The Falcon, Vol. 1: The Classic Radio Collection, Hörbuch, Digital, 339min
The Falcon radio series aired from 1943 until 1954. "The Falcon" was an alternate identity for detective Michael Waring. Like the Falcon movies, the radio plots mixed danger, romance, and comedy in equal parts. Each show began with a telephone ringing and Michael Waring, the Falcon, answering the phone. Speaking with a woman whose voice was never heard, Waring would explain that he had an urgent situation he had to deal with. This led into the standard opening, followed by the week's tale of adventure. Often, incompetent police were unable to solve the mysteries without his help. Waring was billed on radio as a freelance detective who was "always ready with a hand for oppressed men and an eye for repressed women". Berry Kroeger, James Meighan, Les Tremayne, Les Damon, and George Petrie portrayed the Falcon during its radio run. The 12 episodes included here, which aired in 1950 and 1951, are" "The Case of the Carved Ham", "The Case of the Gangster's Girl", "The Case of the Mighty Muscle", "The Case of the Invisible Thug", "The Case of the Raw Deal", "The Case of the Harried Husband", "The Case of the Stooge's Errand", "The Case of the Puzzling Pinup", "The Case of the Widow's Gorilla", "The Case of the Rich Racketeer", "The Case of the Double Exposure", and "The Case of the Disappearing Doll". Dying, Waiting, Hoping: Donald Trump - Necromancer Book 5 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 126min
This is a work of humorous fantasy as well as political parody. Any persons who actually exist are public figures and depictions here are exaggerated and used for purposes of satire and political commentary as protected by law and the first amendment of the US constitution. This is the final installment of Donald Trump: Necromancer, where our heroes have their final confrontation with the necromancer in chief. They pulled up to the gates, and harried-looking security eyed them in obvious relief. A long line of cars was frantically honking, trying to rush through the exit. "You're here for the rats? You don't look like the guys who do the monthly sprays," the guard said skeptically. "No we're domestic terrorists who stole a bug van on the off chance you might have a rat emergency at just the time we drove up" Phil said deadpan. "What the f--k do we look like we're here for?" "No need to be assholes about it," the guard said and waved them through. As they drove past at a speed calculated to show urgency without looking like they were nervously trying to get away, Magnus clapped the folksinger on the shoulder. "Was that some Obi Wan shit or just the most creative use of truth telling I've ever seen?" ungekürzt. Language: English. Those Who Went Remain There Still , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 280min
Heaster Wharton is dead, and his passing might mean an end to hostilities between the Manders and the Coys. If the the elderly patriarch showed the kindness and foresight to split his land cleanly between his feuding descendants, then a truce could be arranged. But his final request is a strange one, delivered across the country to the straggling remnants of his tribe. Representatives from both families must visit a cave at the edge of his property in the hills of Kentucky. There, he promised, they would find his last will and testament. But there's more than paperwork waiting underground, as vindictive old Heaster was well aware. In 1775, Daniel Boone and a band of axe-wielding frontiersmen struggled to clear a path through the Cumberland Gap into the heart of Bluegrass country, and they did not work unopposed. Hounded and harried by an astonishing monster, the axe-men overcame the beast by sheer numbers and steel. They threw its body into a nearby cave.It was not dead. And now, it is not alone. Crippled and outraged, for 100 years something terrible has huddled underground, dreaming of meat and revenge. But its newest callers are heavily armed, skeptical of their instructions, and predisposed to violence. With their guns and their savage instincts, Heaster's grandchildren will not make for easy pickings. ungekürzt. Jack Benny: Drawing a Blanc, Hörbuch, Digital, 354min
Train leaving on track five for Anaheim, Azusa, and Cuc-amonga! A woebegone old car, a harried department store clerk, a monosyllabic man in a sombrero, and a train announcer whose line ran somewhere between Orange County and the Twilight Zone are all memorable characters from The Jack Benny Program, and all the products of a single talented throat: Mel Blanc. "The Man of a Thousand Voices" was Carmichael the Polar Bear, who lived improbably in Jack's cellar. King of Scotland: Modern Plays , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 52min
King of Scotland is an award-winning, dark comedy and a free adaptation of Gogol's A Diary of a Madman.Long-term unemployed Tommy McMillan joins a government-funded retraining scheme, "Up the Ladder". Cited as a shining example of the government's employment policies and chosen for a media profile, Tommy is taken on by the Department of Upward Mobility. The department gets more than they bargained for, however, when they discover just how far up the ladder Tommy is expecting to go.Featuring trouserless bankers, talking dogs, flying taxis, and a razor-sharp parody of the workings of politics, King of Scotland is an outrageous Fringe First-winning monologue. This volume also contains the biting satire The Tobacco Merchant's Lawyer. Set in 1780, Glasgow is booming, but the American war is looming, and the city's wealth is dependent on the import and export of American tobacco. Cantankerous and impoverished, Enoch Dalmellington is more harried by problems: how to marry off his dreich, pious, humorless daughter, Euphemia; being able to afford his pew at the Tron Kirk; and what to do about Mistress Zapata's scurrilous predictions about Glasgow in the 21st century. About the author: Award-winning playwright Iain Heggie is one of Scotland's leading playwrights. His plays include the Mobil prize-winning play A Wholly Healthy Glasgow (1988) and John Whiting Award-winning play American Bagpipes (1989). His other plays include An Experienced Woman Gives Advice, Don Juan, Love Freaks, and Wiping My Mother's Arse. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Liam Brennan. After Class (eBook, ePUB)
Sit your butt down and learn your three Rs: ranting, resisting, and respect. In two new plays, Canada's king of black comedy takes on the failing education system. Both Parents Night and The Bigger Issue are set in public-school classrooms after hours and involve confrontations between stressed-out teachers and ticked-off parents. Both sympathize with embattled educators and evince Walker's trademark understanding of poverty and the working classes. In both, Walker's signature moves work: the audience feels simultaneously complicit in and righteously angry about injustice and inequity. Parents Night finds grade-three teacher Nicole caught in the crossfire between John, an arrogant executive dad, and Rosie, a ballsy, low-income mom. Both are meeting with Nicole to express concerns for their children, but class warfare quickly erupts, and the kids' behaviour turns out to be a reflection of their parents' messed-up lives. A harried Nicole is dealing with troubles of her own, but she makes a brave attempt to discipline these overgrown brats. The Bigger Issue covers the same ground but digs deeper. Suzy, a novice middle-school teacher, has been called onto the carpet by the principal, Irene, for physically accosting a violent student. But when the boy's parents show up, it becomes clear that Jack and Maggie are a middle-class couple reduced to abject poverty; the real problem isn't their son or the school but a dysfunctional society. Together, Parents Night and The Bigger Issue comprise the first instalments in a projected play cycle similar to Walker's famous Suburban Motel. With an introduction by Toronto director Wesley Berger.- Shop: buecher

No One Could Have Guessed the Weather , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 425min
Sometimes what you want in your 20s isn’t what you want or need in your 40s.... When Lucy Lovett’s husband loses his job, she is forced to give up her posh life in London and move their family to a tiny apartment in Manhattan, where her husband has managed to secure a lowly position. Lucy finds herself living in the center of cool and hip. Across from their apartment is a trendy bar called PDT - whenever Lucy passes by, she thinks, "Please Don’t Tell anyone I’m a middle-aged woman." Homesick and resentful at first, Lucy soon embarks on the love affair of her life - no, not with her husband (though they’re both immensely relieved to discover they do love each other for richer or poorer), but with New York City and the three women who befriend her. There’s Julia, who is basically branded with a Scarlet A when she leaves her husband and kids for a mini nervous breakdown and a room of her own; Christy, a much older man’s trophy wife, who is a bit adrift as only those who live high up in penthouses can be; and disheveled and harried Robyn, constantly compensating for her husband, who can’t seem to make the transition from wunderkind to adult. Spot-on observant, laugh-out-loud funny, yet laced with kindness through and through, No One Could Have Guessed the Weather is a story of what happens when you grow up and realize the middle part of your story might just be your beginning. ungekürzt.
