The Ex-Con Factor: You Did Your Time, Now What? Journey from D.O.C. to C.E.O. , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 78min
The Ex-Con Factor: You Did Your Time, Now What? Journey from D.O.C. to C.E.O. is a common sense map about the transition and mind-sets of ex-offenders. Deals with choices made before and after doing time from juvenile detention, jail, prison, and work release to returning back to society. Details the author's experiences and observations living a fast-paced life that included dealing drugs, generations of domestic violence, her survival story, and mind-set shifts along the way. Coming to the end of a sentence and not knowing how to survive and be successful on the other side of the gates brings ex-offenders back through the doors of recidivism with no end in sight. Difficulty finding jobs makes it easy if not necessary for ex-offenders to go back to what they know, which is illegal activity.Threatened with probation or parole violations, some people don't see any other way out. This book stresses that yes, there s an ex-con factor, but there are no excuses. Reentry to society without a real plan can prove to be detrimental to someone's freedom. This book proves it is possible to define and or redefine your own success and remain a free, productive, and successful member of society. Prison doesn't rehabilitate you. You rehabilitate you. The choices you make can either be constructive or destructive - anything else is an excuse. The author understands the judgment and difficulties associated with the stigma of being an ex-felon. However, where there's a will there's a way for jobs, housing, entrepreneurship, marriage, finances, home ownership, excellent credit, and more...even for an ex-felon. ungekürzt. Language: English. Entry Lessons (eBook, ePUB)
Through oral histories, interviews, embedded observation, and research, the daily struggles of women returning to life after incarceration and concrete solutions to the seemingly hopeless issue. At the end of 2019 in the United States, women comprised the fastest growing population within the criminal justice system. Despite this fact, their journey through this system has not received extensive attention; it is only beginning to be documented. As a result, the impact of women's incarceration and reentry-both on their own lives and in the lives of their children and their families-is neither well understood nor effectively confronted. Sociologist Jorja Leap argues that all aspects of these women's journey must be illuminated to fully grasp the issues. Leap explores first the traumas girls and women suffer, then the particular challenges faced by women in the criminal justice system, in incarceration, and throughout the reentry process. Leap tells the stories of women who suffer childhood abuse and neglect, including for example, Clara, who suffered twice-once as a child within the welfare system and then as a mother whose children were removed from her care and placed within the system-highlighting the ways the system fails women in particular. She finds that the lack of reentry programs is directly related to rates of recidivism, concluding that the cycle of trauma is the embedded in the system of reentry. Having spent countless hours embedded in the reentry programs that do currently exist, including Susan Burton's A New Way of Life, Leap tells the dramatic stories of many women caught in the system, She closes with several future-facing chapters. The experiences of formerly incarcerated women must be translated into lasting structural change through the development of meaningful programs and policies. Leap delves into pilot programs that offer meaningful models for changing the cycles of abuse and trauma in the lives of women.- Shop: buecher

Lost Memory of Skin , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 822min
The acclaimed author of The Sweet Hereafter and Rule of the Bone returns with a provocative new novel that illuminates the shadowed edges of contemporary American culture with startling and unforgettable results. Suspended in a strangely modern-day version of limbo, the young man at the center of Russell Banks’s uncompromising and morally complex new novel must create a life for himself in the wake of incarceration. Known in his new identity only as the Kid, and on probation after doing time for a liaison with an underage girl, he is shackled to a GPS monitoring device and forbidden to live within 2,500 feet of anywhere children might gather. With nowhere else to go, the Kid takes up residence under a south Florida causeway, in a makeshift encampment with other convicted sex offenders. Barely beyond childhood himself, the Kid, despite his crime, is in many ways an innocent, trapped by impulses and foolish choices he himself struggles to comprehend. Enter the Professor, a man who has built his own life on secrets and lies. A university sociologist of enormous size and intellect, he finds in the Kid the perfect subject for his research on homelessness and recidivism among convicted sex offenders. The two men forge a tentative partnership, the Kid remaining wary of the Professor’s motives even as he accepts the counsel and financial assistance of the older man. When the camp beneath the causeway is raided by the police, and later, when a hurricane all but destroys the settlement, the Professor tries to help the Kid in practical matters while trying to teach his young charge new ways of looking at, and understanding, what he has done. But when the Professor’s past resurfaces and threatens to destroy his carefully constructed world, the balance in the two men’s relationship shifts. Suddenly, the Kid must reconsider everything he has come to believe, and choose what course of action to take when faced with a new kind of mor ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Shepherd.
