KHA / Kerry Hill Architects
The definitive monograph of the late Singapore-based Australian architect's practice, internationally admired for its 'tropical modern' design and luxury resorts.KHA / Kerry Hill Architects: Works and Projects celebrates the buildings, resorts and spaces designed by the internationally renowned practice founded by the late Kerry Hill in Singapore in 1979.KHA has grown through the decades from a small studio in Singapore, known for redefining boutique hotels and resorts in Asia, to an architectural practice that embraces a distinguished global portfolio of public buildings and private residences, while continuing to pioneer innovation in resorts and hotels throughout the world. This comprehensive illustrated monograph captures KHA's commitment to achieving authenticity and exactitude in its work. The buildings presented are highly sensitive to their settings, their relationship to the landscape and their cultural contexts. These values of place are also celebrated in their interior spaces, which are enriched by contemporary crafting and highly considered details. KHA / Kerry Hill Architects: Works and Projects brings together a corpus of more than fifty completed works from 1992 to the present, with an emphasis on KHA's recent projects. These include the trio of newly completed and celebrated Aman hotels in Japan, Amanyangyun, near Shanghai, and the recently completed Walyalup Civic Centre in Fremantle, Western Australia. Added to this are a range of new commissions currently being developed by the practice's two studios, including two wineries - one in Western Australia and the other in Tasmania - and a remarkable design for a desert resort in Saudi Arabia.- Shop: buecher

Perth, Western Australia & the Outback , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 559min
The guide covers all the hotels, restaurants, sights to see and activities, from beachgoing to hiking, kayaking to exploring the Outback and the cultural attractions. Australia's largest state takes up nearly a third of the continent, filling some 2,525,250 square kilometers with a diverse mix of extreme and wonderful landscapes. The balmy seaside capital of Perth and its thriving southern suburb of Fremantle, where 1.4 of the state's 1.8 million residents live, are spread along Australia's southwest edge, just north of the Cape Naturaliste hook. South of here, lush river valleys and coastal parks stretch east for more than 1,620 km, while north of Perth, along the rough edge of the Indian Ocean, towns are far and few, with vast natural parklands coloring in the empty spaces between them. The country's westernmost town, Coral Bay, lies halfway up the coast, from where the land cuts back east and north toward Port Hedland and Broome. And still the state sprawls on, further northeast through the great, dry plains of the Kimberley, and south through endless expanses of gold and red desert. Within these great, barren stretches and along the coastlines, however, are hidden treasures that for the past century have fueled much of Australia's economy. The famous goldfields, where fortune-seekers thronged in the late 1800s, surround the southern Outback city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Mineral sands and deposits of bauxite, the source for the country's massive aluminum industry, are tucked along the state's southwest edge. Around the Kimberley, or the far northwest, natural gas is the abundant resource, tapped in enormous quantities from the Northwest Shelf. The Pilbara, along the north-central coast, has the world's most extensive iron-ore deposits. And this is all not to mention the world-famous pearls found offshore of Broome. ungekürzt. The Totorore Voyage , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 968min
I love the sea; I love the birds; I love adventure. In what better way could I indulge myself, in these later years of my life, than to undertake an expedition in the great Southern Ocean? In 1983, at the age of 56, Gerry Clark set out from New Zealand in his 10-meter homemade wooden yacht to circumnavigate Antarctica in a quest for new information about seabirds. In this graphic account of the ensuing three-year-eight-month voyage, he describes his adventures in some of the remotest, wildest, and most spectacularly beautiful parts of the world. Below the clouds which hid the mountain peaks, the icefields above the glacier shone with a weird, mauvish light. There are many strange icebergs: a cathedral, a fine gothic arch, and a huge and voluptuous female torso. Gerry and his crew members visited Robinson Crusoe Island, little known islands in the Chilean Archipelago, and the infamous Cape Horn, where they camped on the very peak to make important bird discoveries. They spent many months sailing around the Falklands and South Georgia, and narrowly escaped being trapped by pack ice on a trip to the Antarctic Peninsula. Sailing from South Georgia to Punta Arenas, Totorore was dismasted; and again between Cape Town and Marion Island. On this occasion, Gerry had to cut the mast and rigging adrift. He continued alone under jury-rig, and Totorore rolled five times in two of the most terrifying storms yet encountered. With the engine out of action and the jury-mast gone, the voyage became a desperate struggle for survival ending with Totorore limping into Fremantle two-and-a-half months later. In this remarkable adventure story of resilience and resourcefulness in the face of perils and disappointments, we share the author's determination to survive and his exhilaration at each new discovery. It's an enthralling story for anyone interested in the sea and the birdlife of the Southern Oceans. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Charles Pierard. Die Australien-Töchter - Wo die Hoffnung dich findet / Swan River Saga Bd.1 (eBook, ePUB)
Ein Aufbruch voller Hoffnung England im 19. Jahrhundert. (Kristall86, Lesejury)- Shop: buecher
