In Glory, Kansas, a fairy-tale wedding has local tongues wagging. But through this false engagement, can a wounded warrior and the woman he's protecting find true love? Byron Hawkins doesn't want to be responsible for anyone ever again. The former Black Ops soldier is better at taking lives than saving them. But on a mission in Tunisia to deliver a package to safety, Byron is dismayed to find that the precious cargo is actually a hostage rescue, and that his orders are to take Damara Petrakis back to U.S. soil and hide her in plain sight - as his newlywed wife. Back in Byron's hometown of Glory, Kansas, petite, fierce Damara keeps surprising him; she may be royalty, but she's fully trained in martial arts and will sacrifice anything for her country. As the town rallies around the returning hero and his bride-to-be, he's finding that it's way too easy to play the part, and after the hell he has seen, that terrifies him. Byron didn't want another life to save, but the passionate beauty he's sworn to protect might just turn the tables and save him instead. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Susan Bennett. America is at more than just a crossroads. She is at the brink. A future of freedom and prosperity can still be had should Americans show the will to chart such a path. But simply continuing with business as usual has literally brought us to the edge of destruction. In Now or Never, Senator DeMint stresses that the current political moment of widespread concern about massive debt and reckless spending is our last chance to rescue America from economic armageddon. This audiobook is an invaluable tool which will enlighten voters to the current state of our union in order to help them make the best choices in the upcoming presidential election. Continuing the momentum of the Tea Parties and rallies that demanded a new breed of representatives in the 2010 elections, Senator DeMint reminds us of the importance of citizen activism, and its power to change Washington, in this critical moment in our nation's history. Senator DeMint is joined by Senators Tom Coburn, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, and Pat Toomey; Congressman Steve King; pollster Frank Lutz; former Congressman Dick Armey; and others who also make the case for political reform and renewal. ungekürzt. Step back in time and travel with Rochambeau as he rides through the night to the Palace of Versailles, answering a summons from King Louis XVI. Sit by his side as his carriage travels to meet with George Washington for their first face-to-face conference in Hartford, Connecticut. Enjoy the tension between the two generals as their strategy emerges. Stand beside Rochambeau as he proudly watches his handsome French troops depart from Newport, Rhode Island, to begin their 200-mile march to join forces with Washington's army above the Hudson. Stand near him in Chester, Pennsylvania, as he watches an overjoyed Washington twirl his hat in the air on hearing that the long-awaited French navy under Admiral De Grasse had arrived in the Chesapeake. Ride at his side in the sweltering sun during the grueling trek from New York to Williamsburg, Virginia. Listen in as he rallies his troops at the Battle of Yorktown. In June 1941, when Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa, Lyudmila Pavlichenko left her university studies and ignored the offer of a position as a nurse to become one of Soviet Russia's 2,000 female snipers. Less than a year later, she had 309 recorded kills, including 29 enemy sniper kills. She was withdrawn from active duty after being injured. She was also regarded as a key heroic figure for the war effort. She spoke at rallies in Canada and the US, and the folk singer Woody Guthrie wrote a song, "Killed By A Gun", about her exploits. Her US trip included a tour of the White House with FDR. In November 1942, she visited Coventry and accepted donations of £4,516 from Coventry workers to pay for three X-ray units for the Red Army. She also visited a Birmingham factory as part of her fundraising tour. She never returned to combat but trained other snipers. After the war, she finished her education at Kiev University and began a career as a historian. She died on October 10, 1974, at age 58, and was buried in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery. ungekürzt. Mad City: The True Story of the Campus Murders That America Forgot is a chilling, unflinching exploration of American crimes of the twentieth century and how one serial killer managed to slip through the cracks - until now. In fall 1967, friends Linda Tomaszewski and Christine Rothschild are freshmen at the University of Wisconsin. The students in the hippie college town of Madison are letting down their hair - and their guards. But amid the peace rallies lurks a killer. When Christine's body is found, her murder sends shockwaves across college campuses, and the Age of Aquarius gives way to a decade of terror. Linda knows the killer, but when police ignore her pleas, he slips away. For the next forty years, Linda embarks on a cross-country quest to find him. When she discovers a book written by the murderer's mother, she learns Christine was not his first victim - or his last. The slayings continue, and a single perpetrator emerges: the Capital City Killer. As police focus on this new lead, Linda receives a disturbing note from the madman himself. Can she stop him before he kills again? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jonathan Davis. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/brll/009462/bk_brll_009462_sample.mp3. From the Cold War to the Clinton years, Chris Matthews gives the straight-up account of what it means to be an American. Matthews tells us about his "God and country" Catholic school education in Philadelphia, complete with Cold War air-raid drills and his early enthusiasm for politics. He also shares with us his various adventures: two years in Africa with the Peace Corps, the challenge of running for Congress at a mere 28 years old, and lastly his three decades deep in the "belly of the beast" of American politics.Matthews has made his name as a razor-sharp journalist determined to expose the politicians who abuse their power. With Now, Let Me Tell You What I Really Think, Matthews rallies those who "work hard and play by the rules" and proves why he still heralds the wisdom he heard from a capitol policeman over 20 years ago: "The little man loves his country, because it's all he's got." A hard-to-categorize maverick with an uncool love for his country, Matthews offers an irreverent look at where we are, and how we got here. Language: English. Narrator: Chris Matthews. The swooning Victorian ladies and the 1950s housewives genuinely needed to be liberated. That much is indisputable. So, First-Wave feminists held rallies for women's suffrage. Second-Wave feminists marched for prohibition, jobs, and abortion. Today, Third-Wave feminists stand firmly for nobody's quite sure what. But modern women - who use psychotherapeutic antidepressants at a rate never before seen in history - need liberating now more than ever. The truth is, feminists don't know what liberation is. They have led us into a very boring dead end.Eve in Exile sets aside all stereotypes of mid-century housewives, of China-doll femininity, of Victorians fainting, of women not allowed to think for themselves or talk to the men about anything interesting or important. It dismisses the pencil-skirted and stiletto-heeled executives of TV, the outspoken feminists freed from all that hinders them, the brave career women in charge of their own destinies. Once those fictionalized stereotypes are out of the way - whether they're things that make you gag or things you think look pretty fun - Christians can focus on real women. What did God make real women for? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Rebekah Merkle. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/152688/bk_acx0_152688_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

What Caide and Rachael Abbott want you to believe: They are happily married college sweethearts, parents to two beautiful children, and they lead a perfect, quiet little life.  What you should believe: nothing. Nothing they tell you. Nothing you hear.  In fact, nothing in the Abbotts' picture-perfect world is what it seems. But when their small town of La Rue, North Carolina, is rocked by the brutal murder of a beloved member of the community, a manhunt begins, and neither Caide nor Rachael thought they would become prime suspects.  Every belief Caide and Rachael have about their lives is thrown out the window. With mounting evidence and lives on the line, the Abbotts are forced to uncover what mysteries are hiding behind closed doors.  When old wounds are torn open, secrets are revealed, and their sanity is put to the ultimate test, even memories can't be trusted in their quest to find the truth.
