Floyd Harbor: Stories , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 345min

“Floyd Harbor brings to mind Denis Johnson and Irvine Welsh, though it’s also as moving and ecstatic as the early songs of Bruce Springsteen.” (Zachary Lazar, author of Vengeance)"Mowdy’s gritty debut collection of linked stories is set in a rundown community on eastern Long Island, with characters struggling to overcome poverty and trauma." (New York Times Book Review, New & Noteworthy)Set largely in the 1990s, the 12 linked stories in Joel Mowdy’s first book take place in and around Mastic Beach, a community on New York’s Long Island that’s close to the wealthy Hamptons but afflicted by widespread poverty. Mostly in their teens and early 20s, the characters struggle to become independent in various ways, ranging from taking typical low-paying jobs - hotel laundry, janitorial, restaurant, and landscaping work - to highly ingenious schemes, to exchanging sexual favors for a place to stay. A few make it to local community colleges; others end up in rehab or juvenile detention centers. However loving, their parents can offer little help. Those who are Vietnam veterans may suffer from PTSD; others may bear the addictions that often come with stressful lives.Neighborhoods of small bungalows - formerly vacation homes - with dilapidated boats in the driveways hint at the waterways that open up close by. The beauty of the ocean beach offer further consolation, as does the often high-spirited temperament of youth. Joel Mowdy brings to his affecting collection both personal experience and a gift for discerning and lingering on the essential moments in his characters’ stories. He intimately and vividly illuminates American lives that too seldom see the light. ungekürzt. Language: English. Celebrity Robberies: Top 12 Celebrity Robberies and Break-ins Robbing the Rich , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 50min

Robberies are never fun events - at least for victims! One of the most emotionally draining incidents that can happen to you is to come home and realize that an intruder has not only broken into your house, but has also stolen some or all of your most prized possessions. Despite the fact that many celebrities spend lots of money on home security systems, they have never been able to keep thieves out of their homes. One reason could be the fact that they are celebrities, which means that they are constantly followed day in and day out by paparazzi who take pictures of them wearing expensive clothing, driving choice cars and dazzling jewelry and fashion accessories that are worth millions of dollars. So there are some members of the public who feel drawn to their lifestyles and are tempted to steal from them. And even though they can afford expensive home security systems, they still have to contend with added traffic to their neighborhood which makes them susceptible to robberies and break-ins. But celebrity break-ins do not just happen randomly. They are usually well-planned and the burglars always choose their targets carefully based on worth and ease of access to their homes. They may be able to estimate the worth of their potential victims from what they see in magazines: the wristwatches, the designer clothing, and the Bentleys, the Porsches or the Maseratis that line the driveways provide an indication of how wealthy celebrities really are, as well tip off the criminals as to which homes they should rob. In this list, all the celebrities are victims of home burglaries with property theft between $5000 and $2 million. Many of the celebrities have either told the police or the courts that they are not really worried about the monetary value of the stolen items, but what they are worried about is the effect of the robberies on their peace of mind. ungekürzt. Inspiring Gardening: Trends to Dazzle Your Front Yard, Back Yard, and Patio , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 101min

Both front yard and back yard designs, as well as patio gardening, differ because the front of the house allows for a first impression, not only for the received visitor but also for home-owner who is welcomed home. As well as shaping the first impressions for visitors, front yard design needs to offer accessibility. It must be remembered that home owners spend less time in the front yard and front patio, so the course and garden designs are generally focused around pathways or driveways. Creating front yard gardening appeal is also great for added property value, and the more simple and inspiring it is, the more money and time can be spend on the back yard design, where everyone looks to for their own private gardening and kitchen gardens. Front yard landscaping in the US is a new concept and has come about as a greater need for security because more homes are set back on the land and are surrounded by secure garden walls. This was once the territory of the rich and famous but is becoming a trend for many more US home owners. Taking the time to landscape the front yard, whether for curbside appeal, added value, or simply because of an inspired vision, does take imagination. With the correct focus and plans, the establishment of a front yard landscape design makes it simple for the owner to become involved. Not all home owners want their yard to look just superb, many are inspired to become involved in the creative process, and, if not that, then at least in the refreshment and care processes. Gardening is good for the soul; this is why a professional consultation and the establishment of an initial front yard design should be geared to generate ideas and stimulate creativity in the owner. It is your garden, so there is no such thing as "hands-off". It is in the eye of the creator that great landscaping lies; so, although there are guidelines to be followed, these are not hard and fast rules cast in stone.
