Until recent years, very little was known of the tens of thousands of foreign nationals from Norway, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, France, and Spain who served voluntarily in the military formations of the German army and the German Waffen-SS. In Kaisergruber's book, the listener discovers important issues of collaboration, the apparent contributions of the volunteers to the German war effort, their varied experiences, their motives, the attitude of the German High Command and bureaucracy, and the reaction to these in the occupied countries.  The combat experiences of the Walloons echoed those of the very best volunteer units of the Waffen-SS, although they shared equally in the collapse of the Third Reich in May 1945. Although unapologetic for his service, Kaisergruber makes no special claims for the German cause and writes not from any postwar apologia and dogma but instead from his firsthand observations as a young man experiencing war for the first time, extending far beyond what had been imaginable at the time. His observations of fellow soldiers, commanders, Russian civilians, and the battlefields prove poignant and telling. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Paul Woodson. Seraphina locked her eyes with Magnus as the sheriff grabbed him by his arm and cuffed his wrists together. When he began to fight against the man, he clasped his hand around Magnus’ throat, and Seraphina bowed her head at Magnus...inviting him in. “I can take care of this situation Magnus, you know I can.” She pleaded with him. “I know Sera, but they’ll kill you.” “These humans can not kill me,” she yelled at him. Even then the power she evoked was heard within her words. “I’m not talking about the human.” He warned her. “The Council needs to be taught a new lesson. Brother, let’s take this moment to change our world.”He just looked at her; the sheriff shook him by the throat as he yelled at the onlookers who had gathered around them all. “Please brother. I can’t let them kill you!” Her voice echoed inside his mind. He considered her words and closed his eyes in agreement. She had asked his permission to take on the world, and he had given it to her. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Lili Dubuque. The world is a stage, life is a play, and we are the puppets. It's better not to ask who pulls the strings. How lucky do you feel? That question echoed through the world's underground, scrawled on bathroom walls, spray-painted across subway tunnel exits, written on paper that fluttered through bleak side-streets in the winter wind, printed on cheap business cards tacked to corkboard displays in darkened hallways. But always beneath one name - Limbus. Matthew Sellers revealed the truth of Limbus, Inc. to the world, and in his tales of time travelers, intergalactic beings, and human sacrifice, he thought he had told it all. But the story of the shadowy employment agency that operates on the edge of the abyss, always finding the perfect person for the perfect job - no matter what the cost - had only begun. This shared-world anthology continues the story of Limbus, Inc., as told by five masters of horror, fantasy, and science fiction. But beware, for once you learn the truth of Limbus, Inc., your world will never be the same. So it's time to ask yourself.... How lucky do you feel? ungekürzt. Language: English. Early in the morning of Monday, 8 July 1895, 13-year-old Robert Coombes and his 12-year-old brother, Nattie, set out from their small, yellow-brick terraced house in East London to watch a cricket match at Lord's. Their father had gone to sea the previous Friday, the boys told their neighbours, and their mother was visiting her family in Liverpool. Over the next 10 days, Robert and Nattie spent extravagantly, pawning their parents' valuables to fund trips to the theatre and the seaside. But as the sun beat down on the Coombes' house, a strange smell began to emanate from the building. When the police were finally called to investigate, the discovery they made sent the press into a frenzy of horror and alarm, and Robert and Nattie were swept up in a criminal trial that echoed the outrageous plots of the penny dreadful novels that Robert loved to read. In The Wicked Boy, Kate Summerscale has uncovered a fascinating true story of murder and morality. It is not just a meticulous examination of a shocking Victorian case but also a compelling account of its aftermath and of man's capacity to overcome the past. ungekürzt. Language: English. Part poetic masterpiece, part mystic treatise, The Dark Night of the Soul, by 16th century Carmelite monk St. John of the Cross, addresses the feeling of being forgotten by the Presence of the Almighty that every Christian desirous of walking more closely with God must pass through in order to learn to walk by faith and not by sight. Spiritual persons suffer great trials - by reason - of the fear which they have of being lost on the road, thinking that all spiritual blessing is over for them and that God has abandoned them since they find no help or pleasure in good things. Then they grow weary, and endeavor to concentrate their faculties with some degree of pleasure upon some object of meditation, thinking that, when they are not doing this and yet are conscious of making an effort, they are doing nothing. Perhaps one of the most widely recognized of the mystical writings, St. John's classic Dark Night of the Soul is not only practical theology but a beautiful balm of healing to anyone whose heart has ever echoed the words of Christ, "My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken me?" ungekürzt. In 2013, just two years after the popular overthrow of Hosni Mubarak, the Egyptian military ousted the country's first democratically elected president - Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood - and subsequently led a brutal repression of the Islamist group. These bloody events echoed an older political rift in Egypt and the Middle East: the splitting of nationalists and Islamists during the rule of Egyptian president and Arab nationalist leader Gamal Abdel Nasser. In Making the Arab World, Fawaz Gerges, one of the world's leading authorities on the Middle East, tells how the clash between pan-Arab nationalism and pan-Islamism has shaped the history of the region from the 1920s to the present. Gerges tells this story through an unprecedented dual biography of Nasser and another of the 20th-century Arab world's most influential figures - Sayyid Qutb, a leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood and the father of many branches of radical political Islam. Their deeply intertwined lives embody and dramatize the divide between Arabism and Islamism. Yet, as Gerges shows, beyond the ideological and existential rhetoric, this is a struggle over the state, its role, and its power. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: James Cameron Stewart. Warning - This story has hot and steamy sexual ménage content and is not suitable for all ages. "Yeah this definitely is your first time," she commented. "You look like a kid with a new toy." I stared up at her. "So am I doing something wrong?" She shook her head. "Nope." She leaned down and ran the tip of her tongue along my bottom lip. "Play with your toy," she whispered. For a moment, I looked up at her not sure if she were playing with me or serious. As tough as I was, I would burst into tears if she pulled away from me now before I had a chance to taste her. So I decided to take a chance. At least if she walked away, I'd have something that I could dream about. Lifting my head, I captured one nipple in my mouth. Her moan echoed off the walls of the steam room as I licked and sucked at her the way I liked someone to do for me. I switched to the other one and Roxie's head dropped back and she gasped for breath. I almost... ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Theresa Stephens. It was just a camping trip.   Down by the old Coheelee Creek Covered Bridge, four high school friends only wanted to kick back, smoke some weed, and forget about their problems for a day or two. Sure, there were stories that the area was haunted, but there was no way they were true.   It was just a local legend.   Decades earlier, an old goat farmer had been murdered by the Klan, hung from a tree near the bridge solely because of the color of his skin. His body was never found. Since then, numerous sightings of a strange creature - half-man and half-goat - had been reported in the surrounding woods. He was called the Goatman.   It was just the worst night of their lives. From the moment they arrived, strange noises echoed around them.... A sense they were being watched pervaded the campsite...and that was just the beginning. When one of them vanishes and a horned monstrosity pursues the others, it becomes clear that the legends are real...and the truth is so much more horrific than they could ever have imagined.  ungekürzt.
