'Dear Constant Listener, What a rare treat it was to be in one Place- watching the changing of 3 Seasons fly by and allowing thoughts to seed, germinate, and grow to fruition. This album was recorded "Live'" (with the exception of vocal and horn section overdubs) at a friend's house near Cologne, Germany over a day and a 1/2, a house filled with friends, chickens, babies, home cooking and lively conversations about Music, Food, Buster Keaton, VanGogh, & the benefits of method acting for musicians. This is hands-down the most living, organic project that i've been involved in and it wouldn't have been possible without the exceptional talents of Markus, Marius, Martin, Tommy, and especially Dania. I hope you have as much fun listening to these lil' kittens as I had making music with them! Regarding the songs: Mosts are written in letter form to people (real and fictional, present and past) and to places experienced. And theflower titles? Without sounding too hippy- compare people like flowers, each with a unique nature of tempermant, survival, and growth. It seemed fitting to have a Spring theme to it. There's a lot joyfulnoise on this one too. I love the free sound of Traditional Jazz and wanted to echo that in the horn arrangements with Tubas, trombones, clarinets, saxes, accordian and violin thrown in for a "home' feeling. These qualities prompted the composer towrite a number of original works and to rewrite existing works includingthe clarinet as an equal partner within the ensemble, taking the role ofleading melodic instrument (hitherto given to the flute or the violin).? This is the first recording of these works featuring the clarinet!? Luigi Magistrelli is one of the leading and most enterprising Italianclarinettists, delving up unknown music for his instrument. Requiem
Glossa reinstates into the catalogue a recording which typifies the label's endeavours as well as being a memorable reflection of the artistry of the Orchestra of the 18th Century and of its conductor Frans Brüggen. An extended and beautiful introduction to the principal work is created by performances of the Maurerische Trauermusik and the Adagio for two clarinets and three basset horns, before Brüggen directs a startling and impressive reading of the Requiem - which includes the Introit, Tract and the Offertory sung in plainchant - which has become one of the reference versions of this work. The Metropolitan Space of Tokyo surely experienced an occasion of true magic back in March 1998 which was perfectly captured by the NHK Television microphones and which now can be enjoyed once more.- Shop: odax
