditors. Increasing the flow of credit, they show, is disastrously counterproductive when the fundamental problem is too much debt. As their research shows, excessive household debt leads to foreclosures, causing individuals to spend less and save more. Less spending means less demand for goods, followed by declines in production and huge job losses. How do we end such a cycle? With a direct attack on debt, say Mian and Sufi. More aggressive debt forgiveness after the crash helps, but as they illustrate, we can be rid of painful bubble-and-bust episodes only if the financial system moves away from its reliance on inflexible debt contracts. As an example, they propose new mortgage contracts that are built on the principle of risk-sharing, a concept that would have prevented the housing bubble from emerging in the first place. Thoroughly grounded in compelling economic evidence, House of Debt offers convincing answers to some of the most important questions facing the modern economy today: Why do severe recessions happen? ungekürzt. Product Management Secrets: Techniques for Product Managers to Boost Product Sales and Increase Customer Satisfaction , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 44min
The job of a product manager is made even more difficult by the simple fact that it really does not come with any clear instructions on how to do it correctly. As product managers we are constantly searching for ways to become better. One of the things that every product manager quickly realizes is that their career success is very closely tied to the financial success of their product. It is the job of the product manager to make sure that his or her product is meeting the needs of their customer. One of the most challenging aspects of creating a product that meets a customer's needs is to decide on what the right price to charge is. The goal is to charge as much as you can without exceeding what your customer's perception of the value of your product is. There are a lot of wrong ways to do this and just a few correct ways. One of the most important things that a product manager can do is to learn from the actions of other product managers. Not all product management programs succeed. We need to teach ourselves to keep our eyes open and watch and learn from both the successes and failures of other product managers. As though being a product manager was not hard enough, we also don't control the world in which we live. This means that we need to create plans to deal with events like product name changes, recessions, and irrational customers. This book has been written to provide you with the insights that you are going to need in order to develop your product management skills. We'll be talking about what you need to take into consideration when you are creating a price for your product, how to start your year off on the right foot, and how to create a vision for your product. ungekürzt.
