Money Anxiety is a behavioral economics book exploring how financial anxiety impacts consumer behavior. The book explains why we make instinctive financial decisions, why we are more risk averse when stressed, and why we hate to lose more than we love to win. This book references scientific research and empirical analysis conducted by Daniel Kahneman, PhD, Nobel Prize recipient in economics, on thinking fast and slow; Dan Ariely, PhD, on irrational behavior; Deepak Chopra, MD, and Rudolph E. Tanzi, PhD, on the three major components of the human brain; and Nassim Nicholas Taleb, PhD, on the impact of the highly improbable. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Robert Austin. Mark Twain's witty, satirical tale of childhood rebellion against hypocritical adult authority, the Penguin Classics edition of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is edited with a critical introduction by Peter Coveney. Mark Twain's story of a boy's journey down the Mississippi on a raft conveyed the voice and experience of the American frontier as no other work had done before. When Huck escapes from his drunken, abusive 'Pap' and the 'sivilizing' Widow Douglas with runaway slave Jim, he embarks on a series of adventures that draw him to feuding families and the trickery of the unscrupulous 'Duke' and 'Dauphin'. Beneath the exploits, however, are more serious undercurrents - of slavery, adult control and, above all, of Huck's struggle between his instinctive goodness and the corrupt values of society which threaten his deep and enduring friendship with Jim.

Returning to the Age of Reason is a powerful philosophical work which is ambitious in its scope. Written by a biomedical engineer, the collected essays which comprise it explore a vast array of topics, ranging from metaphysics, to politics, to science, to religion - with many stops in between. The work is essentially a polemic against atheism in general for the corrosive effect it is having upon the various underlying principles which Western civilization was founded upon. The author appeals to those who have not abandoned their instinctive reason and love of justice to fight to defend this most noble culture from potential collapse. ungekürzt. Language: English. Thomas Hardy brings us an England that once existed but no more. It is rural, traditional, pastoral - a society of mannered conduct that flows like a deep river where powerful currents eddy and swirl. In this powerful novel of love and disillusion, Hardy's heroine is torn between the three men in her life. Passionate but capricious, her romantic involvements have fascinated generations of readers. It was as a poet that Hardy wished to be remembered, but today critics regard his novels as an even more memorable contribution to English literature for their psychological insight, their instinctive delineation of English character, and their profound presentation of great tragedy. ungekürzt. Concentration and meditation by Swami Paramananda, author of "Soul's secret door", "the Way of peace and blessedness", ''Reincarnation and immortality". In this audiobook: concentration, meditation, aids to meditation, practical hints: fixity of purpose, Practice of Concentration, Methods of Meditation. Paramananda (1884–1940) was a swami and one of the early Indian teachers who went to the United States to spread the Vedanta philosophy and religion there. He was a mystic, a poet and an innovator in spiritual community living. Paramananda was sent to America in 1906 at the age of twenty-two to assist at the previously established New York Vedanta Society. He lived and taught there until 1909, when Paramananda established the Vedanta Centre of Boston. He lectured throughout the United States, Europe and Asia for thirty-four years, until his death in 1940. He founded four centres still thriving today, two in the United States and two in Calcutta, India. The American ashramas are in Cohasset, Massachusetts and La Crescenta, California. Like his teacher, Vivekananda, Paramananda believed in equality between men and women. About the audiobook: we all possess the faculty of concentration, but with the majority, it is instinctive and automatic, not conscious. Even among the animals, we see how a lion or tiger will gather his strength by a moment of absolute stillness before he springs upon his prey; that automatic, instinctive power of concentration is embedded in every living creature. But until we can gain conscious command over our mental and spiritual forces, we can never have complete concentration. When the scattered mind is gathered together it is like a bright searchlight, and by it man is able to investigate the latent powers which he possesses but of which he is not now wholly aware. As he grows more conscious of these hidden forces and learns to use them, he becomes more Language: English. Narrator: Paul Spera.
